  1. I am new to bass fishing, and see that it is supposed to rain during my trip to Clearlake next week. I am wondering how you decide if there will be lightning or not. Do you just fish until the first flash, then rush back to the dock? (Since I am in a kayak, I could be an hour away from the dock.) Is there some way to guess if there will be lightning before I make the 2 1/2 hour drive? Thanks, Opie
  2. I want to become more well rounded, so I hope to catch some fish using methods I have not been successful with yet. Crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, hard and soft ripbaits, and swimbaits are all on the list of things I have never caught a fish on.
  3. Thanks guys, I will try a 8 foot leader and work down from there. Branuss04, the reason I am trying braid is because it does not react to line twist nearly as badly as fouro on a spinning reel. Wind knots and rap arounds are a major pain on a kayak, where I do most of my fishing. Jig man, I'll let you know how it works, this is my first try at Clearlake. TimJ, I had no idea you could get a swivel strong enough and small enough to fit through. Thanks for another excuse to visit the tackle shop!
  4. I am learning to drop shot, and due to line twist I am going to try braided line on my spinning reel with 8 lb flourocarbon on the business end of my rig. I am going to Clearlake ,Ca and I expect to be fishing about 15 to 20 feet down. How long should the distance be between the hook and the begining of the braid? ( I understand the bass at Clearlake are veterans of this sport and spook easily.)
