  1. I was doing pretty good this year. I had only spent about $150 on various baits and restocking my soft plastics. Then, I went to the Bassmasters Classic Expo. The monkey knocked me out. I left with a Revo STX, Skeet Reese rod, and various other "gotta have" baits. Oh well, it was fun.
  2. Had one I bought about 20 yrs ago. I used it very little (quit fishing for a while). Last year I pulled it out, cleaned it well and lubed. It would cast a mile and felt great; however, I had a day on the lake where I caught over 20 small spotted bass. The reel was toast. The gears wouldn't hold up. I tried it one more time at Guntersville. I pulled in a 3 lb fish and it seized up.
  3. Keep working on mastering the soft plastics. Soft plastics will cover ALL gammets of fishing. You can fish them shallow, deep, or anything in between. You can fish them extremely slow, very fast or anything in between. If you can master soft plastics, you will catch fish anywhere. Once you are comfortable with soft plastics; then move on to the things that use soft plastics in their makeup; such as jigs, spinnerbaits, etc. Good luck, and Great fishin.
  4. Already caught a 6.9 last week. I hope to break 10 this year, but after a cold spell here in Alabama, there is ice on the water again.
  5. I use 50lb braid with a 12 lb fluro leader. Awesome sensitivity.
  6. There are more exotic places, but if you want to catch multiple fish over 4 lbs with excellent possibility of catching a couple over 8lbs and up to 12lbs. Come to the Big G. Guntersville is entering into that time of year when the BIG Mamas come out to play. One day tournament weights for the past couple of week has been 32 to 35 lbs. There are some very knowledgeable guides to help.
  7. I had the same problem with my $50-$60 reels. No matter how much practice or how I adjusted, it just didn't happen. I was constantly backlashing. I watched videos and tv fishing shows. Finally, I decided to get a better quality reel. I purchased a ABU Revo. Problem solved. I just loosen the cast controll ALL the way and turn the magnetic brake to about 3 or 4, and fire away. I can now pitch 30-40ft with no backlashes.
  8. I have a KVD cranking rod. I was using a different brand cranking rod and was losing about 1 out of 5 fish before getting to the boat, or was missing at hook set. Once I got the KVD rod, I now only lose about 1 out of 20, and very seldom fail to hook up. I love it.
  9. Caught my first jig fish, 4 lbs, caught my first carolina rig fish, 4 1/2 lbs. Went on to catch two over 8 lbs, a 6 lb, and a 5 1/2 lb all on same outing.
  10. thanks to everyone. I am going to find me some tungsten weights. Thanks to pitchin and flippin for the bulk advice. I will see what I can find.
  11. If you were a bass lure, what would you be, and why? I'm still trying to figure this one out myself, but my wife says I would be a horny toad for obvious reasons. Well, it is cold outside. Havin' fun, lovin' life, and bass fishin'!
  12. thanks for the reply and the welcome. I can see how there is definite advantages to tungsten, I just didn't know if it was significant enough to justify the cost.
  13. I know the logisitics of putting together these seminars would be tough, I personally would love to see it. I love bass fishing and learning more about it.
  14. Hello everyone and happy New Year's. I have been considering buying tungsten weights for my texas rigs. Is tungsten worth the price difference? and would you use it on carolina rigs as well?
  15. Learn to cast left handed. Much cheaper and has other advantages too!
