  1. Good Question and I have no idea. Their website is www.fugawi.com, phone number is 416-920-9300 and are based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Give them a call and see what they have available.
  2. Checked this rod out at Gander Mountain yesterday and was not impressed. It seemed like it was not very well made, the cork was pitted and full of holes and the over look and feel did not impress me a bit. I had the chance to compare it to and St. Croix's Avid MHM and Legend MHM, and also a Kistler Magnesium that listed for $179. These three 7' rods all had quality workmanship, good guides and reel seats. The Avid and Legend felt identical, great looking and feeling rods rated for 3/8 to 5/8 oz. lures. The Kistler Mag claims to handle from 1/8 to 1 oz lures. It has a softer tip then the St. Croixs and being a fiberglass composite has a good butt section. Making a decision on which of these rods to pick is not going to be easy. I use mainly St. Croix rods and am leaning toward the Legend, but the Kistler Mag was very impressive and if it actually can handle that wide a range of baits then one rod would do what I use two for now.
  3. I was not a big fan of spinning reels due to the line twisting problems, weak drags, and some like the Quatum PT models are heavy. Two year ago I tried BPS Wide Spool Pro Qualifier 2000 and 4000 models and have been very satisfied with the over all performance of both reels. They cast beautifully, drags are smooth as silk, even the larger 4000 is light enough to use all day long. I just ordered another of the 2000's I use these for dropshotting, shakey head fishing, and 4000 for jerkbaits. I highly recommend them to anyone.
  4. What gets a bass's attention is the crankbait doing something different then just a cast and retrive. This could be bouncing off a rock or stump, ticking along the bottom, or a stop and go retrieive. My favorite is to reel the bait down and then sweep it with a sideways motion of the rod, stop and reel down and sweep again. Make the crankbait do something different during the retrieve and I think you will see more strikes.
  5. My favorite bait for the year hands down was the King Shad by Strike King, but I caught my most fish on a 1/2 oz Booyah Jig.
  6. You can transfer waypoints from your computer to your GPS unit using this DVD program.
  7. With all the different structures from shallow to deep on the St. Lawrence river I found I was leaving a lot of fish behind when fishing just the shallows as had been the norm for many years. Using maps and C-rigs got things started. Then with better depth sounders, GPS chips, and dropshotting it made the search and catching of deep water fish a lot easier.
  8. For those who are unaware of it. Pfluger makes several models for Gander Mountain's brand name and sells them for less money.
  9. You might look into buying the Naviontics Hotmaps DVD. It has the same maps on it that I use in my 3500C and LMS520C plus a whole lot more. Plus once it is in your computer it had a feature that splits the screen with Google Earth. Not the best in details, but I have used it for a year now and it works for me.
  10. I have a box full of used spinning reels I was not happy with including a Quantum PT that sounds like there is gravel in the bearings. Had the chance to use a BPS Pro Qualifier wide spool spinning reel and for the money was amazed at how smoothly it casts and retrieves. Used the 2000 and a 4000 all last two years with no problems what so ever. Ordered another 2000 for the coming year. The 2000s are used mainly with 10 lb test Fireline for dropshotting and wacky head fishing. the larger 4000 I have spooled 14 lb fireline and use it for a variety of light crankbiats, topwater, and jerkbaits. BPS has three models of this reel in three price ranges, mine are the mid priced ones.
  11. Tried linking to this site and even with changing words to all lower and could not find anything other then the site does not exist.
  12. Nothing that is mass produced is 100% devoid of defects. To be honest this is the first time I have even heard of the clip coming undone or the wire braid separating from the hook. All I know is I am throwing these a lot more then spinnerbaits and finding they catch good sized fish, both Smallmouths and Largemouths. Last year in Florida I did very well using these Boogiebaits and could not buy a hit on a spinnerbait. Thanks for the heads up and I will keep an eye on both things you mentioned.
  13. Too cool... If I had your choices, I wouldn't waste an hour hunting green fish! The exception to this rule is dropshotting. Just started fishing with it the past couple years using a St. Croix 6'9'' dropshot rod and have had a blast hooking up with big smallies with this light tackle. Also last year picked up a St. Croiz 6'8'' M XF and started wacky jigging with it. Lots of fun!
  14. Living on Lake Ontario I find drop-shotting a finese worm is my favorite in deep water. Nothing like hooking up with a 5 lb smallie on light line and tackle. In the shallow water flats I had a blast last year wacky jigging them with the same finesse worm I used drop shotting.
  15. My personal favorite Smallmouth crankbaits are a Bomber 4A in any of the crawfish patterns and a chrome black back Rattletrap when they are on the flats feeding.
  16. An Uncle Josh "Big Daddy" real pork frog gets my vote.
  17. I feel it is really unfair to a lure or company to claim they are junk without backing up your claim with proof. Please back up what you are saying with details. Would you please point out why you think the the Boogie bait is junk? IMO the Rad bait is of poor quality because.....the blades are thin and bend easily, the bait flips over when you try to burn it, the hooks will straighten when using braided line. The finish is mono color and cheaply applied, comes off with any contact with rocks, docks, or even a fish's mouth. The skirts and some of the designs of the Rad chatterbaits do not stay put, and there is no barbs to keep trailers attached. Now look at the Booyah Boogie baits.....the blades are of heavier metal and are interchangable, the bait runs perfect at any speed, the hooks are not only bigger and stronger but are welded to heavy wire braid and flex so a bass cannot throw the bait as easily, The paint job is detailed and tough with big glued on red eyes for extra attraction. The skirts come in more and better colors and are easily changed, plus there is a good barb on the head to hold trailers without needing glue. This is my opinion based on actually using these baits and seeing the difference. Have been fishing well over 40 years and in tournament competion for half of that. So I have some idea what to look for in a quality bait. Just for the record I am NOT sponcered by Booyah baits.
  18. I have tried them all and for me the one built with the best quailty and will track at any speed as well as come through weeds is the Booyah Boogie bait. Plus it also had the leverage hook system which helps stop a fish from throwing the hook. Since I started using the BoogieBait I have not thrown any of the Rad, Strike King, or any others.
  19. I went back to the 0 rings and use that same tool. Tried the shrink wrap and unless you do up a bunch ahead of time it is hard to get them done properly on the boat with the wind blowing. I melted several of the soft stick baits by accident and they either broke or were too weak in the area of the shrink wrap to work properly.
  20. You need to take a look at what conditions you are fishing. Rocks, timber, brush, weeds, etc. After that look for jigs that will work the best in those situations. A football head works best in deep water around rocky ledges. For shallow rip-rap and wood an arkie style head with help you from getting hung up. In weeds a pointed head jig with the line tie in the tip will come through the weeds better. The brands are simply personal choices and by all means support forum sponsors, just get the right jig to do the right job.
  21. My avitar is my 2008 personal best Smallmouth. Just a little over 6 lbs.
  22. I like In Fisherman, Bassmaster, and lately FLW magazines. They keep you somewhat up to date on what the pros are using and have some decent articles for novice and pro alike.
  23. Store the rods in thick plastic tubes like a Plano rod case and make sure you clean the cork handles with a little Dawn dish deteregent and let them dry before storing.
  24. Our prevailing winds are from the SSW and our waters run pretty much in the same direction. So when this wind gets going even a light 10 to 15 mph wind it has a lot of water moving. Boat control becomes a real chore. Using a good trolling motor and drift socks do help so you can make as good a presentation as possible. Once the winds get 20+ mph it is next to impossible to to work shorelines and points. Working in deper water and drifting over humps works better if you have a boat that will take the pounding. Other wise I head for a smaller lake or call it a day.
