  1. thanks for the tips guys! I think I got it figured out. much better now
  2. I recently got a citica 200e, my first bass casting reel, and put some old 30lb spiderwire on it. I was casting 1/4-1/2 oz lures no problem. I didn't even have the magnetic cast control (the little knob on handle side) tightened at all, it was as loose as could be. I decided to get some 8lb YZH and try it. Well, story short but I can barely cast this stuff with out the line on the spool getting really loose. It's not really backlashing, it just gets loose and requires me to strip off a few yards and reel it back on to get it tight. I NEVER had this problem with the braid. What's going on?
  3. they had revo sx lefties on sale for $99.99 plus 50% off= $49.99
  4. It really depends on how good the new diesel is. Here are numbers to show how it works out if the rod was on caliber with a St. Croix Avid for example: Powell 1- $70 (breaks), Powell 2- $70 (breaks), Powell 3- $70 = $210 after replacing the rod twice. Avid 1- $180 (breaks), Avid 2 replacement warranty- $75 (breaks), Avid 3 replacement warranty- $75= $330 after replacing the rod twice w/ St. Croixs "gold star" plan.
  5. I am thinking about trying 8lb hybrid (not ultra soft) on my baitcaster for smallies... I will mostly throw small spinners, small cranks and plastics on 1/8 oz jig. Will this line be okay? I don't like fishing heavy line at all but have never tried mon/flouro on a baitcaster. Thanks
  6. there are a bunch of Powells on TW for 100-110. Can't beat em for the price
  7. I would tell them to send you the new curado, since it's almost identical to the citica 200e lol
  8. Hi everyone, I just recently bought my first bass-sized baitcaster: citica 200e. I am looking for an all purpose casting rod under $150. I will throw anything under 1/8 on my spinning rig, but plan on using the casting set up for spinner baits, beaver/craw stlye lures, crankbaits, and topwater. I typically wade and kayak fish so I don't want a rod for each application, just one all around rod. If anything, I would like the rod to be more on the "light" side in terms of power because I'm fishing a small river most of the time, not tons of 20"ers. Will probably throw 8lb mono/flouro or 20lb braid. Thinking between 6'6 and 7' and want something sensitive. Thanks everyone!
  9. http://www.gandermou...A1&merchID=4006 Does anyone use these reels or know much about them? For example, who makes them and what are some comparable reels? I have a few gander gift cards and I saw them on sale at my Gander so I am wondering if they are any good. Thanks guys.
  10. Trilene 4lb would be best probably. If you go yo zuri then definitely use 4lb. I use 4lb on my medium light and it is perfect. Have even caught several muskies with it and it held up fine.
  11. thanks for the suggestions. I made it to a couple stores and felt a bunch of different rods and I decided to get a St. Croix avid 6'3 mlxf. I found it for 130 on sale at gander and couldn't pass it up. I love the action on it, should be perfect for me.
  12. The vendettas seem normal in action compared to the veritas. I played with the ML veritas and that thing was like a M or MH. I really wanted to get one for smallmouth fishing but way too stiff for my liking.
  13. Hi, I am looking for some recommendations on a rod. I am looking for a rod that: will be good while both wading and fishing from a kayak. very sensitive Will work well with 1/16oz jigs n twister up to 3/8 oz lures And most importantly, it needs to allow those 12-16 inchers to fight well since the water I'm fishing I rarely hook up with HUGE smallies. Since I usually catch 'smaller' fish I want a rod that will make the fight fun Also, trying to keep it under $100.
  14. I used one for most of 2010 and had no complaints. They were just on sale for like $50 and that's what I paid for mine last winter.
  15. Every year I go up to a flowage in the UP of Michigan and musky fish and usually end up catching at least 4 or 5 monster smallies on musky lures. They will hit a large topwater or 9 inch jerkbaits LOL
  16. For river fishing: UL-Ugly Stick with old shakespeare sigma 2200 series. 4-6lb test. I use this during spring when i'm throwing little crappie tubes and jigs n twisters. ML- Gander IM7 with pflueger president 6730. 6 lb test usually. I use this for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and bigger jigs n twisters or live bait.
  17. Hey, I just got a gander elite metal spinning reel size 25. It is originally 80 dollars but was on sale for 45. I was wondering if anyone knew who made them and what reel they are comparable to. It has 10 bearings and a carbon fiber sealed drag. The other gander mountain tournament spinning reels are an exact replica of pflueger presidents so i am wondering what this reel is modeled off of. has anyone used one of these or know anything about them? i googled and couldn't come up with much at all. heres a pic.
