Catch & Release
Everything in fresh is catch and release to me. Lots of stuff in saltwater is catch and release. There are only a handful of saltwater species that I'll keep for the table.

YUM Gonzo Grub
So I was at the store earlier looking for some more Yamamoto DT Hula Grubs. They had one pack, in one color. Naturally not what I wanted (bought them anyway - stupid monkey). Was walking around and saw the Yum grubs, they look exactly the same as the GYCB grub. Obviously it's not the same plastic and whatnot, but the profile is pretty much the same thing. Anybody else ever use these?

Eagle Fishmark 640 c VS. Lowrance X 135?
I returned my Humminbird 570 and picked up the eagle. It's not a bad machine at all, in fact it works pretty good. My biggest complaint with it was the screen. I had to darken the contrast ALL the way to see it. Plus I do a lot of night fishing and the backlight really wasn't that great at night. I couldn't keep it for those two reasons. The eagle seems to do as good as a job, with a much better screen.

Eagle Fishmark 640 c VS. Lowrance X 135?
I've got a 640c and it's not a bad unit at all. Has all the regular Lowrance style menus and whatnot. Better resolution than the X135. The X135 has a bit more power output. Six on one hand, half dozen on the other. If you like color, buy the color. If you can use black and white, buy that one.

Stage of fish in Florida right now?
Talked to a local guy at BPS earlier today who worked over some of the Miami canals yesterday. He said he saw plenty of beds that popped up almost overnight. Depending on what this minor front does this weekend, the fishing should get better quickly. Heres to hoping.... Oh yeah, he also showed me a few pictures of some simply monstrous peacocks he caught over the last week. Scary big.

Peacock Bass
Gotta love catching the Peacocks down here. Yes there are some left. They breed rapidly and grow rapidly to maturity. They'll be back before you know it.

Going to buy side imaging - any last words?
Lol. Can't blame you.

Stage of fish in Florida right now?
The stage of fish down in southern Florida is.....screwed up. I thought we were in the pre-spawn. Found a couple sitting on beds, etc etc. Now there are non on beds anywhere. The strange weather has messed them all up. I would love to say the pre-spawn right now. But who knows. Eventually the weather will stabilize and the fishing should explode. Not sure how things are looking in Central Florida/Orlando. But I would imagine it's much of the same thing right now.

bank fishing sucks!!
Congrats on the kid. Having kids is a blast. Welcome to a fun filled world of smelly diapers for the next couple of years ;D

Most cost effective combo unit?
Don't quote me on it, but I believe it does. I'd buy one right now if I could get it without the GPS/Chartplotting. I've got little to no use for it where I fish.

bank fishing sucks!!
Agree 100% I can't even get a flipping bite in shallow ponds going...so whats up with that.Totally screwed up this year. > I am just holding on to the hope that all hell will break loose once this unusually cold water warms up. Surface temps here were in the very low 70's during the day yesterday and down to the upper 60's at night. Scary to realize that that is fairly cool water. The best part...next month is traditionally the rainy part of the year...YAY! So long as we get stable weather I'll be happy.

Hello, My first post
Welcome! The only stupid questions are the ones that aren't asked.

Things I need: (WTB)
Come on, tell the truth. You know you don't really want her going with you.
-
Most cost effective combo unit?
Just make sure it's what you feel you need. Believe me, I'd love to throw a 798 on the boat I use here at home...but it's really not necessary. I keep looking at it and saying man that'd be sweet. Then I realize that I don't need electronics that cost more than the boat they're floating on. Thats my specific situation though. Make sure you sit back and evaluate what your needs are. A thousand bucks is a lot of cash to spend. That being said, if you've got the loot lying around go for it. But you don't want to buy something, then regret spending so much on it later on down the road (especially if you have a wife or SO).

Tackle Storage: 360 or 370?
Both

Sonar Resolution
I hope I didn't mean to make my statement say you were wrong. Didn't mean that at all. It does make sense that more power would equal a better return though.
-
Sonar Resolution
How much do you honestly think the power matters though. He's not going to be going much deeper than probably 100-150 feet for what he needs. ------------------------------ This is why I asked here. Thanks for the input guys. I really couldn't give him a good answer.
-
Sonar Resolution
So my dad called me today and asked a question that I was totally confused on. He's looking for a new graph for his boat and wanted my opinion on which screen would be better. I couldn't really give him a good answer. Both are 16 level greyscale, similar dual beam transducers, etc etc... One sonar has a resolution of 640 x 320 (250 RMS with 2000 peak to peak power) Another has 480 x 480 (unknown RMS with 4000 peak to peak power) What do you think.

My boat
You need at least an 8' wide door and from prop to tongue tip you'll need about 26'. A swing tongue will take off about 2', so 24' minimum on the length. Yeah, the 8' door isn't an issue. It's the depth of the garage. I think I've got 20'-22' foot if I emptied one side of it. Wish I would have thought about it when the house was built. Not worth buying another house to be able to put a trailer in the garage....or is it.....

Best way to use JJ's magic
Words to the wise. DO NOT OPEN IN THE HOUSE! You will really regret it. But if you do, you won't have to worry about vampires....ever.

bank fishing sucks!!
Fishing has been really slow for me down here as well. Sure I've caught some, some were large fish. For the most part though, the numbers are way down for this time of the year for me. The cold fronts coming through have just killed the fishing, at least thats what I'm blaming. Gotta love the fact that another front is coming through today....

Searching for a boat
(start rant) I swear...I've been searching for a boat for a few months now, but can't find anything that I'm really interested in. I found one a few weeks ago that was really promising, and it was sold in about 15 minutes after it showed up on Craigslist. Plenty of boats for sale, but nothing that I'm really looking for. How hard is it to find a jon thats wider than 32" at the bottom thats used and in decent shape. I just can't imagine that a 32" boat will be remotely stable with either me standing, or my two daughters and I in it. I'm sure something will eventually pop up, but damnit this is starting to frustrate me. (end rant)
-
Just insane!!!!
Good God, thats ridiculous. I mean I'll probably buy one because I've done fairly well with the gold/black color. But wow, 32 bucks just to have a lure that won the classic is freakin stupid. Hell, preordering it seems a little crazy to me.
