  1. I always went with small mouth will normally start when the water gets in the upper 50's and largemouth will state mid 60's, but there is always other factors: weather, water level, moon
  2. man dont get me started with wild life conservation. Just because they work for the state doesn't mean they are right. In ohio we are currently trying to fight off an over population of coyotes that the state brought in to help manage an over population of deer, that the state brought in. Same happened with japanese beetles, the states way to feed turkey and kill mosquitoes.
  3. I really dont see what is wrong with transporting to a private pond. If the pond owner is willing to risk bring in contaminated fish, let him. Also not being able to put a live fish in a livewell seems kinda crappy to me. was there a big court case recently to cause this?
  4. The big name pro anglers today wont just put there name a crap, they're smart enough to know that once their name gets tainted on bad products there's no getting back its former credibility.
  5. This one will only be for computers (windows, mac, and linux), but if it works well and people like whats in it i can always remake it for android
  6. I fish small rivers so i tend to like smaller baits, but here is my $.02 #1: rebel craw #2: 5" gulp wacky worm cut in half with 1/0 texas rig (double the worm and 2.5 inch will still get them off bottom) #3: rapala f-5 #4: 2.75" tubes (bass pro sells them cheep as dirt) #5: 1/8 ounce chrome and red rooster tail no matter howbad the day, one of these will normally get me something
  7. I under stand whats normaly on the logs, but what do you think is missing or would be nice to have. Since im making this program from ground up i can add any feature or statistic anyone would want. its those things im asking for ideas on.
  8. I am currently in the process of making a fishing log program for the computer. I am wanting you guys to tell me what you would like to see in a fishing log program (once i get it done ill probably hand it out to everyone for free). The only thing i have for it so far is a bait data base so you can log what bait you caught the fish on. Please say anything you think would be useful.
  9. Man has his name on almost as much stuff as KVD. But the thing i like about KVD is that he is NOT a salesman. He tells you what type of baits, last episode of the bass pros i saw he told you what color and bait to use but not the manufacture. I know his sponsors didn't like it to much but it makes me listen allot more since the man doesn't have strike king stamped on his forehead.
  10. hanks for the words of advise guys. Hopefully ill have some pics for you all this spring.
  11. That's where im lucky, everyone i fish with understand that fishing equipment isn't cheep. Hell most of them are huge hunting guys and know that they typically spend more on a gun than i do a rod and real.
  12. I recently discovered that i have a great brown trout fishery about a half hour from my house, so i play on trying to get some of them this spring. However i have never fished for any type of trout before so i know little to nothing about them. Can you guys help me out a little bit on what baits types to use and what structure to look for?
  13. In an article i read on here a little while ago, it talked about how bass will roam edge lines to find pray rather than ambushing it. I will under stand this for lacks and ponds, but what about your rivers (especially small ones) that don't have this long flowing structure to patrol. Will they hold to cover o roam piece to piece?
  14. I would be ticked, i hate seeing that. My worst has been a water moccasin, and boy was it fun getting the crank out of him.
  15. This year has been the latest i've ever fished up here. but about now will be the latest i ever fish. Instead ill be in the woods trapping, most years anyway.
  16. Fish slow and to the bottom of the school. Make sure your your bait looks like the shad and your retrieve mimics a wounded shad, These big boys dont want to be chasing food, they want to conserve energy and grab the easy meal.
  17. I would sell a kidney for a few of those.
  18. if thats ugly i dont want beauty
  19. Change it to a shad pattern and amen to that one. Always gets me out of slumps.
  20. A couple weeks ago i heard this technique on a local sports show from Doug Stange for fall small mouth. So last weekend my old man and i went drifting a little local river. dad kept to his normal strategy of standard texas rigging gulp while i was trying this, and lets just say by the end of the day we were both doing this. Since we were keeping rock bass to clean and the average fish is a little smaller in this river i had to make a few changes to the above presentation so i figured i would share. Lure: instead of using a senko i used a 5 inch gulg wacky work, cut in half. This worm is thinner and more fluid, i feel you get more action with less movement. This allows you to sit the bait on the structure(strike zone) longer. Hook: i used a 5/0 gamaktsu oct hook, small enough for the rocky and big enough for the brownies. I also put a 1/16 once split shot sinker directly above. This keeps the bait down in the current. Bobber: I used a cigar shaped foam pegged bobber, sold everywhere. I ran the bait about 2 feet below surface. Line: 2lb berkley vanish and a 4.5 foot shakespeare ultra light, its a must for finesse techniques . Presentation: 3 to 4 short twitches with about a 10 second pause between. They seemed to always hit on the pause. Location: I was casting this right on top of submerged logs and right next to log piles. I tried the open flats thing but had no luck with it. I know most you guys probably fish bigger rivers/lakes than i do so you might over look this. But for you guys who cant get to the big water or just want to go to the near by stream for an hour or two, this will bring in the smallmouth. This is also a great technique to use with younger/just starting anglers.
  21. Fishing baits of that size i would use atleast 17lb test with atleast a med-heavey pole.
  22. No one showing love to the proffesor? 1 Doug Hannon, KVD, Bill Dance(grew up watching the man) 2 Doug Hannon 3 i would actualy just ask to go for a dive under water with him
  23. I don't know alot about rods, but I will say the other year I was a goodboy and got a really nice BPS med heavey, and im telling you what, it makes a TON of difference. You can feel every little twig, rock, bump, so when a bass comes and just lightly picks up your bait you know.
  24. Just thought I would say great job for getting the forum formated for mobile devices. Just logged on here on my droid for the first time since update and it works fantasticly. Great job on update
  25. Me and my buddy go about twice a year on a weekend trip, cook up most the smaller bass we catch this way. Taste great out of a cast iron skillet over an open fire with a coorlight in hand.
