  1. i just bought one....hope i made the right purchase.. i picked one up over the weekend to pair it with the BPS Crankin' Stick i got on sale. i got the 5.2 ratio. i paid $99 and was told they expect them to go on sale since they just got in a large shipment and if they do go on sale within 90 days i can take in the receipt and get the difference refunded. i based my purchase on all the good feedback i had read here and on BPS' site. i can't afford a high dollar reel so i thought this was a good reel for the $$... i hope so...
  2. thanks guys... based on your comments it sounds like a good rod for the price...i'm gonna pick one up this weekend....
  3. these are on sale on-line for $59....a good value? i'm thinking of picking one up (MH) for deep cranks. has anyone used these? i appreciate any feedback... thanks..
  4. imo... it's because of the lack of tension in your line as you reel in. i've had this happen in wind and also when using a top water walking bait. the lack of tension when reeling in with that type of topwater i think creates the problem. after using that type bait for a while, i'll get the birds nest when making a cast in the middle of the line.... try creating some tension with your fingers and i'll bet that will help.. it works for me..
  5. thanks for the feedback.. i've got a list now of what to add for the BR trip....... if anyone else has some ideas...please add...
  6. ok...thanks.. and good luck this weekend....great Foundation...they do excellent work..
  7. looking to put together an arsenal for smallies for the BR Pickwick Roadtrip. if you could suggest your top 5 or so baits (and colors) that would be awesome. i know the trip is a ways off.....but i plan on purchasing during the christmas sales. thanks....
  8. i have my spinning gear spooled with either... 8lb yo zuri ultra soft (use KVD) or 20 lb power pro braid depending on the application both work really well for me
  9. Well, I'm not sure I know the difference between "soaking in" and bonding, but you will find a very noticable difference in the line after using the line conditioner. X2
  10. please thank your son for his service for me..... no words can describe the gratitude i feel for him (and you and your family)
  11. i'm determined to make this one...it's under 8 hours. i am looking forward to meeting all of you for the first time. so many of you have been very helpful and it has made the quality of my fishing improve... i've never caight a smallie either and am very much looking forward to a few of those battles... can't wait....
  12. i like that frog. some/many will tell you to "step up" to a more expensive one. but i find this one works well. with any frog there will be some hook up issues. escpecailly when first starting out to frog fish. the "wait 2-3 seconds" works as well as "feeling the weight of the fish" hook set is a big key. as is what equipment you are using. IMO you need at least a med hvy rod and braid works best for me. once you land a few... you will be hooked on the frog.... it doesn't get much more exciting than that technique.. good luck..
  13. getting ready to head there next weekend to fish sat and sun. anybody fish there that might be able to give some help? good spots? baits? launching from the state ramp close to the lodge. thanks..
  14. yes. i may have to vary the speed to find what is working that day..... but usually on just a steady medium speed retrieve. the action of the bait is great by itself but with that scrounger head (the medium size bill works best for me) the swimming action is awesome.. i've also had luck using a 2/0 weighted swim bait hook tex-posed/skin hooked. i will use a steady retrieve but also do something like RW does with the sworming hornet too to see what may be working. you can bring it through alot of cover with this type hook as opposed to an exposed hook.
  15. 3.5" on a scrounger head is one of my "go-to" rigs....
  16. looks awesome!! Shellcracker is gonna = walletcracker
  17. i'd recommend the baby....with as little weight as possible...start with 1/8oz....it doesn't have to be a "tungsten" weight....if you are fishing from the bank you WILL get hungup and losing tungsten weights can be very costly... i think a 3/0 or 4/0 hook is plenty. i like green pumpkin magic and in stained water junebug would be a good choice too. good luck.
  18. thanks guys... i think i'll order some from Mudhole..... i wonder if Delaware Valley Tackle offers it?? i'll check with them 1st... is that the Mr. Clean magic eraser you are referring to?? do you use it wet or dry?? won't that leave "soap" in the cork???
  19. i saw this mentioned in the "cork repair" thread... i see where a couple of you recommend it...so i'm guessing it is good to use on all cork handles?? all my rods are cork..just a preference....i'd like to "preserve" them..and had never heard of the U40 stuff.... please give some feedback if you use it.. also, i see some on EBay...would you think it is ok to buy from there....or buy from a rod builder's website? thanks...
  20. fished a night tourney Saturday evening. i had the best luck with a Zoom speedcraw in Junebug. i think those large "claws" flapping did the trick. at least thats what gave me confidence.
  21. i use yo zuri ultra soft on all my spinning setups...and love it....i would recommend using KVD line conditioner...it does make a difference.
  22. Bandit- 100 & 200 series Bomber Fat Free shads Strike King 1.5's and series 3,4, and 5
  23. i've had the best hook-up ratio with the Scum frog. the trophy series is what i go to when i want confidence. IMO it is the softest and works the best. the spro just seems to stiff??
