Tidal bass Do's and Don'ts
Here is a post I did: 476 Tides Aug 22nd, 2005, 5:24pm If the creeks or streams are close enough to salt water they will have a tide. When the ocean tide rises so does the creeks and streams. Sometimes creeks and river will flow backwards under tidal conditions. A tide is the rise and fall of water caused by the moon's gravitational pull on the earth. Tide causes current and the rise of the tide in the ocean pushes against the creek flow and causes a back flow. Tides will fluctuate from day to day and sometimes by wind. The St. Johns river in Florida on a rising tide can effect the River 100 miles up river from the mouth. If you can catch the rising tide right you can hammer fish. Then when the fishing slacks off you can run up the river and catch the rising tide again. This will help you duplicate your pattern all the way up the river or stream. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What this means is the rush of water turns on the fish and moves the fish shallow. The bass will position themselves in the mouth of cuts on the shallow side to intercept the influx of food. On the falling tide fish will position on the deep side of the cut to catch the influx of bait leaving the flats. When the tide is done falling or rising you can go up river and catch the same situation and capitalize on it.

Anyone Teach Instead of 'Guide' Women and Teens?
Two things you will need liability insurance and a good lawyer. When your doing stuff like that with great intentions things go wrong and you might get hammered for it. If we didn't live in a sue happy world many doors would open up as an outreach to the youth and Lady anglers. If you are a federation member look into the rules governing stuff like this. If I remember correct you could be covered by BASS's insurance.

ughhh
(years it took many so many years on the water fishing and fishing more) This stuff don't happen over night I wish it did. Then when you think you know it all you then remember what you forgot. My problem is that I have forgotten more than most would ever learn. This stuff comes with time and being on this forum helps you take years off that time table.

how do you fish with a young child
Make it their day to shine bring snacks, take pictures, leave when they get bored. Use live bait until they get the hang of lures sometimes they are just happy casting all day with just a bobber.

Spotted Bass
If your fishing them in rivers and creeks I catch a lot of them on a crankbait, small jigs, and small 1/4 oz spinnerbait. In deep lakes I catch them on a verity of stuff from a dropshot cuttail, tube, jigging spoon, 4" lizards, noodling a worm, wacky rig senko, and a 5" paddletail worm.

Newbie Bass Information Needed
If the bass don't use it as a spawning flat they might use it for a feeding area. Early in the morning try a buzzbait or other topwater then later in the midmorning try a rattletrap, floating worm or soft jerkbait and fan cast the area. Around afternoon try to hit the shore cover and shaded areas with a worm or other soft plastic like a senko. If the area is used for spawning try a plastic crawfish or a tube and cast past the bed then work it to the bed. You want to drop it right in the bed and just shake it in one place. to the forum

Holy Cow Jimmy H. is a piece of crap.
If you watch his show a lot he talked about this on one of them. I think it was about a month or two ago. He explained that a guy that was his guide was going to trial over a show of his. I think Jimmy's position was that he didn't know it was such a small enclosure.

Whats up for this comming year?
Last year I broke down and used a worm some with good results. I kinda changed how I approached some water and it opened up my eyes to some things I forgot. Plastics are high on my list for this year.

Fishin after the rain?
To answer your question yes they do bite and sometimes better than before the rain. In the summertime the rain will cool down the water in a hurry and will turn on the fish. If you get a lot of rain the fish will move super shallow and make them easy to catch. The dark sky turns on the spinnerbait, topwater, and swimming jig bite. I had a second place finish in a tournament last year and most of my fish hit after the rain on a jig.

MUDDY WATER
Cold and muddy are bad words lol makes fishing stink. Find a place on the lower end that wouldn't be as muddy if you get lucky you might find a cove that might be clear. Try to find the warmest muddy stuff as you can or less muddy water.

What do you throw at schooling bass?
Soft Jerkbait, pointer, trap, spit'n image, popR, rogue, white tube, jigging spoon, spinnerbait, crankbait, spook, worm, Make sure that you throw past them and bring the bait to the school. Don't throw to the middle of the school fish the edges first. Same with any drop baits swim it to the school then drop it.

raining
I caught a lot of fish up there on a hand pour 4" straight tail worm, pop R, tube, crankbait, jig, 4" slug-go, in the winter a lot of guys use a jigging spoon summer a wacky rig works well up there also.

What is best?
You want to flip something compact like a flipping tube, Tube craw, or a creature bait. You don't want something that will hang up and will make its way to the bottom. Micro Munch makes a sweet beaver style bait called a Flipping Platypus that would be perfect. I flip a crawfish made by Bitter's that works great in grass also. It doesn't have the legs that stick out so it slips in weeds great. The main thing is to use something compact that will not hang in it. I usually rig mine Texas rigged but I bring it exposed then re-stick the tip of the hook to keep it weed less. If you have any open spots there is a tube out made out of that stretchy material like the 3 x by Strike King that will let the bait fall real slow. Make sure that you use some kind of spray scent because it will help the bait slip through the weeds. (use Braid) to the forum

i need help!
Being on this forum already means you a leg up on them already. 1) learn how to fish a worm 2) learn how to fish a senko 3) learn how to fish a soft jerkbait 4) Rattletrap is another bait that will be good to learn or crankbait 5) any walking topwater bait 6) spinnerbait This will cover you from top to bottom. The main thing with any bait is you need to learn many different ways of fishing the same bait. Read through the articles on this site and read through the posts talking about each lure. Take notes so that you can look back on later. Write down when these guys tell you where they fish these lures and under what conditions. If someone has a weird way that they are fishing a lure that is working for them write it down. Test it out on your water be creative. To be effective you need to know what makes the bass tick and what will make your bait draw a strike. Start with the basics and expand as you gain confidence in the lure. Don't get hung up on the mystique of a bait because you will become a lure collector not a fishermen. It takes time on the water fishing before you learn what you want out of a bait and what to look for. When you figure this out you weed out most of the pretty baits and you stick with the steak and potatoes. My point is that you can have a box full of lures that cost you a house payment but if you don't know the potential of what you have it isn't much good to you. Learn the mechanics of the lures first. (then buy the toys)

Fishing Forage
Source: Larry Nixon (won a $100,000 fishing one that he found in a lake and produced for two days of the tournament) Something else you can do is to bring you a rope and tie off on already dead stuff in the water. You drag it to the spot that you want and make a triangle with it with piles of brush. You can sit in the middle and hit every inch of it. Your sweet spots will be the corners.
