I'll have to check 'em out for sure. The Curado has gotten some good reviews, it seems like it'd be a pretty good option. What's the difference between the 200E and 300E, besides almost $100? The Core looks like a sweet reel too, but it might be just a tad out of my price range. I might have to give it a try anyway.

First of all, sorry if this has been brought up before. I tried a search but either I didn't search for the right thing, or it hasn't been discussed much yet. I haven't been using a baitcaster very long, but I'm already considering upgrading from my Daiwa Procaster Rojo, just to find out if the difference between a cheaper reel and a pro-level real is as great as the difference between rods is. Plus I feel like I need a better reel to match up with the G.Loomis I bought from my dad. I've been looking at a lot of options, and although I've always been a Shimano fan, the reviews seem to point to the Zillion as being the best option for a pro-level reel that wouldn't require me to sell a kidney to have the funding for. I know that the reel has a high gear ratio, and from my understanding, having a high gear ratio is like having a fast car: the speed is there when you need it, but you don't have to use it in situations that call for more moderation. Is that the right idea? I mostly throw T-rigs, but also will throw spinnerbaits, and will probably go to crankbaits when neither of those are working. I'm going to say at least 75% T-rigging, though. Is this a good choice for that type of fishing?

I haven't fished deep diving cranks much, but my best luck has been on gold shad colored cranks.

I'm pretty sure the Stradic models and Saros do. I'm not sure about the Sustain and Stella, but considering how much it costs to buy a spool for a Stella, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't come with a spare. I ordered a spare for my Symetre straight from Shimano, I think it was $25.

I have polarized Oakley Half Jacket XLJs and I really like them. I can't afford to lose them, so I bought a Cablz retainer from Tackle Warehouse, and it seems like it would work pretty well if they fell off. It's also handy for if it clouds up and I need to take my sunglasses off for awhile, because I can just hang them from my neck instead of leaving them on my cap and risk having them fly off and into the water.

Most of the tournament fishermen I know wouldn't do that sort of thing, even if a weekend fisherman was in their usual spot during a tournament.

I haven't tried it, but I would think that with a good hookset, as long as you retreived the fish steadily and didn't give it any slack you wouldn't lose the fish.

Out of all the $100-or-less rods people talk about on here, the Falcon Bucoo is the one that seems to get the best reviews.

Live bait is a no-no for me.

It's been about once every other year so far for me, but as much as I've been getting into fishing lately, that is definitely subject to change.

I'm starting to gain a lot of confidence in the Netbait paca craws. I tried a Zoom lizard this morning and didn't even get a strike, busted out a paca and caught 15 in an hour and a half.

Now that's a howitzer! Apparently they weren't kidding when they said that everything's bigger in Texas!

I saw them and wondered if they'd work as well, I definitely noticed the difference in price. I'll have to try 'em out. Senkos work pretty well drop-shotting around submerged tree stumps in the Missouri River when the water level is down.

Which lenses do you have in your new glasses? i think its these: http://www.smithoptics.com/Shelter_31_5.html?fl=flase the black/polar gray im not sure if its the polarization or just the lense (Carbonic TLT?) but ive never worn glasses anywhere close to anything like these. keep in mind these are only the 3rd pair of polarized ive tried, this color "pop" might be common with quality shades... What do they run, price-wise? I ride motocross so I've looked at their goggles and I know they're good quality and don't cost too much, so I'd imagine their shades are pretty reasonable too.

You can get Zoom baits pretty much anywhere that sells fishing stuff, too. I've gained a lot of confindence in the watermelon colored 5" lizards I bought at a local department store. If I run out (and oh yes, I will run out ;D) I can go get more dirt cheap.

I've had the best luck on the original Zipper worms. Other than that, I like Zoom and Netbait.

My brother had a Stratos. I'm not sure what model it was but it also had the 150HP V-Max. Wasn't the fastest on the lake, but it held its own. It was a nice boat, but unfortunately it wound up at the bottom of the Missouri River. :'(

A Daiwa Procaster Rojo would be a good choice. If you're looking at the Procasters, the Rojo would be the best option, and it's still well under $100.

That sounds like the way to go. It's nice to have a decent sized gas motor on the boat as well as a trolling motor. That way when you're on a good sized lake and/or you need to get to a certain spot in a hurry, you have that option. That also saves the batteries on the trolling motor. There are some lakes in Nebraska that prohibit the use of gas motors, and some of them are good sized lakes, so unless you have the capacity to carry at least 4 batteries on the boat you're stuck choosing between fishing a relatively small area all day or spending most of your time and battery power moving and getting very little time to fish.
