You know where to catch the big ones??
Me: "I'm going fishing" Dad: "got worms?" Me: "yeah, but I'm still going fishing"

What to throw when bass are busting shad??
I've had luck with Rattletraps in that situation. I just burn it through the panicked shad and it looks like another panicked shad that isn't schooling the best (vulnerable). That's my take on it, though I'm a little rusty

How's Your Summer Going?
Central VA. I just started fishing here, so I can't compare it to previous VA summers... but... Compared to my Midwest fishing, I am catching larger quantities of smaller fish. I attribute the size decrease to not knowing the area yet, and I attribute the number increase to learning about stick baits

live bait for pike
I was fishing with my dad the other day and he threw out some foot long suckers hooked lightly through the back on a river rig. He said he has caught nice bass on this setup, but this time he caught a nice fat 32 inch northern as well as some smaller ones. I was using medium minnows, but only catfish were interested

Albemarle county fishing, VA
Thanks! I really appreciate the help. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try these spots soon. Also, I'm not sure if you can call yourself old and feeble if you are hoofing it around hiking trails looking for fish to fight with

Albemarle county fishing, VA
Thanks Guys! I will have to check out Ragged Mt soon. Who doesn't like a good hike? I've been fishing Chris Green lately, with bad luck by the fishing pier, and decent luck off that point by the dam. So far everything has been small, but I saw a guy carry away a monster so I know they are in there.

shorebound fishing
While I'm certainly no expert, I fish from shore and have always had luck with plastic worms and floating rapalas. Plastic worms are nice because the can easily go through the shoreline weeds and can be presented lots of different ways. The rapalas are nice because you can twitch them on the surface for top water hits or cast and use a slow retrieve to get the lure under the water. I'm extremely new to senkos, but so far I like them for shore fishing. They cast really far for a plastic bait, and seem to work pretty well Good luck!

Addicted to the senko!!!
These things get you hooked fast. I tried them for the first time last night and they worked great! I didn't pull in anything huge, but I was pulling them in often Fishing them slow is strangely fun. Watching the line twitch slightly right before a hook set kind of reminds me of Jaws

favorite plastic company
Powerbait here. It gives my tackle box that wonderful aroma and gets me plenty of strikes.

Hi from central Virginia
Thanks for the welcome all. I noticed a lot of Virginia members too. I'm going to take that to mean there are lots of nice fish to catch here And as far as cheaper longer lasting alternatives to senkos... I'm all ears

Hi from central Virginia
Hi All, I fished 10 years in the Midwest before taking an extended break due to school and moving. Now I'm finally starting back up in Virginia. I have to say, these forums are full of great information, and have been really useful for coming back up to speed I mostly fish from shore in Albemarle county, and tend to throw Texas rigs, floating minnow lures, and lipless crank baits. Apparently senkos are where its at now, so I'll be giving those a try. Cheers, -Nern

Favorite Fishing Snack
Sausage and cheddar if ice fishing, pretzels and water if I'm in the summer sun.

Albemarle county fishing, VA
Hi All, I'm new to fishing the Albemarle area, and was wondering if anyone had any advice on shore fishing the county parks. So far I've been fishing Chris Greene and Walnut Creek, but will try the Rivanna River and Mint Springs at some point. Are there any lures or colors that work particularly well in these? -Thanks, Nern
