  1. I've kind of found this out recently myself. I'm newly returned to bass fishing after a long while away and Senkos are new to me. That shows how long it's been. I had a ton better luck T-rigging a senko weightless rather than weighted.
  2. Ordered some swim jigs. Thanks!
  3. Just wanted to follow up on this one. I'm in Davenport and they definitely did end up upgrading the selection at the West Davenport store. I haven't been in the Elmore location but I assume it's the same way. Vendettas, Vengeance, KVD rods, etc. They had a lot of stuff that wasn't there just a few months ago.
  4. Getting back into bass fishing this year after being away from it for awhile. This Saturday I went out and spent a little time walking around a local lake. I caught several dinks as the day wore on and then a nice one hit. I guessed 3.5-4lbs or so - that's an alright fish for Iowa. It's good to be back at it! I had forgotten how fun it is.

Anybody have any recommendations on what frog to buy? What frogs do you like?

  7. I definitely had more luck on my local lake with a little faster retrieve yesterday. It has quite a bit of pressure from what I can tell and the fish just seemed to respond to a slow retrieve instead of jigging yesterday. I've only fished this place a couple of times so we'll see if that ends up being the ticket in the long term.
  8. I went out and got one of the Carrot Stix PG 6'6" MH rods at the Gander Mountain sale recently. Yesterday was my first time using it and it worked flawlessly bringing in a 4lb'er and several other dinks. We'll see how it holds up over the long term. One thing I do not like about it is the bait/hook holder placement. It should have been above the reel somewhere. The thing is just designed poorly and yesterday I cut my left hand index finger on it while two-hand casting. This morning I went out into the garage and pulled the thing out with a pair of needle nose pliers. The rod is no worse for wear.
  9. A Daiwa something or 'nother. Not high end by any means but I have to hand it to those guys - they made a reel that could stand up to a teenager who put *zero* maintenance into his reel at the time.
  10. Remove old bearing, place new ceramic bearing in its place, put cover back on, done.
  11. Absolutely. Blame people who have little financial means and political capital vs. the organizations who have created dark derivatives markets that are 100% unregulated, and sold known faulty bundles of mortgages to pension funds, etc. and then bet against them. Makes sense.
  12. Use a little bit of black shrink wrap. Works just as well and is cheap. Pre-shrink a little strip of shrink wrap onto 4-5 senkos before you go out and that should be plenty. Do it because Guido says so...
  13. Giving the record to a fisherman who was unlicensed just emboldens others to do the same. Bad idea.
  14. I'm going to start hitting up Lake of the Hills and Railroad Lake in Davenport this year. Can anybody suggest any other good spots for public fishing around this area? I know there's a small lake/pond out near Mt. Joy Airport that doesn't seem heavily pressured.
  15. Picked one of these up yesterday! The store will price match the website.
  16. I did end up going back and price matching that Citica and grabbing up a 6'6" MH for a topwater rig. They price matched the website in-store so it was pretty slick.
  17. While browsing this particular deal I also saw that the Carrot Stix rods are about half-price on sale - http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=437088&pdesc=Element_21_Carrot_Stix_Professional_Grade_Casting_Rod_66_Medium&aID=504AB2&merchID=4006 I may get one of the 6'6" MH's for topwater at that price.
  18. I just bought one of those for $99 a couple weeks ago. Time to go back and get the difference.
  19. http://www.histackle...-phx-c683ml.htm It's the Phenix Recon 6'8" ML baitcasting rod and I'd be throwing probably 4" Senkos weightless wacky and, say, 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits - mostly. I'm starting to wonder if I should've just gotten the 7'1" MH.
  20. What's your opinion? Just getting back into bass fishing this year and accidentally bought a ML rod that is being shipped right now. Wondering if I'm going to have to return it for a MH.
