Which techniques are most important?
In the famous words of Rick Clunn, "Catching fish is easy.....it's finding them that's the tough part." I couldn't agree more with this. Learn seasonal patterns, how to read lake contour maps, where cover meets structure in your lakes, and then finally how to position your boat so you can fish these areas, and you WILL catch fish. Learn to do those things and the price of your rod and reels or the number of lures you own won't matter.

Rod Customizing
I can't imagine why no one will give you any advice on "putting things into the butt" ;D Totally kidding

Spro sizes
I really agree with NOVA on this one. I have several colors of both the 65 and jr. sizes, and have really put them to the test since they came out (with a ton of success I might add). So many guys have trouble losing fish on these, but I seem to have found a way around that, and that's using the jr. size. Also, trim the legs back 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I feel like this gives the fish a smaller target and reduces short strikes a bit. Many also say it aids in a walking motion, but I don't walk frogs a lot. Also, don't ever use the color ALBINO. It simply won't catch fish, and will be a waste of your time. :-X

Ike's new rod.... baitmonkey is going to kill for this one
I don't think it had anything to do with the relationship Ike has with Daiwa. He told me this personally, and there was a lot of enthusiasm in his voice when he did (yeah, it's ike, of course there was enthusiasm, but it was genuine). He explained the new technology they'd be using to make these rods and it made sense to me. Remember, I'm not talking about the new $100 rods he will be using in the classic; I'm talking about the rods that he told me will be coming out in about a year or so that have similar properties as the steez (which he wasn't comparing because he WAS with daiwa and has bad feelings now-he was just comparing because steez uses cutting edge technology to make one of, if not THE nicest rod on the market), and these will be at about a $200 price point. But still, $600 or $200??? I'm a college student....so that makes me extremely excited!

Ike's new rod.... baitmonkey is going to kill for this one
Looks like a great rod for a great price. I had the chance to talk to Ike Saturday night about these rods, and he said he's been very impressed so far. He also told me that they're developing a new carbon fiber rod, that is supposed to have similar properties of the Steez, even better, and at a price point of $200!!! He said those are probably about a year away....so the future for Abu rods looks extremely bright!

Red hooks or?
Here's the deal with red hooks: They aren't going to attract fish or start a feeding frenzy or something like that. Someone previously stated that they're worthless after 10 feet because red is the first color that disappears in the spectrum as water gets deeper (this is true, and black or fluorescent colors are the last visible colors at deeper depths). Let's think about that statement a little bit though... Red hooks would disappear first, and black hooks would still be visible. So let's say you pull up on a brushpile in 16 feet of water. This brushpile gets hit with plastic lure after plastic lure, day after day. The bass get used to seeing the same hooks in these lures, making it look unnatural and they won't eat it. Then, I come along and throw a plastic with a red hook in it. Since it's 16 feet of water, and red is much, much less visible than black, they don't see that same arch in the plastic lure anymore (the hook), and there's a better chance they'll eat it. See my point? That right there is my application for using red hooks. (please note that I didn't say to switch all your hooks to red because bass will think there's blood in the water and slam every lure with red hooks and even eat bare red hooks )
