  1. you fishing the CNU tournament? try crankbaits run parrell to the shoreline along the drop offs. Weightless senko's work very well also along with finding balls of bait and fishing through them (although u may catch hybrids) lots of fish in this lake and the tunnel(cannal) is a hotspot where alot of decent fish go through. Also try the riprap on the far side of it alots of perch and bass hold along that
  2. the big bass we still under docks and piers when I fished my last tournament in Hampton. Cranks were working well to they are slowly moving to beds though so try some weed lines if you get the time. Also, you want to try out sandy bottom nature park. The lake you can fish hold some hogs and renting a boat is 15 bucks a day either way they are biting
  3. hey I moved from newport news to just outside richmond last year... check into ed allens/ eagles landing on chick lake you wont regret it although it can be a bit pricy. If you do want to drive to hampton roads there are some great cheap places to get a boat. Lake Maury (Mariners Museum lake) its 4 bucks an hour but you do need to bring a motor and battery (most places need this). Bethel Lake in Hampton is 7 an hour and this is my personal home lake. I have already caught a 8lber outa there so far this year. Harwoods mill is open on the weekends and has alot of nice fish in it. in williamsburg there is waller mill but it has been playing around with rates/ hours so check into their website. Across from chick lake is little creek. If you like striper fishing try this place out. There are also a crap ton of crappies here (been out some days with over 100 caught in an hour) the bass are good (lota 6lbers) and if you know what to do you can catch them. Lastly you could just find a fishing hole on the james. there are a few parks you can fish from and there are some good smallies in it. Anyways welcome to the state capital and good luck hunting
  4. bud it happenes I have zeroed tournaments but just keep plugging away. I was fishing a tournament this last weekend and nothing was going right. I only had one bite the entire day and that was an hour before weigh-in under the dock we had weigh-ins at. I was using a rental and found a leak just as I reached the back of the lake... I was ankle deep in water and it took me 30 mins to get back. I got back and switched out boats and stayed around the weigh in just to make sure that I didnt find another leak. Yea that one bite was an 8lb bass that won the entire tournament. It doesnt always end that way but it just shows keep on trying you never know whats going to happen.
  5. try shallow running crank baits along the rip rap ie. gravel senko/jigs around the rest of the shore if that doesn't work try trolling down the deeper sections with 8-12 ft cranks i have caught alot of stubborn bass doing that
  6. i have had alot of luck around the state park on the opposite shore fishing senkos and 4-8ft diving cranks
  7. fishing for the colleges is pretty hard. They start off with in club tournamnets and usually only the best of the best come from those. In regionals, if u place well you might get the chance to fish for nationals and there were 43 teams in this years championships. They knew where they were fishing the first two days but the last day was a complete surprise. Va tech (My Club) almost had it but had engine trouble and i don't think we would have won it anyway. The kids that did make it deserved it and now get to fish on a national scale.
  8. ok will do hopefully caught a lunker
  9. With it being winter and all any good tips for the chick? I know there is snow on the ground but I'm trying to go on Wednesday.
  10. Wow nice where were u fishing at? And btw that's a state citation
  11. welcome to BR I live on the peninsula so the chick is one of my favorite places to fish along with some local ponds gl fishing
  12. learn to fish deep lakes and docks eficently with at least a bass per outing
  13. There is one hosted by women that comes on MAV tv and also versus
  14. The is this lake near where I live that had bass like that. I would fish off a dock and these bass were smart, once you would catch a sunfish they would come out and kill it. It was fun to do it but i could never seem to get them to hist anything else but the live sunfish... those bass were easily over 6 pounds
