I lost two fish today, and I'm not 100% sure what to do differently
Do you have a net to help you pick it up, doing it by hand is not always an option especially if it ends up being a big fish. Last month i hooked onto a giant carp when i was night fishing. And i reeled it to the rocks and when my cousin went to grab the fish by the line, the line snapped. And then like 10 minutes later i hooked another one, im pretty sure it was the same carp. Same thing happened i got it to the rocks but couldn't get the fish out of the water, but he ended up getting off the hook, which is definitely better than snapping my line and having a hook stuck in his mouth or two hooks if indeed it was the same carp. I always carry my large fishing net with me, but that day was literally the only day i did not bring my net cause i forgot it and that was the day i hooked a giant fish. I was kinda mad lol.

My first Big Bass!
I finally caught a big largemouth bass. I started fishing last year and did not catch a single fish except for bluegill last year. And then this year i started catching a few largemouths and smallmouths here and there but they were always on the smaller side. I caught it at my aunts house cause she lives on a pond. And I would always say there is nothing in this pond except bluegill. fishbrain says theres largemouths here but ive only ever caught a baby one here. Well yesterday me and my cousin were panfishing i bought and ultralight 4 ft pole to catch bluegills and trout when i go river fishing. I caught this guy off of the smallest hook on the smallest pole, he lipped hooked himself over 1 trout worm, must have been really hungry to do that. We weighed him out to be 4lbs 16-17 inches.

New to real fishing!
I emphasized "real fishing" because i have not fished in years. I usually just go casual fishing. The guy who walks into a store buys a fishing pole and a bunch of stuff not knowing what im buying, goes out to fish and catches nothing ? But i decided to go to a local bait an tackle shop and have them set me up with stuff that i can actually catch stuff with. So im hoping for a great first fishing season. The places im going to fish have bass and pike, and then i also want to catch trout as well. Hoping to find out some good fishing tips here as first time "real fisherman", i plan to do alot of fishing this year.
