21Lb Carp?! What Did I Do?
Wow man thats crazy! I have hooked 6-8 pound carp before on crappie jigs, but they were hooked in the mouth. Heck, last weekend I caught 2 drum on spinnerbaits. My guess is that your situation was a freak accident, but who knows!

Your Opinion On Bass Weight
This weekend I set a new PB at the strip pits and pulled in a HAWG. It measured 25 inches long and 15.8 inches in girth. We use a cheap Berkley digital scale, and it said the fish weighed 7lbs and 1oz. However, when I got home and looked at some of the estimation charts online, they estimate it to be 8-10 lbs. What do you guys think?

Topo Map Question
I have a dumb question, can you identify good points to fish on a topo map like that? And if so, which would be considered good ones? I'm not much of a lake fisherman. Thanks

My Bass Are Very Aggressive Nowadays
You should definitely wait a good 2-3 seconds before setting hook, that should solve your missed hooksets.

Fishing Strip Pits
We fish out of a 14ft jon boat with an electric trolling motor. We are thinking of purchasing a cheap fish finder so we can locate structure because it has been difficult to find the fish in the past.

Fishing Strip Pits
Late last summer my father and I joined a hunting/fishing club in Missouri and gained access to over 4000 acers of land that has 9 or 10 strip pits. I caught a 5lb 15oz late last summer out of the pits, that could have been about 6.5lbs if it wasnt so lean. I would love to hear everyone's opinions, experiences, and tips to fishing strip mines/pits. I have searched a lot on the internet, and there just isn't a whole lot of good info on pit fishing. I know these pits host big, big bass in them, and I am shooting for an 8, 9, or 10 lber this year.

baitcasting reels
I have always wondered this as well. I am right handed but my left handed dad taught me to fish. When I started out on a spinning reel, I reeled in with my right hand. So naturally when I got a baitcaster (with the handle on the right side) so I didn't have to switch up my retrieval.

How can you tell if a farm pond has any bass in it?
Bill I believe studies have shown that is a myth, the eggs cannot survive out of the water. Fish get in bodies of water by people placing them there and high water situations. I heave heard that Bullhead can, but never any other species of fish. For instance, i fished about an acre pond close to my house last year that had no other fish in it other that Bullhead. Now what would someone only stock a pond will Bullhead? :-?

Unless you can see a bass in the water, then there is no way to tell unless you fish it. If it has never been stocked then it is highly unlikely that it has bass in it.

Anyone ever create a good fishing spot?
Back when I lived in the DFW area of Texas, my dad and I lived about 80 yards down the street from a channel that ran into Lake Arlington. For three years straight, we tossed our xmas tree in a 3 different spots. Each location eventually turned into a Crappie magnet! Right around April we would do our best crappie fishing right around those trees. I'm sure building some cover for bass could yield the same results. Good luck!
