  1. I actually fished it while I was out there and other than the 7 3/4 pound fish that ate my Fat John, I caught all my crankbait fish on it
  2. I love a spinnerbait in shallow, weedy ponds right around spawning time. I hate fishing them but a Senko is a great bait for big bass around that time too. Pitch it around the edges of the weeds and into any holes in the weeds.
  3. It's always a great feeling to take something you read or see at home and apply it on the water and make it work, congrats.
  4. shakyhead, finesse tube with a very light internal weight, weightless wacky rig, split shot rig. Which one is most effective will depend on the conditions/location/fishes mood.
  5. Looks like you got it with the Cabela's guess. Didn't know they made any cranks like this thing. Good looking little bait. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Fishing/Hard-Baits/Crankbaits%7C/pc/104793480/c/104732280/sc/104284080/Cabelas-Fisherman-Series-Dig-It8482/738601.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Ffishing-hard-baits-crankbaits%2Fcabelas%2F_%2FN-1100320%2B1000002949%2FNe-1000002949%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104284080%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104793480%253Bcat104732280%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104793480%3Bcat104732280%3Bcat104284080

Spinnerbait blades or get a 3 arm one with spinnerbait blades on the arms.
  7. Guess you're right
  8. Found this little guy on the water yesterday. Not sure what brand it is but it's a nice looking little bait. Shown with a 1/2oz RES for scale. No writing anywhere on the bait to give me any kind of idea what brand it may be.
  9. I put the whole thing on swim jigs or spinnerbaits. It is big but it gets bigger bites.
  10. Took Cassidee out in the boat today at Douglas State Lake because it was way too nice to stay at home. Water was still really cold, colder than I'd hoped. It was 39.5 at the dam, 42.7 in the shallow water at the far north end. Fished a jerkbait and jigging spoon a little but the wind made it pretty hard to fish slowly enough. Got one little guy to play right off the big point in the main lake on a deep running Yo-Zuri jerkbait. Got to go for her first full speed boat ride today too, seemed to enjoy that quite a bit.
  11. I would but tomorrow is the start of the work week for me. I'll have to wait until Wednesday or Friday. Hopefully the weather will be better by then.
  12. Looks like a green sunfish with that big mouth and outlined pectoral fins. They're good aquarium fish but make sure you keep the entire top of the tank covered or it will jump out, even through holes you'd never think they could jump out. I use them for bait for flatheads and keep a few dozen of them in a 200 gallon tank and if I leave any kind of space for them to jump out at least a dozen of them will get it done every time.
  13. I use either 7' 3" or 7' 6" MH LTB with a 7.1 reel to help pick up line quickly on a long cast. I've used those fishing them 50-60 feet deep at Table Rock with no issues.
  14. I have a couple I throw in clear water or lakes where they see lots of trap baits. Also if I'm catching lots on a trap off a certain spot and they start to slow down I'll switch to one of them and often get a few more with it.
  15. My parents have a picture of me in diapers sitting on the bank holding a fishing pole the week before I turned 1. We mainly fished for catfish and crappie because money was really short so catching fish we could eat helped my parents stretch money a little further. Started fishing for bass when we moved to KC when I was 13 and got much more serious when I bought my first 2 man when I was 14.
  16. Good luck! What are you fishing for?
  17. No doubt about it, I was snagged at first. This lake is one of 2 or 3 lakes in the state that produces DD bass with any kind of regularity, so when I swing on something I keep pulling for at least a couple seconds to make sure even if I'm sure it's a snag. So when my bait stopped I swung on it and it didn't move for a couple seconds and hadn't moved by the first time I tried to pop it loose. My guess is that when I dropped the rod tip from the first pop it probably floated off the rock and she had been right there watching it wiggle and bang against the rock and then ate it as soon as it floated loose and next time I tried to pop the line it set the hook on her. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good
  18. Main thing is to find the baitfish. Most of the shad should still be pretty deep this time of year. You can fish it under deep docks in the boat stalls, off the end of points, or my personal favorite, bluff banks were the channel swings in close to the bank. On the bluff bank if the bluff has a channel that swings in and runs across a point then it's even better. Again, main thing is bait, no bait makes it a lot less effective.
  19. Did you get to Melvern today?
  20. Well my buddy Jon and I did pretty good at La Cygne today. Lots of fish I'd guess close to 40 maybe even more. Most of them were smaller, a couple that were over 16 maybe close to 18". Shakyheads, spinnerbaits, traps, jerkbaits, and cranks all caught their share of fish. The rock bank at the mouth of the river was by far our best area with the last point on the west side almost straight across from the outlet being our best spot,we fished it for probably an hour and caught fish for most of that time. We went down lake around noon but found the water was pretty chilly still so we ran over to hit the boat ramp area. Nothing going on, the wind was blowing pretty hard, and I got my Spro Fat John hung on the rocks. I was cruising up to get it loose and did the bowstring pop with no luck. Next time I went to do it it seemed like my line was moving towards the boat? Hard to tell with boat bucking so hard but then the line did start moving off! I figured a carp or catfish swam into my line until a big, bugeyed gal wallowed on top and shook her head. She pulled and pulled and pulled for the longest time and every time she came up I could see she only had 1 hook in the very tip of her bottom lip. Thankfully she stayed stuck and Jon got her in the net. 7.76lbs, 22" long and 17" around.

  22. The bridge across the river is one of my most dependable spots. Almost always one right at the base of the bridge every time. I like fishing rattling cranks because you can listen to them hit it.
  23. Jon and I will be at La Cygne
  24. I caught a largemouth over 6 on a Ned rig last year out of a pond and my buddies old PB was 5.5 on a Ned rig. Big largemouths will eat them too.
  25. Still catching fish on mine on a belly weighted swimbait hook. Still impressed with how many fish I can catch on a single bait. Quickly becoming my favorite non prerigged soft swimbait. Going to take some of the 3" ones to the White River in Arkansas the first week of April to toss at some big brown trout hopefully
