  1. Go to bing.com Click on the cash back link, and read the details. This is a Microsoft thing. I've done it many times and it works great. Lots of money saved. You get the rebate in your paypal account after paying. The refund comes almost instantly if you buy from a seller with lots of feedback. I haven't been dissapointed yet.
  2. Just trying to share the joy. The Bing (previously known as Microsoft) cashback is at 15% on ebay today. Just picked up a loomis IMX spinning rod plus a shimano sahara outfit for $225 brand new!
  3. Thanks. I've done some google work on this, but I suspect fitting a bimini top on a bass boat is a tricky thing. I thought maybe there would be one company that people had good experiences with. David
  4. Congrats on the boat. I just got a new aluminum Triton a few weeks ago. That break in period was really HARD. I wanted to gun it so much. Enjoy. David
  5. I'm thinking about getting a Bimini top for my Triton VT19. Any advice? My bass boat is also a family boat and I think some shade would help my 4 and 7 year old boys stay on the water longer in the Alabama summers. I also need a boat cover. My boat is dry stored in one of those big aluminum buildings. They use a diesel powered fork lift to move boats in and out of the water, and I've heard that a diesel exhaust film forms on everything if I don't cover my boat. Where is the best place to buy a bimini top and a boat cover? The cover is not for towing, just for storage. David
  6. I just read some about braid, and it seems like some people recommend special rods with different profiles for braid. Is that ridiculous? David
  7. I haven't really considered braided line. I might try fluorocarbon though. These forums are really great. It just took a little reading to figure out what people liked here. I'm very impressed with this forum. David
  8. I have a feeling this is just the beginning. My first bass outfit. I think I got a pretty good deal (from respected sellers) on ebay after the microsoft 10% cashback. G LOOMIS BCR803 GLX FISHING ROD $270 2009 Shimano Citica 200E Casting Reel $90 I may want to upgrade reels later, but I'll see how this works. What 14 lb test should I use with this outfit? David
  9. Thanks for the ideas. I've read A LOT of the articles over the past few weeks. I've also posted in the equipment forum for ideas. The guide service is an excellent idea that I will do. I already sent an email to a guide tonight. I'm really excited. David
  10. When I say newbie, I mean to bass fishing, not just to this forum. I just bought a boat one week ago. Any advice for fishing Wheeler Lake out of Decatur, Al would be appreciated. I figured starting with a worm and jig set up would be a good start. Any advice? David
  11. Newbie here. 37 years old. I live in Athens, AL and will be fishing Wheeler Lake on the Tennessee river. I grew up here, and caught some bass using Johnson spoons back then, but I really had no idea what I was doing. I moved to Arkansas after college and did a lot of fly fishing for trout there. Now that I'm back home Trout fishing is really out of the question. I have 2 boys (4 and 7) that I would like to take fishing, plus my parents live here too. My wife even says she wants to fish. So I have quite a few potential fishing partners. I bought a 19' aluminum Triton Bass Boat last week with a 90 hp Merc. Not exactly a Ranger, but it's a lot of boat for the money. It holds me, my dad, and the two boys comfortably. I'm pretty much stuck at Wheeler for fishing since our family cars are a Honda minivan and a Honda CRV - not exactly towing material. I actually store my boat at a marina so I don't have to deal with the towing. Now that I have a boat I need to start fishing. I basically have no equipment for bass fishing. I know G Loomis to be a good name from fly fishing, but what would y'all recommend? I thought a good worm and jig rod with some fluorocarbon line would be a good start. I'm still clueless about the reel. Any advice would be appreciated. I probably also need to upgrade my depthfinder since all I have is the low end Lowrance than came with the boat. Advice? I wouldn't say money is no object, but if I'm convinced it will help me catch more fish then I can probably try it.
