  1. 4" Powerbait Crazy legs Chigger Craw in cinnamon purple fleck
  2. Either way, to each their own, I'm just saying it's an interesting suggestion, and I won't just write it off without doing a little more "testing". I don't know for sure if a fish can see the line first as it sits in an ambush point, but it didn't seem like an unreasonable suggestion to add a bit of "stealth". And I've noticed that the FC sinks a bit faster leading me to believe that the bait will get deeper quicker, and therefore stay deep for longer. Any little advantage I can get out there is welcome as far as I'm concerned, so I'm willing to see if this actually shows any measurable difference. Things never progress if you don't experiment a bit...
  3. I use the FC leader to get depth because the braid won't reach as deep
  4. "Refined" tackle? LOL. ;D lol...maybe refined was the wrong word... I just meant that the SX felt more like a quality reel that could take a bit of a beating from a beginner...
  5. 1)14lb Stren original mono 2)***20lb PowerPro Braid with 10ft 10lb Extreme Angler FC leader tied on with a uni-knot 3)10lb P-line flouroclear 4)same as #2except I use a 12lb Ex. Ang. FC leader 5)8lb Flouroclear ***I was talking to a Shimano Rep at this years' outdoors-man show in Toronto, and he made a really interesting suggestion to me, verifying a feeling I had that I presented to him. We were talking about deep diving cranks (specifically my DD22s)... my set-up is a 7'2" Shimano Crucial Crankbait Stick MHMF (the TC4 is fantastic btw)... I asked him why more anglers don't use a thinner braid line with a flouro leader to give the advantages of getting deep and the ability to launch it a mile. He said that he had experimented the last half of the '09 season with the same set-up I mentioned above. The Extreme Angler FC leader material was a great suggestion because it seems tougher to me than using a regular FC line. Anyways, my first thought was that the uni-knot will cause to much friction traveling through the guides, but after trying it out for myself it is proving to be a great option for launching the DD22s. I liked it so much that I've tied it on my flipping combo with 50lb braid and a 3ft 20lb FC leader (the uni-knot is already past the guides when I flip my jigs so there's no interference/friction at all, but I can't vouch for this set-up yet because I need to test the strength before I say it was a good idea) I recommend any serious cranker to give this a shot, it's seeming like I'm getting a very nice little boost in casting distance to really get that crank down deep for longer!
  6. I have an SX and it was my first baitcaster. This reel gave me the confidence to move on to more "refined" tackle. Having brake controls on the outside was key, because I was way too intimidated at first at the thought of opening up a reel to adjust it's performance. I've never used a PQ, but I have been very interested in how it compares, other than weight and drag, because I'm thinking of adding one to the collection of my SX and my Curado E5 & E7. Does anyone think it's too noticeable of a step down?
  7. I have a Mojo spinnerbait rod 7' MHF that I use for spinnerbaits, jig & worm and froggin', and I have a Premier crankbait 6'6" MM that I use for shallow cranks and jerk/slasherbaits. They are both amazing rods, but the main difference is the split grip and the available actions. If you want a crankbait rod you can really make a specific choice if you go with the Premier crankbait series. The Mojo has a "crankbait" model at 7' MHM, but no other choices. The Premier has 6'6"-7', M-H models, and all Moderate action. The premiers are actually more type-specific, and the Mojos are good for multi-purpose use (2-3 applications each) I love 'em both, but lately I've been leaning towards staying more application specific because it really mimics that custom rod appeal.
