  1. well I better clarify, this place is pretty much a liquor store with live minnows and a freezer with frozen anchovies and squid in it lol. The guy who works there doesnt know jack about fishing and probably wouldnt tell ya anything if he did. Guess I can buy a few and test it out, but at a 1.50 a pop I can see these things getting expensive fast.
  2. This may sound stupid, but I was wondering exactly how you guys fish with live shiners for LMB. Octopus hook with a bobber and let it sit there or what? There is a bait store a few miles away that sells live minnows for 1.50 a piece , would these work just as well? I need to check the CA laws on catching shiners for bait. I'm not even sure if I can.
  3. I had an 89 ranger with a 2.9, 4:10 gears with welded spiders. and a 5 speed. That truck went anywhere and everywhere my fullsize buddys went. chirped the tires through third, dang I miss that thing.
  4. My roomate has an S10 with the 4.3, in my opinion one of the best motors chevy has. That motor in a bigger truck wont be blindingly quick but paired with the 5 speed it should be plenty enough and get pretty decent mileage.
  5. Bassmajor, thats a rad setup. How comfortable is the frame on your back lol?
  6. ya I planned on just holding it when I trek through the bushes and trees, but when I walk on paved canals for stripers Id like to just have it straight up and down.
  7. thanks guys, looks like im takin another trip to wallyworld.
  8. bilgerat that backpack is very nice, even the price with boxes isnt too bad.
  9. After noticing some small frays deep on my 30# pp (on parts of the string that never even touched water) I took it back. A buddy of mine recommend I go with some 20#, said it would cast better yadda yadda. After reading about baitcaster reels and braid I read where people were having bad dig in with 20# test due to it bein real thin. Is this true? Will it happen even if I put about 10 yards of 8lb mono backing? I would rather not have to return the line for a second time but if its going to be an issue I will. on a side note, spooling braid on a baitcaster goes: mono tied to reel with arbor knot, then uniknot to braid correct?
  10. Hey I had a small FLW bag with 4 boxes that ran out of room FAST, and it sucked carrying it with one hand or on the shoulder. I went and bought a remington backpack at walmart for 10 bucks. I fit all 4 boxes in the main compartment with room to spare and its a ton more comfortable having my hands free. I was wondering if any of you guys rigged up something to hold your rod on your pack. This one has a side compartment for waterbottles and I was thinking of slicing an X in the bottom so the butt of the rod can slip through but not the reel. Any other ideas?
  11. real nice fish man, congrats!
  12. thanks a ton guys,I deffinately need to get some. Also thanks for the balancing tips. My walmart has been cleaned OUT of fishing stuff lately, so I might need to order it all which sucks.
  13. hey thanks hammer, just what I wanted to hear. About the spinning rod. I just ditched my wally world rod for the BPS extreme combo I have it rigged with some 30 test PowerPro. I kinda got stuck in a rut with plastics because thats what I caught my first fish on, so I just use it and use it, but dang alot of these lures look like fun to fish with.
  14. Hey guys. I was wondering if you can recommend me some crankbaits and other lures. I fish with pretty much all plastics right now and would really like to start throwing cranks/spinners/jigs etc. The choices are just overwhelming. Diving,Countdown,Original,Xrap, not even sure where to start . Do alot of you bank fisherman throw spinners and crankbaits? Seems like it would be a snag nightmare. Are swimbaits a possibility from shore also? Sorry for the noobness.
  15. nice pic and now you got the combo figures out how u like it? i had one belly u pon us today and the other i said forget it before even attempting to get out the hook i just cut the line. figured it was better that way. I like it alot, after I got it dialed in and the backlashes slowed down lol. Still gettin used to it, but dang the sensitivity is nice. I could just imagine the real high end rods/reels.
  16. Went out today with my new BPS extreme combo spooled up with 30# powerpro. Windy as heck and was getting really frustrated with the baitcaster. after many backlashes and a sliced finger I finally got it dialed in and got to enjoy it. Started out with my snagless frog and wasnt getting any attention. threw on a t rigged red shad kinami senko and bam hooked up with this baby. I was amazed the difference in feel and power compared to my UL walmart spinning setup. Sadly the fish didnt make it. It was gut hooked and for the life of me I couldnt remember the tips on how to get it out. I tried everything short of just yanking. I cut the string at the hook and tossed em back in and he was belly up. Feel bad but I tried. Anyways I am very excited about the new setup and just thought id show this fish off. Not huge but hey. Ill take anything.
  17. Anyone listen to his stuff? I am really big into old western/country outlaw music and was recently turned onto his stuff. Also watched a documentary on him today, Lived a pretty crazy life.
  18. They don't call them the Stealership for nothin'!
  19. Wish I could have gone to the doc in the box, but they wont even talk to me without cash up front. Sad aint it.
  20. I fish in the reservoir and forebay for striper, and a couple canals and wasteways for bass. Another good place is the Los Banos Creek Reservoir. Small lake that they hold bass tournaments at. Good trout too.
  21. I feel you on the hospital bills man. I recently went to the ER because I thought I had a hernia, well I waited in the ER for 12 hours. saw the doctor maybe 5 mins. they drew some blood, I peed in a cup and walked out with a bottle of vicodin. Costed me 1600 bucks. No insurance!
  22. Thanks for the input 420. I guess ill find out, and if it does hopefully by that time ill be itchin to upgrade anyways.
  23. well back to the braid question. Will running braid on this rod, which has aluminum oxide guides chew them up? Or is that an isolated case with Power Pro as BigRickRolled mentioned.
