  1. Another for the beetle spin or 2" curly tail grubs with a 1/8th head I like white the best for those.
  2. Avalon did kinda of nail it on the koppers it sorta sits a little higher then a spro its like nose up in the water. As for trimming the legs though I guess maybe it walks easier but I do it because I have watched to many fish just grab the legs and pull the bait down.
  3. That would of had to been one serious bite. Or maybe your just a limp wrist lol. I am just kidding though im sure your no wuss. That's one of the reason though I have really tried to step my game up using things like spinners and cranks I just love getting bites where they just smash the bait. It is more exciting to me then a little tiny tap tap on a jig or piece of plastic. Although I absolutely love jig fishing I consider it to be a highly skill full technique.
  4. Thanks for the info Sam. To answer all your questions at once yes yes yes. I have done everything all baits and retrieves all times if day I know every single inch of the pond I know like everything there is to really know it's my daily fisher. For some reason the fish in this pond just won't bite unless it's a soft plastic. It must just be something going on with this pond at the moment. Really I don't think any one would really have success if you tried throwing cranks and spinners right now. I think I just have to wait for them to change there pattern.
  5. I'm actually about to catch catfish and remove them from my pond. They compete with the bass for food at catfish eat a ton of the BG. there is quite a few 10 pounders and at atleast one i know of over 20. That's a lot of potential weight that could be used up for bass to get bigger. Also I believe BG is better to stock then RES because they spawn more then once per year.
  6. I trim both of them. I think they make the legs to long on frogs and sometimes the bass will grab there legs and pull them down so its impossible to catch them.
  7. It doesnt matter what time you use those baits it doesnt work there I have tried only soft plastics work. I guess the forage would be other small fish and frogs.
  8. Here is the issue im facing. What I CAN catch fish with and WANT to catch fish with are not the same thing. I can cruise around and pitch weightless plastics to pockets or what not and catch fish fine. But all I really want to do is catch fish on something that is moving. I have tried every lure I have and thats like every type of lure there is except maybe some specialty type lures. I have tried every type of retrieve and every thing but the fish are just laughing at me and are not buying what im selling. If I could just get a couple bites I would be happy but unless it is just sitting there they wont bite it. I went to another place threw a chatter bait and a crank bait and caught fish fine but the place I fish the most nothing works. I so want to just make a bunch of casts and cover a ton of water but I don't know what the deal is anymore.
  9. Well I read quite a bit of everyone tips on how to use a bait caster and personally I think I would teach some one entirely different. Free spool right out of the box brakes all the way and never use the tension knob. Start making lob casts with good casting baits like heavy lipless cranks, unless you snap the tip it is pretty hard to back lash it. I think using the tension knob when I first started taut me nothing. Rarely did I have to thumb it and when I did it was nothing really.
  10. I have both koppers and spro and I wold say the spro walks better but koppers walks good to. I like the koppers better because its softer and I seem to get more hook sets with it. I cut about 1" off of the legs to help my frogs walk a little better and I dont have any complaints yet about the koppers. I would say 90% of my bites when frogging come while it is sitting on the pause so it doesn't really seem to matter so much where I fish. Maybe if you constantly walk it 100% of the time a spro might be better. I mainly go about 1-2' at a time and pause or pause when I hit open pockets.
  11. I have not fly fished for a long time but for a period while I was a kid it was the only way I wanted to fish ponds. I knew a guy who use to tie me these water spiders that were just deadly. Smacking the surface with the spider and ripping it back and doing it again would start a feeding frenzy. Some time BG or little bass would grab it and when you went to pull it back it would like launch them out of the air at you. Fish would like literally be shoving each other out of the way to get the spider. I watched the guy who use to make them for me catch one that was easily 5# on those little spiders like the size of a quarter.
  12. I had the same thing happen to me once with a rapala stick bait. I caught about a 3# on the back hook (it has 3 hooks) went to unhook the fish and it slipped. The top hook burried it self in my thumb and then it started shaking around hanging in mid air by my thumb and from the shaking the middle hook also hooked part of my hand. The hook came out of my thumb alright because it shaking ripped a huge hole in it.
  13. That's like the best pond baits I have ever used. I will usually use a 1/16 or 1/8 head though and a 2" white grub. It will catch any thing big or small. Ive have caught several 5# or better on them when I was a kid.

I was thinking could throw multiple cranks with like some sort of modified crappie rig setup. The only issue I see is what about when you catch a fish? The trebles on the other crank are going to get all stuck in there face or something and I cant see that being a good thing at all. It might end up really hurting fish like getting a treble stuck in there eye or something. I really want to try 2 different size suspending jerk baits but I don't want to be mutilating the fish if I catch one.
  15. Yea there is cat fish for sure. I have caught multiple 10 pounders out of that pond and my brother caught one that was 20 or better. I can't imagine what a bite from a 20 pound cat fish would be like but I caught a 10 pounder on a Rat-L-Trap and it demolished my lure and ripped out the front treble it hit so hard. The rest I have caught on the pause so the bites don't even compare to when you have a fast moving bait with a tight line.

I think its called a double zulu or something. But I have only known people to throw tandem flukes. I am trying to find a way to throw 2 of everything. From what I have seen it really doesn't seem to hurt at all. I am pretty sure I can also throw 2 different weight spinners and make it work fine. Covering multiple depths at the same time seems like a bonus to me. Also I think it might help nail down what colors works best. I started throwing 2 different color worms caught 3 and missed one all on the purple and that was the back hook so I assume they saw the other one first but liked the purple better and that's the one they went for.
  17. I have 5 junky spinning reels I got from a flea market that I got for dirt cheap and I use them all the time. I have been hard up since since my gear was stolen this year so I just gotta make due. The fish don't seem to care how good or much my set up cost. The line I put on them costs more then I even paid for it but they keep catching fish so i'm in no rush to upgrade at the moment.
  18. Unless I am aiming at something I am trying to make the farthest cast I can every time. As for a T-rig I usually just git it a little hop or 2 and then let it sit sit sit I dont think you can ever work it to slow. Same thing with a C-rig but you just sweep it across the bottom. With jigs in cold water I might let it sit for minutes at a time before moving it. It seems like they will just stare it down for what seems like ever and I get so impatient and want to do something but the longer I can let it sit the better it is for me.

Well I tried it using just 2 weightless worms. I rigged the one on the main line with a heavier hook so maybe it would fall faster. I seemed to have no problems with it and i'm pretty sure it was definitely not hurting any thing. I was catching them like 3-1 on the front hook but I think that might be because they see that one first.

So I hooked up a double fluke rig today since I had never tried it. It was super cool just like I knew it would be but I only caught 3 fish on it. Then I got to thinking about what else I could use since I had this all rigged up. Next I tied on 2 senkos and put a screw in the tail of the one on my main line so it would sink faster. Worked like a champion. I never really have much luck with senkos except wacky rigging them for a drop shot bait. Today I caught like 30 fish with them on that setup. I dont know if they really wanted senkos today or that rig really helped but I like to think it did. Now I am thinking why cant I just double rig every soft plastic. Like peg a bullet weight to whatever is on your main line and leave the other line weightless. In theory I could hop a bait along the bottom and have the other one sorta floating up above it a foot or 2 weightless. Or use like 2 different baits and put the faster sinking one on the main line. I cant imagine I would be the first person to do this so has any one ever tried doing this with 2 different weighted baits or whatever at the same time. It seems like it should work great since it is 2 different fall rates and your sorta working at different depths at the same time.
  21. It was easily the hardest bite I have had all year. That's one reason I have not fished as much this year with soft plastics or any thing that is not constantly moving. I like getting good hits as much as just catching the fish.
  22. If it would of been just a normal bite I'm sure I would of caught it. But since I wasn't really watching my bait when it happened and it hitting so hard the rod literally popped out of my hand for a second. I have never had a fish knock a rod out of my hand before like that. Also adderoll is just like legal amphetamines for a person who doesn't need to take it.
  23. My step father uses berkley electric grape power worms with a split shot about 6-8" above it and ALWAYS catches fish it seems like no matter what. I refuse to use it since it is basically the only thing he will ever use. It might not work for every one but the places we fish it is like something with the purple and the split shot for the fall rate just kills them. He also rigs it on a off set hook but doesn't Texas rig it and just rigs a exposed hook so it is all bent up on the hook and not straight. He SWEARS to me it catches way more fish like that some times I get kinda annoyed at how many fish he catches and how stupid it looks. He has been doing this all year and just kills them with it everytime.
  24. Yesterday I was throwing a black Booyah Clacker Buzzbait along the edge of the weeds going along the bank. About half way through one of my casts I was sorta day dreaming just looking out around the lake not really paying attention to what I was doing and it got absolutely crushed. It hit so hard that it seemed like my heart skipped a beat cause I wasn't paying attention and it knocked the rod out of my hands. I ended up grabbing the front cork with my right hand before it hit the ground and tried to set the hook but no one was home of course. I ended up catching about 15 on the buzzbait in the 2# range but nothing was even close to that one huge hit. Either it was a massive fish or maybe the fish came from the other way at it hauling *** at top speed and hit it. Regardless of what it was I was so upset with my self and that's all I could think about for the rest of the day. Just a few days earlier I had the same thing happen while fishing a frog not paying attention while on the pause and a huge one launched it self out of the water at it and I totally missed it because I was not paying attention to what I was doing.
  25. Zoom is probably my #1 soft plastic they flat out catch fish. What can you really say about flukes and baby brush hogs they just slay the fish. When I do buy flukes though I kinda dig through the packs and try to find a pack where most of the tails are as straight as possible. Sometimes they will get bent in weird angles and I don't like that. I don't know if just cause the tail is bent all weird if it will catch less fish but its just kinda mental thing where I try to find the most perfect pack.
