  1. I am a marshall for the upcoming pride of ga at west point, super excited. I do have a couple of questions for guys that have done it. 1) Do they provide you with a life preserver? 2) What did you pack for food/drink and where to put it? 3) Any thing else you took or wish you had taken? 4) Are there vendors set up at the tourny to buy stuff from (rods, reels)? 5) About what time did you get to the launch? Any other advice or info would be great. I'm staying at the camprground where the launch is, at least 10 other pros are too, rick clunn is my neighbor for the week!!!
  2. From what I can tell, everyone on here loves the Avids and the Savvy. Question is, if i've got $185.00, which would you buy to fish 3/8-1/2 jigs and worms? Leaning towards the savvy, have held the Avid, nowhere to hold the savvy so i'm just going off my trusty BR member's advice.
  3. Thanks for the info. That stinks. I'm a marshal coming up on West Point for Thursday & Friday and they said they would be training us to use BT, they really need to include the entire tournament.
  4. the last two tournaments haven't had basstrack available on the website to keep track of what's going on. I like to keep tabs of who's doing what. Anybody know what's going on?
  5. Heading down to the gulf the end of this month, can't wait to pull in some reds and trout on the calcutta. gonna shoot for some cobia too. i'm sure it will pass the test.
  6. I got my reels back from Mike at DVT. I sent 2 reels that had ceased up that were particularly important to me due to belonging to my brother who recently passed away. Mike wa able to get the reels up and going and work amazingly well. I also sent on of my calcuttas to him for super tuning, bearing and washer upgrades. The reels is simply amazing. I can thank Mike enough and if you need something done right and in a timely manner, DVT is the place, especially since BR members get a 10% discount. Thanks Mike for everything.
  7. suncloud by a mile. lifetime warranty, really good visibility, i've had mine over 2 years which is a record for me. the nosepads were coming off the other day, called them up, sent me new ones in 2 days.
  8. Probably poor wording on my part as far as the "fish 5 places and go home". I can actually only fish partof the lake due to that pesky trespassing law. So i fish where i can, when i can. I do have a newborn so fishing all day is kind of out of the question. The spots I do fish definitely hold fish, i just can't get them to bite after a while.
  9. Crestliner, I modified my post above to answer your questions, thanks for the help.
  10. I fish it from the shore. I fish year round so the temps vary from 40 degrees in winter, 80 degrees in the summer. This is a year round issue. The deepest part is about 14-16 feet. I've fished everything, senkos, crainkbaits, jigs, lizards, spinnerbaits (never bit), drop shot, i've done it all. The lake is not heavily fished. I've got 2 brush piles i sank that i can get a bite out of, fished with a jig getting an idea of what's on the bottom and there doesn't seem to be much there, just a muddy bottom with a few rocks. There is a good bream population, tried lures mimicking bream but that doesn't work either. I usually fish the last hour or so before dark. I ripped red eye shads looking for reaction bites, and creeped baits slow trying to pick them off, all on different lines. It's amazing, then i see a kid catch a 4 pounder on a piece of bread, you talk about frustrating! I've pretty much got about 5 areas i try that i've caught bass, if i don't catch any there, i go home. >
  11. I fish a 2 acre pond in my neighborhood frequently. There are plenty of good bass in it, even 10 pounders. The problem is, the fish will not bite! When i first moved in, i would catch a few good ones, then it was like they got used to seeing the lures. I switch to a lure they've never seen, they bite for about a week, then stop. I'm lucky to catch 1 bass each time fishing. The like has little cover and little structure. I fish from the deepest to the shallowest and nothing. Any help?
  12. For my braid setups, I use strictly Shimano Calcuttas, the 200b and 150 specifically. I use these for bass and all of my saltwater applications as well. No problems whatsoever, best money I ever spent.
  13. got my notifcation in the mail i was picked to be a marshal for the Pride of GA at West Point. Pretty excited and hope to learn a lot.
  14. DVT, I sent you an email with pix, hopefully you can open, they are from my blackberry. Thanks for your help.
  15. Ok, the reels is a diawa regal 2000xi. It is actually a really smooth real. I took the handle apart last night. i tried to attach the 2 pics but the site won't let me attach them. I could email the pics directly to anyone who thinks they might be able to help me. When it is engaged, the pinion drops down onto the gear. I think the question is, is the spiral thing the gear surrounds supposed to rotate. i appears that they might be ceased together. I hope that makes sense. I am by no means a reel mechanic, just trying to get my brother's reels operational. thanks for any help.
  16. They are Diawa, don't have them with me to tell you the model.
  17. Yes, the reel is underneath and is being turned in the correct position. These were my brother's who just passed away and I got his fishing gear, we were both avid fishermen. The last time he used his was we were fishing in saltwater, he washed them well, but something happened. I took the spool off last night and there was no corrosion, going to open up the frame tonight. They work flawlessly until the AR is engaged. I really would like to get these working for sentimental value.
  18. I've got 2 spinning reels that reel flawlessly when anti-reverse is not engaged. As soon as i flip the ani-revers switch on the rear of the reel, the reel won't budge, like it is ceased up. Any suggestions?
  19. don't hear many people on hear talking about the Heliums or Kistler in general. I've got a contact that can get them 1/2 price, never used one, will be used for jig fishing as I am looking for a super sensitive rod. Thoughts?
  20. ok,, ill try and pull some line with the spool out, check washers etc. ive never replaced tghe drag on a reel. hopefully, it will be the line slipping. i guess i need to put some mono backing or friction tape.
  21. I bought another Calcutta Baitcaster that was used but in good shape. I spooled it up with braid, used electrical tape backing. I set the hook on a good fish, but when i tried to reel it in, it was slipping. I tightened the drag down all the way and if i pull hard on the line, i can pull some line out. Do i need to replace the drag or is the braid slipping?
  22. Thanks for th input guys. I've never run across a powell, the local tackle store doesn't have them. The ones in the "flea market" are heavy and i think i want MH. Ill keep shopping and testing. Keep the input coming.
  23. Shimano Calcutta, hands down. Super smooth and definitely strong and will last forever.
  24. I hate to add another rod question but after all my research, i'm just not decided. I'm looking for the most sensitive rod for jig/worm fishing, like to keep it under $125.00. I have the Mojo and don't think it's that sensitive. Have a Falcon Lowrider, seems pretty sensitive. The Veritas sounds like it is sensitive, Bucco, compre, any help would be great.
