  1. I totally agree BLee! I've only been a member for a couple weeks, but this is one of the best forums I've been on!

    Nice fish!
  3. This may turn out to be a different thread, but how many of you that keep track of stuff, end up using your records a year or two later? I keep mental records of where I catch them say... in the summer when the water level is high, or several other conditions. But I know the older I get, those mental notes kinda get blurred together! I can definately see the benifits of keeping a log if I could just stick with doing it!

I've done pretty good throwing the same colors in dirty water, that I do in pretty clear water! To me if I can see my bait 6 or 8 inches down, I stay with that color. Thats not to say I won't switch to a typical "dirty water" color, but sometimes I actually do better with the green pumpkins and such in quite dirty water if its sunny. Alot of it depends upon how cloudy it is. cloudy + stained water = black/blue for me
  5. I've been wanting to keep records like that for years, but i get started then in a week or two i quit doing it. Just curious as to how long you've been keepin records? I definately need to stick with it this year!!
  6. Sounds like you might have found a new favorite cove! Once you learn a little on the jig and gain some confidence, you'll have trouble putting it down!! As far as the spoon, thats a relatively new bait to me too! good luck and stay after em'
  7. I've told my wife time and time again that we need to move to Texas, and there's proof
  8. I go into the Springfield Mo store 2 or 3 times a month, and I've definately noticed some of their practices! It looks crooked, but they always seem to have things at sale price in the computer. This happens alot during the spring fishing classic, but I've never had to tell them that something was on sale, they always seem to have it right in the system, they just don't always mark it on the racks.
  9. I could be wrong here, but if ebay won't take the tax from you, its his problem. By running a business the sales tax is his responsability to charge or not. Is the person charging the sales tax to you? There are certain situations where online sales, even from the same state, don't require sales tax. I'm not 100% sure on all the laws, and bs, but if he were charging tax, ebay & paypal should let you pay it, as it is part of the sales price. just my 2 cents
  10. I've had good luck with a Zoom fish doctor on a split shot rig! It's basically a french fry type bait, it's just not really square, its kinda rounded with a flat bottom. I almost always use green pumpkin, or regular pumpkin even in really stained water. If waters to dark, I dye the end chartruese. BTW, a split-shot rig can be a great finesse rig on water where people over use a shakey head!!!
  11. Nothin' will bring tournament anglers to a screeching hault, like a lady waving her bikini top!
  12. Well your certainly determaned!! Good luck
  13. If I'm fishing new water, or if I haven't been out in a while, I'll usually start with finesse simply out of confidence. I've got a lot more confidence in getting bit quickly with a shakey head, than a jig. If I find some fish on something repeatable, then I'll switch to something I can fish a little faster. Granted, I'm not the best with moving baits, I would much rather fish jigs and the like. Having confidence in what your doing is the important part!
  14. They are quickly becoming my favorite soft plastic bait. With there compact size, there great for pitchin' to brush. Working them deep on points, like you would a football head jig, can be really productive, exspecially when everyone else is fishing jigs! My personal favorite color is green pumpkin with red flake
  15. You'll aslo get more, and better hook-ups with the horizontal eye!! Mostly because of the same reason that Thefishy1 said! The shakey head with a horizontal hook eye almost always comes straight up, where the vertical hook will sometimes turn leading to missed fish or poor hook-ups! With that said, I've caught many fish with both types of hooks, but definately prefer the horizontal hook eye!
  16. I agree with roadwarrior! The only time I'm really concerned with a super soft entry, is when fishing really skinny water. In really clear water, I do like to make as long of a cast as possible, expesially when fishing points!
