  1. Ok.... I have not been using braid but I have been setting the hook hard, I mean if he misses I have to duck cause the frog is coming. I will switch over to braid this afternoon after I run and grab some. What do yall think about power pro braid? Also I have been using the buzz type frog, and I do have a couple of the bronzeyes, but I can't seem to draw the strikes with it like I can with the other one. What is the proper technique for the bronzeye? I feel like I am doing something wrong with it. Just bumping across the top of the grass?
  2. I have been getting lots of good strikes in grass beds fishing with a cold steel "last hop" frog and a swimbait hook. I use the swimbait to hook to prevent the frog from rolling over during the retrieve. I have caught alot of fish on this frog but I have also had lots of missed opportunities like today I watched a 5 pounder hit, dropped my rod tip and waited, then set. Had her for just a sec and it was like she just spit it out. This has happened more times than I care to recall as well as in some tournaments where I really needed the fish. Anybody got any ideas?
  3. Looking for a pot tournament or something around central alabama. Any body?
  4. I am pretty sure that most places around me are in post spawn already. I pretty much fish all the alabama lakes. Martin, Logan Martin, Harding, Guntersville, Eufala.... I have never looked into shad that much but I do appreciate the info, I am going to check that out. Deeper fishing is something I have gotta get better at. It's been my weakness for a long time. Now I am off to do some research on shad.
  5. When you find active fish you want to fish them, but most important thing is to figure out why they are there and try to recreate that situation with other spots. Once you catch a couple fish in a spot, look around think about current, what type of structure your fishing, depth, temp, angle of the boat. Catching fish on a reaction strike is not the same as finding active fish. Active fish to me are caught with jerkbaits or crankbaits....anything they have to chase down. Once you find a pattern to active fish start throwing your senko in all places similar. If there are baitfish in the area then they may not be so eager to pick up on the senko. I use senkos primarily for the more inactive fish or highly pressured fish.
  6. Yea that is one thing that I wanted to do today. I went out there and found one 3 pounder but she was just sitting up under a pier, the rest were little. I fished deeper water and points alot, but had trouble finding active fish. It was a bluebird day here so that was probably part of the problem.
  7. My last few weigh ins have been pretty sad. 6.1 and 6.11 lbs. I wore fish out. Caught them all day long. I am fishing what I believe to be old bedding grounds in the morning with fast moving baits (buzzers, cranks and jerkbaits) then once the sun gets a little higher I move to isolated structure in about 5-6 ft of water. I was hoping someone would tell me what I am doing wrong and why I can't find the bigger fish.
