My new rig for carp fishing . The Missouri Rig
Nothing wrong with using a small treble i reckon. I have hauled them in on trebles with nightcrawlers, and one time I caught one on a treble with corn, but with the three points tipped with a salmon egg. The fish were fine with the treble in their lip. I used to gill them- now that can really damage the fish.

My new rig for carp fishing . The Missouri Rig
thats interesting. I would probably use an oatmeal ball with that rig. And put a bead between the swivel and egg sinker. I would use it.

The more subtle rattlebaits, and rattlebait theories
For me, the rat-l-trap and rattlebait in general has always been kind of a big water bait. They seem to work best in big lakes; with boat traffic, wind, and waves. I originally gained my confidence in rattlebaits fishing clear water lake smallies, I would use a hot color like firetiger and the fish would see it (and hear it) from a great distance and chase it and strike. Its also a great lure for any sort of baitfish situation, but again, in big water. The other day at the pond (a fairly big pond) the wind was blowing in from open water to the weed line and I caught a nice fish in this kind of "big water" area. On a baitfish pattern xcalibur rattlebait. Sound transmits underwater 10x further than in air. I think in a small pond, the entire pond could hear a loud 1/2 oz. rattlebait. I think in a pond, especially a pressured pond, a rattlebait is just so obnoxious and unrealistic that bass don't react to it like they do in bigger water. I would like to hear your experience and luck with these more subtle rattlebaits that are on the market now. Like the silent red-eye, the one knoker rat-l-trap and the one knock boo yah. To cover water and trigger strikes in smaller water, I think I should try some of these.

Carp on fly?
Im not much of a fly fisherman. But if I was... this is what I would try. Chum the top of the water with pieces of bread. Then present a bread ball imitation fly. I think its fine to undersize your gear a little when your dealing with light bites and tiny hooks. I don't know what the science is about carp digesting white bread so use it sparingly. Just enough chum to get them feeding and looking for more.

Northern Pike unhooking tips
Big sharp treble hooks are much worse than pike teeth. Average sized fish you can grab on the top of the head behind the ears. Once you get the hang of that they are a pretty easy fish to handle.

Recommended Setup for Jetty Fishing New England
I use an Daiwa inshore casting reel paired with a 8' 6" Cabela's salmon rod. Im usually the only soul on the beach with a casting outfit, but I like it and I have success. The key for casting distance is the right combination of lure weight and rod load. Having the baitcaster adjusted right to.

Carp fishing advice
I would be willing to bet that not every carp in the area is locked on spawning. There will probably be a group of fish that is prespawn and another group of fish that is already postspawn. If you have a real fishy area like that just get a line out it might get bit. A little chum might help. Good luck. I lost one today, I horsed the little hook too much. I very small light hook will get picked up better than a bigger thicker hook.

Carp fishing advice
It might be a good idea to kayak out to the spot and then beach your boat and set up on the bank if there is a nice spot. A very long leader is best in heavy weeds.

Do any of u east coast guys fish shad in the river? My frustrations continue...
There is shad in the river. They come out at night and start going wacko on the surface, making crazy zig zag wakes and other bonkers activity. There was a time when I thought this activity was stripers chasing herring. Not the case. I saw one of the fish making a wake one time and it was a big shad. I think I have the right lure: a gold willowleaf rigged on a hook-length below some bullet weights for casting. I went down there and caught a schoolie and two smallies on the willowleaf. But thats not what I was going for. After sunset the shad began their manic behavior. I hucked the willowleaf, burning it, and got a hit. No fish tho. If I can figure these things out it could be a bonanza. What is the best lure and presentation for these fish? Im gona get some new lures, probably a painted willowleaf.

Is this pro fading?
I think KVD is like the Tom Brady of pro fishing. They both have had major victories and they both plan to keep playing for along time. KVD has said how he is not retiring anytime soon. He still has many, many casts to make.
