What is a good rod power and action?
Rod actions and lengths are dependent on what you want to do. All-purpose? Above mentions are all-around. 6'6" MH is probably most common, with 7 footers thrown in over the past many years as "standard". I personally do not like rods longer than 6'6" for bass, I'll go longer for saltwater, though. To each his/her own. I've not used Abu, but one of my sons bought a Lews combo at Dick's Sporting Goods, and he's enjoyed it thoroughly. It's an all-around combo mentioned above. Baitcasting, that is.

Pulled the trigger on a pedal kayak
Really nice! Enjoy it! Are you a DIYer? Could make a nice cart for under $30. Or you could buy one here. These are pretty amazing http://paddlelogic.com/trailtreker-kayak-carts.html

Shortening a rod
So I did it on two BPS Carbonlite rods (White). I had to use heat to loosen the butt cap, though that was a pain. I was able to re-install the cap (glued on). I'll have to take a pic. The balance does change a tad, though not to a point it bothered me at all. Definitely nicer to not always catch my life vest on casts while yak fishing. Regarding balance, I'm using light reels, Stradic 1000 size. The action went from ML to MML, if that makes sense. I don't think it is 100% Medium with the 3 lopped off, hence Medium Med Lite description. I love the action with Ned rigs, drop shots, wacky, etc.

Shortening a rod
I've had tips replaced by rod builders, myself. Rod action definitely changes. I've shortened rods on purpose, like my 6' Premier ML. I took 3" off and it is perfect to my liking. Other rod shortening I've done is removing 3" off the butt end. Keeps the rod action.

Every day carry knife...
For years I carried a Spyderco like this (it wound up about 10 years ago being on my fishing vest until the tip broke): Now I recently began carrying a Gerber Dime with a Nite Ize carabiner hooked to my right side belt loop.

Chris & Jimmy Houston Need Our Support
I feel for him, deeply. Lost my mother to a massive, I believe the word they used was "catastrophic" stroke back in 2015. My Dad woke up to her in this state. Was devastating for him, my bro and sis's. We lost her shortly thereafter, though to a better place. So I pray for Jimmy and the Houston family. May Chris recover, or as he says in the vid, go on to a better place, though I'll pray for her recovery.

New from Longwood, FL, Interested in Ultralight Panfish
Welcome aboard! ?? Those old Mitchell's were tanks! My Dad had a few back in the day. I think it was one of those on a UL setup that I knocked off the boat into the depths of Consesus Lake in the late 70's when I was just a kid. At least I'm still in his will, LOL.

Standing up in a kayak.
Yes, it gets better with practice. You'll learn your yak's stability points and find that secondary stability point. You know what can help... A skateboard balance board . Something like this.... https://www.amazon.com/CORE-Balance-Trainer-Training-Skateboard/dp/B017IZW2CI
