First Largemouth Ever Today @ Bluestone River
Generally speaking, the largemouth are few and far between @ Bluestone river, most would be in disbelief if I told them I pulled one out. That is, unless I had a photo. Oh look! I do. Kinda cool how technology documented my very first Largemouth ever.

Glenwood Park West Virginia
Locals that I know of: You have myself up by the mall, and a guy ShaneK1990 pm'ed me a couple weeks ago, he said he goes to school at Concord, and rowyourboat's down here somewhere, he said he fishes bluestone river too. I honestly thought Glenwood park was far too overpressured, but if you pulled a citation size fish out of it, it's worth looking into. LOL. As far as my locations, I've been SLAYING on Bluestone River. pics of 2 of them last trip here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1282532220 My buddy and I also frequent Wolf Creek, it's on the VA side. There's actually a problem with a couple guys the game warden's been telling us about, so we fish it often, to try and help out. Not many pigs there, but you'll get tired of pulling the dinks off all day, for sure, which is still kinda fun for guys like me, and the occasional 2+ smallie shows up. I'm still pretty new to "serious" bass fishing, so I go just to learn the "what, where, when, and why" of lures/presentations/etc. The cloudy water seems to kill it for me still, but I'm working on it. Maybe the SWV/SWVA boys will get together some time and share info. Love to see what everybody else is having/not having luck with!

Any luck? I haven't managed to catch much in the trips I've gone in the past couple years.

West Virginia Fishing License
That stinks, man. AD guys in this state need every break we can give them. Especially if the BAH here is still as horrible as it was 5 years ago.

West Virginia Fishing License
No seasons that I'm aware of, but the stocked trout waters may have some funny regs. I know down here they do, but they aren't huge bodies of water either, and I've never fished for trout. I might hit some of these suggestions, this magazine isn't a bad read sometimes, either.

2 smallies wading Bluestone River today.
Cool, thanks, I think I know the place you're talking about... I've got a 6" green pumpkin senko that couldn't catch a cold. I'll try the 4" lol.

West Virginia Fishing License
Yea, give them a call... If the college students are exempt, the AD folks should be as well... And u don't wanna pay nonres fees for a license that will only be good for 4 months anyways. (WV's licenses expire @ end of year)

Yea, rowyourboat summed it up... Every time we've gone we've seen at least 2 deer, most of the time they will be running the trails and come within 15 yards while neither party is paying attention. haha. As far as getting there without the hike, no, since motors are not allowed on the trails, but as ryb said, it's definitely worth it. I am by no means a Bass fishing expert, but over there I've had a LOT of success. ryb: I live in Bluefield, where do u get the brush hogs, or do u just order them?

2 smallies wading Bluestone River today.
Thanks! I just stumbled upon it after having little luck on the New River. (3 trips, 1 smallie. might go 1lb on a good day. lol.) So I went to Bluestone, a friend and I took the tram down to the bottom, and then hiked 4 miles towards the lake, and waded most of the way back. We've done that 2x now and both times caught excellent fish... These are definitely the bigger 2 so far, but it already seems quite promising. Obviously, this is an all-day event. Usually on a sunday.

Thanks! Pumpkinseed/chartreuse ZOOM Lizards, just pinch the head off, throw a jig head through them, so the ball is now the "head" and have at it. I don't need to be weedless where I fish... All rock-bottom streams with minimal grass/weeds.

- Motorola Droid X
Wow. Simon, it's definitely defective, mine doesn't do ANY of that, and I put mine through its paces pretty regularly... Good thing is you have 2 different ways to go. through the retailer you bought it from, AND through verizon via manufacturer's warranty. (There aren't any refurbs yet, I'd imagine, so you'd get a new one.) It's super simple, I'd definitely do it. Overnight shipping usually.- Motorola Droid X
haha, I'm the opposite. I barely use the phone to talk. more texting, email, and internet than you can shake a stick at though. That an pics. Here's an unmolested pic from the X that a friend took of a smallie I caught today. http://harryratliff.com/fishing/2010-07-25_14-15-25_577.jpg- Motorola Droid X
To me? No. the Droid was a little bulkier than I liked, and the main reason was that sliding keyboard. I LOVE the X because it's thin. Yes, it's a big ole' phone... But it doesn't take long to get used to, and it DEFINITELY fits in a pocket quite well, simply because it's so thin. The screen calibration stuff on Android doesn't really exist... I mean it does, but It's not something I've ever had to do, and I can't tell you how many android phones I've dealt with while working at verizon. lol. My Droid X just grabbed it's over-the-air update for little things they wanted to fix.- Senior pictures, with a fishing twist.
Maybe wear nice clothes in your school colors while fishing, or holding a nice sized one? Maybe make a hat covered in lures. lol. It's a cool idea though. I'm sure you'll find something.- Motorola Droid X
Between the original Motorola Droid, and the Droid X, you'll be hard pressed to find an unstable phone, unless it's defective. (My first Moto Droid was defective, free replacement next day, no worries.) I've seen the Incredible be pretty rough, but a lot of people love their Incredibles, and it's a nice phone too. It's probably "in between" the Droid and Droid X, but it also was in between them as far as release dates as well. lol. If you absolutely REQUIRE a physical keyboard, wait for the Droid 2. Same form factor as original droid, but better "guts." I forget the release date, but it's not far away. Month or two, if that. I'm sure it's on the internet somewhere. ...Lots of people are waiting on the iPhone to show up on Verizon. Many forget, that even with contractual bs aside, the iPhone was/is GSM, not CDMA... That all being said, here's an interesting link from last month: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/17/apple-cdma-iphone-4-rumor-given-new-wings/ Oh, and for the not-so-tech-savvy, GSM is the technology that AT&T, T-Mobile, and almost all carriers abroad use... (Uses Sim Cards) CDMA is what Verizon, Alltel, Nextel, (insert almost unending list here) use. They are NOT interchangeable, minus a handful of devices that do BOTH (Blackberry has a few that come to mind. "World" phones, as they call them, I believe.)- Motorola Droid X
Here's a panorama I did yesterday morning off the front porch at mom's house... The only think I did was shrink it... I have NOT photoshopped it at all, just resized. Basically, the original image is even better than this. lol. One amazing phone... The 2nd pic is of a peach at her house on the tree. (THIS WASN'T EVEN ON MACRO MODE.) lol. http://harryratliff.com/photos/panorama.jpg http://harryratliff.com/photos/peaches.jpg- Funny story. Thought I had my first trout EVER!
Guess they're not as uncommon as I thought... Definitely MY first though.- Funny story. Thought I had my first trout EVER!
Oh man, that's gotta be it... Never seen one before!- Funny story. Thought I had my first trout EVER!
Haha. poor guy, if he's a suckerfish, I'm not sure that swimming around with a hook and half a lizard hanging out is survivable... You think?- Funny story. Thought I had my first trout EVER!
So I pull one out of Wolf Creek this morning, which is a stocked trout area, but I don't fish WHERE they stock it, and instantly I think: "that's not a smallie! Must be my first trout!" So I ran for the camera, snapped a quick pic, and went to pull him off and let him go. *squeezes the body, getting ready to remove hook* "BURRRRRRRRRRRP!" "WHOA! WHOOOOAAAAA! WHAT WAS THAT?" Then the knot came loose and he fell back in... Thankfully, cuz I was shocked, the body was so soft I don't know how I'd have got him off... The FISH spooked the FISHERMAN. haha. So I was just like: "Wow, trout are really weird..." So, I continued fishing, caught a few more smallies here and there, and went home thinking I'd finally caught a trout. (Although I don't really TRY, I know lotsa guys pull 'em out without going for em.) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is a suckerfish. LOL. So I suppose I don't have a trout yet, but probably equally cool.- Habits for water clarity?
I haven't been fishing SERIOUSLY for long, but something I just noticed over last week... I fish Wolf Creek, a decent sized "creek" that widens in some spots to 20-30 yards or so... Anyhow, it's ALWAYS crystal clear, except for after rain... Well, I've noticed it's MUCH harder to catch them in cloudy water than clear. (when cloudy, it's GREEN, not brown, if that helps.) It seemed today that they were much shallower, and hiding in the rocks on the banks... I noticed one would come out of nowhere from under a random rock, slam the soft plastic, and dart right back under the rock. ...Is this normal? What do you do to "bring 'em out?" - Motorola Droid X
