  1. www.bassfishinghomepage.com for reports (just click AL or TN) The good thing about Guntersville is you can catch them on your style.....from offshore cranking/jigging to frogging and flipping grass. One of the best places to get a bite is at a causeway like Brown's creek causeway. Also, working walking/popping top water over submerged grass in Seibold is working right now and senko type baits on grass edges as well. Although I have not fished Tim's Ford, I have heard it takes roughly 15-17 pounds to win tournaments and since it is deep lake, is more of a pleasure boater lake; while Guntersville usually takes 27-32 to win. Not sure how far you are driving to get to Tim's Ford, but IMO is worth the extra time to get to a lake where you have a better chance of catching an 6# or better fish. Thanks for your service and good luck.
  2. I heard that this past Sat. (Feb 26th) a tourney was held out of J.P. Coleman state park. 5 places were paid as follows: 1. 29 pounds (with 9.5 oz big fish) 2. 28 pounds (8.2 oz big fish, w/ another 8 even big fish). 3. 26 and some change 4. 26 and some change 5. 25 pounds and some change Anyone hear the same results?
  3. 30 14 4 N 89 41 7 W 30 27 26 N 89 41 51 W I used flashearth to get the coordinates. Both are good places to fish with a small boat and trolling motor.
  4. Anybody have any thoughts on the petition for lowering creel and possession limits on Lake Guntersville? I am not sure how they are going to enforce tournament mortality rates, but I am sure they will think of something. I am for it.
  5. It was pretty packed on Saturday, Sunday was a bit less crowded due to the wind and rain. My friend and I are also going to be fishing the Big Bass tournament out of J.P. Coleman State Park (Pickwick Lake) this weekend, I believe the last total I heard was only 55 boats, but more to register on Saturday morning.
  6. 1,101 participants, I believe there were approximately 500 boats because you could have up to 3 people in one boat.
  7. Fished the big bass splash this weekend (both days). Yesterday (3/20) was a beautiful day to fish, but we did not do any good; only boating 3 fish, with our biggest a 4.8, which was caught at 11 a.m. and everytime we cut the radio on, it never was in the top eight places (or even 10 places on the odd hours). Today (3/21) was a different story, the weather was rain and wind, but the fishing was on fire. My friend whose boat we were fishing out of had the best day he ever had on Guntersville. He was able to weigh in and get his entry fee back, expenses for the boat/truck, and some extra cash (so the tourney only cost me my entry fee). Sealy Outdoors cut the checks at 2:45 p.m. and had the drawings for a boat, day on the lake with Gerald Swindle, and a stealth ATV. It was raining so hard, that my friend after getting his checks turns to me and says "lets go." He turns to walk to the truck, turns around and says "with the day I had fishing today, I bet we win something" and sure enough we won a door prize. So my first time on Guntersville, I get two days of fishing and a good story to go along with a tournament that had 1,101 participants.
  8. I know that if you fish a cash tournament you are suppose to report that on your taxes (most people don't), but what about winnings from organizations such as FLW or BASS. Last year I won about $500 bucks on BFL, but never got a 1099-misc from FLW....did anyone get one? I know everyone is thinking, "man this guy loves to pay taxes," but its more like "man this guy really doesn't want to get auditted!" Thanks in advance for any responses.
  9. The spillway has some good fish, but it is a good place to get lost and it can be dangerous. True story: Fishing a BFL as a co-angler out of Berwick, LA in 2006 and as my boater rounded a bend, a guy in a reno skiff had slowed for whatever reason. My boater did not slow and threw a fair size wake on him. The guy FOLLOWED us to our fishing spot, stopped 10 feet away from us and began to trim his boat up and down while going forward and reverse. My cousin crawfishes the spillway for a living and has told me other crazy stories that will have to be left for another day. Back to where the good spots are: Lake C is really good, Delacroix/caneravon canal, Manchac (between Hammond and Laplace) usually has alot of open tournaments at the Public Launch in Manchac, Tchefuncte River has some fish in it (Rice Fields), False River (freshwater oxbow), Bayou Lacombe, and the East Pearl River (which also can be dangerous). Good baits to use are soft plastics in red shad, grape shad, green pumpkin. Also caught alot of fish on baby 1 minus cranks, and single colorado blade spinnerbaits that were used for saltwater fishing (like a cocahoe minnow set-up with sparkle beatles), black and blue jigs with green pumpkin trailer. I am giving up the info because I just moved from Hammond, LA to Huntsville, AL. google "Louisiana Sportsman" and see what they have to say about it.
  10. the big bass splash is March 20-21, I am sure they will have some reports afterwards.
  11. 1. Give the boater some cash the night of the tournament. You may have to give him more depending on the run you make, but giving the boater cash shows that you know that it is your responsibility to foot some of the gas bill. At the BFL regional, both my boaters declined the cash, I gave it to them anyway b/c word will get around quick that you short a boater. 2. Ask the boater how many rods and gear. They will tell you. 3. Bring your own life vest and face mask. 4. Try not to talk too much. Some of my tournaments I did not pre-fish, and was able to stay at a relatives house, so my expense for the tournament was about $175. However, the boater has gas for truck and boat, hotel, higher entry fee. Even though you may have limited investment, the boater more than likely has some cash tied up, so let him concentrate. 5. Be upfront and let the boater know you will probably get hung up (hopefully not), and how to get un hung without disrupting the grove. Also, let him know that you will not purposely throw in front of him.
  12. I believe you are comparing apples to oranges. First of all, take a look at the Kentucky Lake standings this past go around when the BASS pros hit it (6/3-6/6) and then soon after the FLW guys hit it (6/11-6/14). That is pretty close to apples to apples. The BASS pros put up more weight. What needs to be compared is the overall quality of how the tournaments are ran, television coverage, sponsor promotion, and payout vs. entry fees....just to name a few. At the end of the day D. Walker, G. Hackney, M. Iachnelli, L. Nixon, T. Omari, C. Baumgardner fished the 05 classic. So that just shows you that pros jump between the series, and do not believe that one is better than the other. P.S. That is just my opinion. However, if I had to chose it would be FLW and not BASS. I only say this because I feel that BASS has steered away from its roots, mainly due to being purchased by ESPN.
  13. There is an article on flw about how the fishing conditions are going to affect weights. D. Lefebre is a local (who also should be in the top 5) and says that the year when the classic was held was an extremely poor year.
  14. Non-Boater: Call up the guy that you guarranteed with and tell him that you will pay for the gas in the boat and the truck and make plans to pre-fish sometime before the tournament. $$$$ is a great motivator. This also helps because you practice very similliar to how the tournament will play out i.e. limited tackle, fishing from the back, and if going out the weekend before, very similliar weather and water patterns.
  15. I am holding it down on the Northshore (Tangipahoa Parish). This site is not as good as Louisiana Sportsman, but it will do. I would not be surprised if someone mentions all those fish you killed on your profile. I on the other hand have caught and released plenty of fish in da grease hehe. But some of these yanks actually do not understand....fishing=dinner. Just a heads up.
