  1. Well my locking up procedure is to put it in a locked garage, but I have had boats at times when I didn't have a garage space available so I have given this topic some thought. This looks like one of the better locks for detering thieves or at least making it harder for them to find a way to drive off with your boat. http://www.basspro.com/homepage.html?CMID=MH_HOME Used with the addition of some kind of lock or cable to prevent the wheels from rolling would probably be enough to convince them to keep looking for easier prey.
  2. Usually once or twice a month I take the boat out, less in the winter depending on weather and things. I do take a 2 week vacation to Ontario almost every year and go to my Uncles cabin on an island in the middle of a nice bass/muskie lake, then I get to fish 4 times a day ;D
  3. Thats exactly my reaction when I opened up the box, now my other reels just seem big and the PQ is just right.
  4. Something that became a tradition for my Dad and I was peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. I almost never eat them at home or anywhere else for that matter. We did a considerable amount of saltwater fishing when we both lived in Seattle and I don't really remember how it came to be but we never went out for a day of fishing without our PB&J.
  5. I was thinking the same exact thing this morning while I was watching coverage of the Evan Williams tourney, one guy in particular was talking about how you need to get your jig right on top of the eggs to trigger a strike from the fish protecting the bed. $$$ will make people do things that they wouldn't normally do, or at least I hope they wouldn't.
  6. There, I fixed that for you. If they Have a contest to see who can snag a lure the highest in a tree I'm in.
  7. I have a Spirex and it's the smoothest spinning reel I have ever used although I've never used any real high dollar spinning reels. I like the QuickFire casting,Like the name implies it's quicker. The backplay has never been an issue while fishing this reel. I thought the double handle might be clumsy or in the way while reeling, but again it's never been an issue, I don't even notice the second handle while fishing
  8. I ordered the same part# as the one i already have so it had better be the same thing. I talked to them today and was told they don't have an arrival date for this item yet but it should be less than 30 days. has me wondering if I should change to a different gear ratio.
  9. Yup. This is the first bait that came to mind when I read the title of this thread. The Secret Weapon pattern is pretty cool. X3 I have had really good luck with the Poppin Image, got a lot of good bass on the baby bass pattern, even had a Muskie hit it once, he must have liked it too because he kept the popper.
  10. I ordered the 6.4 :1 right-handed, probably the most popular one.
  11. I ordered another one yesterday afternoon and have already received a confirmation email and an order update email. Unfortunately the last email informs me that my PQ is on back order, at least I locked into the sale price. but, I don't want to wait, I want my toys NOW! :'(
  12. Oh well, the bait monkey got me again! I couldn't stand all this talk about the PQ when I only have one of them, so I went to order another while they are on sale and BPS is running that darn 6 month payment thing again. now I have another PQ on the way and another $50 worth of stuff coming with it. I have everything I need for a great fishing trip except gas money >
  13. I got mine @ 6mo. ago. Very nice smooth reel, I was actually shocked at how small it is compared to my other baitcasters but it hold enough line and has been very enjoyable to fish. It's my favorite reel now, I've been thinking about getting another while they are on sale.
  14. I'd say in my limited experience that I agree with most of whats been said. I do best with topwater at sunrise and even moreso at dusk. But, I'll throw them at anytime just to see if I can stir up a bite, not always because I think it's the best bet, A lot of times just because I think it's the most fun
  15. Some of the reviewers on BPS said that the 12lb and under stuff was good but anything bigger than that was really thick and had too much memory, other folks loved it. I always take those reviews with a grain of salt because some of bad reviews are probably "operator error". It's just hard to tell who is who on there sometimes. I was hoping to get some feedback from a group with a little higher overall competence level. Oh, nice job on the Muskie!!!
  16. I just ordered a spool of Trilene Maxx in 15lb, getting ready for a trip to Ontario where we fish in a lot of cover. I read a few reviews on the site I ordered from and it sounded good and I've been happy with most Trilene/Berkley stuff I've purchased. Now I'm reading some of the reviews on BPS site and it seems I may have made a mistake. So my 2 questions are: Has anyone used this yet and what did you think? and, Is it worth the effort to try and change an online order or return this stuff for exchange after I get it?
  17. I can backlash a reel with either hand, but to really get a good birdsnest I cast right-handed.
  18. I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous :
  19. The lake I fish up in Ontario has the same thing, a lot of lily pads. Even frogs and worms can be a challenge to get through them. The primary lure we use up there is a Johnson silver minnow with a trailer, usually a single or twin tail grub. I'm taking some crawdad trailers up with me this year to try as well. When there is room between the pads you can slide that spoon through there without too much trouble. In some of the thicker areas we've had a lot of fun just pulling the spoon across the top of the pads, works especially well on a sunny day, The bass will bust right up through them to get at your spoon. Not sure if it will work where you are but it might be worth a try.
  20. I got those, hadn't thought about trying to sink them under the pads but it sounds like that could be some real fun action! Thanks.
  21. A little research prompted by another poster lead me to some interesting info: WD-40 contains no fish oil and according to their website never did. This was something I heard years before internet access was part of my daily activity so getting the truth would have been more trouble. The myth that it does contain fish oil is alive and well among a lot of folks still and there are still a lot of fishermen who swear by it. There are also a lot of folks who get pretty ticked off when they hear about people putting this into the water.
  22. Yeah, I did pick up a few colors of flukes to try. Man, are you ever right about the line. I made the mistake of tying a popper onto my spinning rod w 10lb test on it a couple years ago, That was the first time I ever saw a Musky hit a topwater, and the last time I ever saw that lure.
  23. Hey, Thanks for the replies. I have used frogs with some success, mostly in the manner suggested. We do the same thing with the weedless spoons often, throwing in the weeds and sliding them over the tops or bumping them around the edges, it can make for some dramatic strikes The lake is Lake Kashabog, created by a dam put in by a mining company several decades ago. The deepest parts are around 60', the areas we target LM are usually @ 5-10' deep(since this is a vacation cabin @1500 miles from home I don't have a boat w/ a fishfinder when I'm there) Although we have found some deeper structure like old logs/trees that we have taken fish off of and have caught fish in places that were barley deep enough to get the boat into. I've caught and released dozens of bass in the 3-4 pound range, seen a few over 5lbs caught, anything over 6 would be considered a giant for this lake but there are a few reports of them. I mostly target LM but have caught several muskies while doing it(always an adrenaline rush) and even got a few nice SM. When you want to catch smallmouth you can throw or troll little crankbaits around some of the rocky shorelines and catch them until your arms are tired but rarely find them over 2lbs. I think the main forage is crawdads, minnows and baby bass. I'm thinking that this years I'll bring a few jigs w/crawdad trailers, I'm wondering what colors might be the best bet. Also gonna try more soft plastics than I had with me before, I like the idea of creature baits. I haven't tried any spinnerbaits there, my Uncle uses them around weed edges and points looking for muskies, he got one that was 48" long a couple years ago doing that so I'll definitly have them along as well. I think one of the biggest challenges for me is going to be leaving enough room in bag to take some clothes along :-[ Thanks again guys, any other suggestions are welcome.
  24. I'm making the trip this summer to my Uncle's cabin in Ontario, It's on a good sized lake a couple hours north of Toronto. I've been there a couple times before in the last several years and have tried a few different techniques/lures but have usually ended up fishing with the same thing my uncle has used there for @ 50 years, a Johnson silver minnow with a trailer. I've tried various things in the more open waters on the lake but it seems that the most productive areas are the places that have lily pads so thick it looks like you could walk across them. Just looking for a few ideas on what other tackle or techniques I might try to get at some of those fish I missed last time.
