I got some other stuff with this order to do repairs and mods to a friends rod he wants abalone on his vendetta so I'll knock that out while waiting for new grips

Yeah the decal was a little bigger then I thought when it said 1x1 it's more like 1.5x3. Think I'm going to save it and the grips for a different build and put this on hold till I get paid Wednesday and over night some parts out. Just goes with that learning curve of starting to build. This will be my first full size build and not ice rods. This also gives me time to practice my tiger wrap on a old arrow shaft and a jtob wrap I was gonna dress the hook keeper wrap with.

Well my much awaited package from mudhole was waiting for me this morning with my next build components. This ones a MHX 7' light action rod S842. Then I did the microwave guides, project x two tone seat in phantom black. I'm gonna attempt a tiger wrap as well on it. The part I'm disappointed in is the Winn grips. They feel so cheap and cruddy I don't like them and feel they arnt worth the almost $30 for them. Which puts me in a bit of a bind because I'm kinda on a dead line for this build needs to be done by next Friday and this weekend I'm at drill all weekend. I'm probably just gonna have to use the grips and learn to like them. Few questions on them though. Can I turn them down so they fit inside the real seat? Other then the grips I'm excited to do another build I'm sure the winns will grow on me they just feel cheap and are kinda small.

I'll be out tomorrow in johnsons creek just can't decide if I'm gonna go by the mouth of Lake Ontario for the mixed bag or above the dam in still water for bass. That or both the little lakes by me are ice free and giving up bass but I'm to lazy to paddle the distance to get to them.

I just started going there last year I got a few smallies and a bunch of white bass. Had a musky chase a lure in but never bit.

We went out for smelt this evening at art park still early water was COLD and I discovered I have a hole in my waders

Both glennwood and alice are thawed here in Orleans county I've been out every Monday for te last three weeks. No fish yet but I seen a guy at the gas station Monday pulling his boat and heard him talking inside the store that he was headed to alice so I chatted with him he said glennwood was hot Sunday boated a couple 3# largemouth and to many smallies to count and keep track of. I've only caught one fish this year about a month ago and it was a steel head on my drop shot set up converted to drift set up for trout till the lakes open up.

Ice is off most the lakes here in wny now seen a guy monday on one of the local lakes hammering bass on square bills.

Been wanting to get into it in hoping to get a blue tick beagle soon the gfs sister has one and bred her about a month ago so hopefully. I run hounds for fox and coyotes occasionally though

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago when my GF and her son met me at the river while I was fishing. Her son was begging to fish and I had two set ups with me and she said " why can't he use that one" pointing to my revo preimer bc on my 7'1" villain rod with a pointer tied on. I chuckled and said no that there are grown men who can't use them reels and her 6 year old was not to touch it. So then came the "ok use the one your using" and after a a little debate and me saying I have to cast it then I'll hand it to the little guy we agreed and I casted for him and handed it over. Now he's using my spinning outfit which was a veritas with a premier spinning on it and I was drifting nipper jigs for trout so when I handed it to him I had the bail open. Well he slams the bail shut using the handle which made me cringe then starting from the second guide from the tip smashed every guide down to the reel across the railing they have at this spot to keep people out of the water. I just about jumped out of my skin. Didn't yell didn't freak out politely asked for my pole explained what NOT to do and casted it again for him. Little guy was happy gf was happy I was less then thrilled. Standing there she made a comment and some how the value of said rods and reels and the pointer came up and she looked at me and said " well you don't have to fish that way or buy that kind of stuff" partially correct in the fact I don't HAVE to to buy high end equipment but I like it and I provide for my family and our family(since I live with her now and we're having a kid together) bills all get paid and I bust my arse at work I can afford things for her and myself so I buy nice equipment. But she got the look and she knew I wasn't gonna give up my fishing habits and I to explained sorta like Glenn did that it's in my blood the spot we were at was behind my parents old house when they were together my dad had me there fishing at 6Mo with a snoopy pole tucked in my stroller with me so it's pretty much safe to say I've been fishing my whole life and i won't stop till I'm dead....maybe Then I told her a big fat windy when I said "plus babe I build my rods now remember so I don't have to buy these expensive rods I just build custom ones to save money" she bought it idk how considering she got me the rod building start up kit and has seen the bill for some of the builds I've done lol.

Well I ant answer on catching a fish on a rod you have built because I've yet to catch one on a rod I built but with three rods under my belt and plans for many more I can answer that yes it is very addicting.
