  1. I consider smallmouth a delicacy.
  2. Canned corn with sodium is more effective than the bagged cut corn. I use about two cans when I go fishing, the great majority of it I use for chum. Chumming has been key for me this year. Use a weight and have your hook on the bottom in the same area as the chum. I think gold or red hooks can help with bites to, but thats just a theory.
  3. I had a snapper chase down my musky spinnerbait and then bite it at the boat earlier this season. Never seen a snapper chase like that.
  4. I used my new catapult this morning and it worked fantastic. Fun to use to. I credit it to getting me a bite, a big one 33.5". He really choked my hook I had to cut the leader line. I was glad to get this fish because it proves out a new (carp) spot during lower water conditions. The bite should only get better with the fall bite right around the corner. goodluck
  5. This time of year especially, I can guarantee you will catch smallmouth on an inline.
  6. Merrimack. I do want to fish the Charles tho. Boston seems like it could be a carp wonderland.
  7. I received my Korda heavy catapult earlier today. With a spare pouch. Seems quality made. Hope to use it on the water in the next few days. I have thought that I will never get into the nitty gritty euro stuff, but this sling shot will hopefully up my catch rate in the low water conditions.
  8. Had a blast this evening. I got down there immediately after a rain event, but the little stream was not trickling like I had anticipated. For about an hour I thought this is gona be another skunk but then some action came. I have heard of people getting the musky bug. Ill tell ya, whatever the carp bug is I got it bad. Pics are of two different fish and the backdrop.
  9. The slime coat quickly grows back when the fish is put back in the water, unless the water is poor quality.
  10. Its pleasant to have some company to talk fishing to. Be it an old fishing buddy or some random soul at the pond.
  11. Oatmeal itself is a proven carp bait. Have caught at least one on oatmeal many moons ago. The thing is its a whole process to rig it and cast it. Corn is just so much easier and efficient.
  12. I ordered a catapult today for chumming way out there. With low water the fish are spooky if they even do come shallow. I should be able to hit main current flows with this glorified carp sling shot. http://www.bigcarptackle.com/bait/baiting-aids/catapults/korda-katapults
  13. Im thinking with the low water conditions getting the high tide bite will be key. Low water, low flow conditions have been tough. High tide is at 7:21 tonight.
  14. A beaver's tail would look like a snake when in swimming form. I see alot of muskrats and their tails look like a snake.
  15. Very nice. after getting skunked and having a dry spell it feels great to finally get that fish.
  16. You can't really cover water with a craw. It doesn't have the attracting quality of a lively fish. When a craw is on a hook it doesn't act normally. I never had much luck with a craw on a hook, but a craw with no hook scoots around and the bass nail it. You would have to fish it in an area you know there is bass. I would say give it up and use a tube and rebel craw crankbait instead.
  17. Sorry im just bitter because my thoughtful opinion that I posted in the other thread was deleted. I understand the topic of the other thread was someones personal video log and not meant to be a back and forth about non-native carp. However i think these threads should be allowed to flow naturally, and if that means the conversation swings wildly from the initial topic so be it. Like if we were sitting around a fire drinking beers talking about fishing.
  18. This thread should be banned and deleted like the other one.
  19. That looks like a cool spot you got down there! A small river?
  20. Chum handfulls of corn in the area. If they are in the vicinity, the corn will catch their attention and they will start feeding.
  21. I think a long rod would be fine in that area. The river spots I fish involve casting around brush and trees, I would never get a cast out with a 10' rod. But that spot looks clear of obstructions so go as long as you want, however you should match your tackle to the fish.
  22. Oh the glory of battle! I caught a tode of 32.5", it was a great battle; high water strong current. I mean the water was HIGH guy. If I can catch fish when the waters like that, nothing will stop me!
  23. cull every fish you catch. The pond is probably grossly overpopulated.
