Berkley Nanofil
My suspicion would be that you have something sharp, be it a knick in your bail wire or sharp protrusion of epoxy around your hook keeper etc., that is putting a small knick in the line causing the failures based on your description of repeated breaking at the bail wire.

Revo S Vs Revo Sx
I prefer the S to the SX. I have had both and I hated the magnetic brakes on the SX and also prefer centrifugal brakes over magnetic. I will admit that I have relegated the S to be used on my punching rod after upgrading the stock drag washers to carbontex (even though the stock drag washers on Revos are pretty good) because the casting quality isn't terribly important with a 1-2oz lure. I gave the SX to my brother and kept the S - that's how much I prefer the S to the SX.

Rod Storage
Oops. Didn't mean to post this in this forum. If a moderator happens to read this could you please move this to "rods, reels, and lines" forum?

Rod Storage
Just wondering how everyone stores their rods. I've been leaving mine in the boat but have my concerns that long term stress on the blank with any flex may make them prone to fatigue and failure. I have an upright rod rack but haven't been bothered to remove them each time we go out and put them back on it.

Fitness For Fishing
Hi Traveler2586, It would be irresponsible of me to recommend a generic set of exercises for fishing simply because mobility, stability and strength vary so much from person to person that the focus of an appropriate exercise program will likewise be dramatically different from person to person. I'm in Canada so I'm not entirely familiar with the different certifications for personal trainers in the US but I do know of a few that are reputable. What I would recommend at a bare minimum is working with a personal trainer with a CSCS designation (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or ACE certification (American Council on Exercise) in order to ensure you're working with a duly qualified trainer and not a fly-by-night trainer. Hope that helps.

Fitness For Fishing
"Actually", I have a BSc in Kinesiology and a Masters in Physiotherapy. I'm a registered physiotherapist, Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Instructor, and injury management leader for an interdisciplinary golf performance organization (golf being a very rotary sport). Long axis rotation of your lumbar spine is one of the most potentially harmful things you could do to a lumbar intervertebral disc not to mention what it does to irritate your facet joints. That exercise was used 20 years ago as a mainstay in rehab and fitness training and should be forgotten. Your lumbar spine is supposed to flex and extend - not rotate. Rotation comes from your hips and thoracic spine. The only time that exercise is somewhat acceptable is when the legs are supported and knees flexed. But certainly not a long axis unsupported rotation as shown in the video without having exceptional spinal stability strength.

That "windshield wiper" exercise in the video is terrible for your lower back. Please don't do it.

What Type Of Point Is This?
I agree; that sentence is full of jargon that's meaningless because of the variability in definitions of the terms. Unfortunately they're used ad nauseum. And that's my point. There are too many terms that are more confusing than they are useful in the sport of bass fishing. In order for the sport to continue to develop, those types of terms need to have agreed upon definitions. If my colleagues and I spoke to one another or our patients about "that elbow bendy muscle" instead of using concise standardized terms there would be mass confusion, poor outcomes, etc. Why shouldn't the sport of bass fishing strive to have simple, meaningful, standardized terms that facilitate transfer of knowledge?

What Type Of Point Is This?
I think some consistency in how the terms are used is critical in order to facilitate transfer of knowledge. This is especially true in the case of a new bass fisherman asking for help in breaking down a lake and he is told something to the effect of, "I like to start with main lake points, cuts and bluffs and then move on to secondary points and old road beds". Standardizing terminology is a natural progression in the evolution of the sport as more and more layers of complexity and knowledge are added.

Please Help Me Scout This Lake
Thanks for the insightful and thoughtful replies! We do know the lakes very well. But when you're on the lake and you've been fishing it for years you get used to fishing based on siting everything above the water for landmarks or waypoints you had in the past. Having someone unfamiliar with the lake evaluate it has certainly drawn my attention to some under-fished areas that I'll try out this weekend.

Please Help Me Scout This Lake
Hi folks. I've been lurking on and reading this great discussion board for a few years. I'm looking for some feedback about how you guys would scout this lake based on the maps and information provided below. We've been fishing this lake for about 15 years and I feel like we have a pretty good handle on it but every once in a while we go fish some spots we normally wouldn't and we're occasionally surprised by how productive that "new" spot is. I feel like it's easy to get stagnant on your home lake and a fresh perspective would be great. Here's some quick info: Lake Type: Natural lake on Vancouver Island on the west coast of the province of British Columbia in Canada. The climate here is very mild compared to the typical Canadian climate. Current temp: 67 F Water clarity: Quite stained in Beaver Lake (about 6 feet of visibility) and moderately stained in Elk Lake (about 8-10 feet of visibility) Vegetation: The Beaver Lake portion of the lake is heavily weeded from the bottom to the surface about 60 feet from shore with the weeds being in excess of 10 feet tall. Some spots in Beaver Lake are choked right between the islands and the shore. Fish Species: Largemouth, Smallmouth, Pumpkinseed, Yellow Perch, Carp, Catfish, Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout Keep in mind the depths on the maps below are in meters and not in feet.
