  1. awesome replies, and yes I have already gone crazy with all the variables hah. I went a little crazy on the green colored worms and didnt pay attention to the other red flakes blue flakes etc. Also are you guys using a 4/0 or 2/0 with these worms? I was told to use a 2/0 because a 4 was "too big", but I have heard of alot of guys here using 4.
  2. Hey guys. I have been trolling these forums for a while now that I am getting more serious. I am still a bit overwhelmed when it comes to tackle. I have decided to focus on getting my plastics that I need right now. I want to know what you guys go to when you just NEED to catch something. colors, brands etc. I have read road warriors "guranteed to catch bass" post and would like even more input from you guys. Right now I am using Kanami senko type worms and some roboworms which include: Black/Blue bottom (kinami senko type) Watermellon pepper (kinami senko type) green pumpkin (kinami senko type) Green/white bottom (kinami senko type) Hologram shad roboworm (curly tail) Baby bass roboworm crawfish Bold bluegille roboworm. What other colors should I absolutely have? shoot me a secret or two
  3. Id try Summit or JC whitney first. I bet your rig has a tranny cooler inside of the radiator, but an external one definitely wont hurt.
  4. thanks a ton, this forum is very helpful. Now the hard part is just picking what I want within my budget! I used a friend of mines real this evening at this LMB spot and his rod is so much more sensitive than mine. Can feel bumps along the bottom and what not.
  5. I was checking out the lightning rods on BPS and was curious as to what the difference between the casting model and the trigger model is? I saw a plastic "trigger" on both.
  6. ya It definitely is a piece of crap and It WAS flexing the cheap plastic side plate and interfering with movement. Everything is lubed up well and spinning nicely (as nice as this thing spins) with the screws backed out a bit. Thanks.
  7. wow thanks for the advice guys! And yes the setup im using right now is probably 20-30 bucks. I think any upgrade would be better than this thing. I will check out all of those rods/reels mentioned. Any more would be great too. Also not sure if this is the right spot but here we go. I took the side cover off that cheap spinning reel because someone dropped it in freshwater and I wanted to oil the bearings etc. Everything looked fine and when I snugged down the screws it was harder to reel until I backed the screws out a bit, is that normal?
  8. Hey guys, Posted a while back with a few questions and have been fishing about every day since! My two poles I use are my cheapy walmart spinning combo which is a Shakespeare light pro reel on a 7 foot medium action ultra lite Shakespeare rod. I use that for trout and bass. The other reel I use for catfish and striper and it is a 7 ft medium action Ugly stick with a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000 reel. I feel confident enough with a baitcaster to replace the walmart combo with a casting combo and was considering the Whuppin' Stick Bait Casting Combo.(item number 9IS-121801 if you want to check it out) I know its not the BEST, But right now im fishin on a budget! If someone can give me some input on that combo or recommend me something else cheap that would be great. Id like an all around combo (I fish bass, catfish, striper, carp, bluegille etc) if that exists haha. Also if someone can recommend me a good oil and grease that would be awesome too! EDIT: also I do all of my fishing from the bank. either canals or tree covered areas. I was wondering if I can step down to a 6 foot rod with no ill effects?
  9. Hello, I first posted up in the tackle section regarding setting up a tackle box and had a few questions regarding rod/reels. Right now I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000 baitcaster reel on a 7 foot medium action ugly stick, I also have a small shakespear spinning reel on a 7 foot Ultra Lite pro rod. The rod I have on my ugly stick is built alot stiffer and is bigger, they both say medium so is one like a "heavier" medium? I am hell bent on learning to use a baitcaster, but I cant for the life of me throw light tackle with my baitcaster. Is it because of the style of reel it is? I have seen the smaller baitcaster reels and am considering getting one. Also this "heavier" medium action pole seems to make it harder also. Any recommendations on a rod/reel combo would be great.
  10. Thanks for the info, I got a smaller bag due to the spots where ill be fishing. I have to hike down into a very large and rocky reservoir. and I think it would just be a PITA to carry a large box down where ill be going MOSTLY. Once I am more experience I do plan on building up my tackle aresenal, but at the moment I am just trying to get going on my budget. which is around 150 bucks out the door. and thats for everything I need. Just pick up my stuff and go. I really appreciate all your guys' help. I am very excited to get out there and hook one on my own. ::edit:: also the two rod/reel combos I have are: 1 shakespear spinning reel with a "Lite Pro" rod which is an Ugly Stick 7 foot. The other is an Abu Garcia Ambassadueur 5000 reel with another 7 foot rod which is medium action Ugly Stick. It seems alot heavier and all around bigger then the Lite Pro which is also a medium action. I am curious what you guys use to Lube your reels also. These have been sitting for about a year and need a lube. Would WD-40 work or is that a no no.
  11. Hello all, I have been lurking for a while and love the site. I live in central California and this past year I have really started to love fishing here in the reservoirs and canals. I have always went with someone else who had the tackle, gear etc. Well I need to lose some weight and thought fishing would be a good way to start, even just getting out and doing something healthy. I decided to stock my own tackle box! I bought a smaller size over the shoulder box from Walmart and really not sure where to start in the tackle department. Mostly what I plan to fish are stripers, channel cat, trout,bluegill,crappie,small/large mouth bass and carp. What I am asking of you folks is some recommendations on what to stock my box with. I already have a rod and reel so that is covered. Just need the tackle. I appreciate the help in advance!
