  1. Hey MeanMouth, good idea using the computer to highlight and make notations on the map, I have a couple lakes I fish where I've downloaded a good map so I can take a copy with me but it never seems as easy to read when your sitting in the boat. I'm gonna do some serious studying and make some notations to print up on my maps next time. Thanks for the idea!
  2. This may be a bit off-topic but when I lived in Seattle and did a considerable amount of salmon fishing there were some guys who swore by an unusual fish attractant, WD-40. As I understand it WD-40 has 2 major ingredients, fish oil and kerosene along with some other top-secret stuff, I'm sure. The fish oil is easy enough to believe since herring is one of the old standbys of salmon fishing. But I always wondered why the kerosene didn't just nullify any benefit the fish oil might bring. As was mentioned before, maybe the fish can't smell it or what I thought for some time was that it dispersed in the water much quicker than the oil thereby leaving only the fish oil on the bait after a short time. I don't know, but it's something that I've wondered about ever since I found out people used it. BTW, I tried it but never really thought it made a difference either way. Also, this was many years ago, I now know what a bad idea it is to put any petroleum product into a body of water.
  3. I have a little 14' jon boat w/ a 7.5hp and a bow mount trolling motor. At least it gets me out there and does OK on a lot of lakes and rivers. I'm really looking to get into something a bit bigger and more stable so I can cover more water. Between the HP restrictions of a couple of my favorite lakes and the limitations of my tow vehicle I'm thinking a 16' aluminum w/ @ 25 hp would be perfect for me.
  4. I've fished the Meremac mostly around George Winter park, some above the park and some below in the pools.
  5. I'm from Fenton, close to 141 & 44. I've fished the Meremac a few times and made my first trips to Baldwin and Coffeen this year. Had better luck at Coffeen but our day on Baldwin was a short one and a windy one so probably not the best for comparison. Got a little 14' jon w/ a 7.5 and a trolling motor so a windy day on any big lake can be a bit risky . I'm trying to get back to Baldwin soon and learn a little more about that lake, anyone interested in going along shoot me a PM. I work a lot of nights and weekends so my days to fish don't line up with most of my friends.
  6. Many soaps are biodegradable but nowhere near all of them, At our cabin in Ontario we are very careful to use only biodegradable products for anything that will be going into a drain as some of it will end up in the lake since we are on an island.
  7. My 14' jon is almost exactly the same as the tracker topper 14'. I just used the clamp-on mounts from Wal-Mart, I don't remember if the came with a swivel or if I added that. they work just fine. Once the seat is clamped to the bench its a little difficult to get to the nuts that secure the thing but you are able to adjust the seat side to side and a few inches front to back, that can be helpful in a smaller boat to get it to ride level.
