  1. Can you explain what you mean by a "meat rig." Thanks for the info!!!
  2. I will make sure to pick some of these up. Thanks everyone for you your help on this.
  3. I am heading to Mullet and Burt lakes. How do you fish a fat ika? Do you hop it, slowly drag it, fish it on a football jig, texas rig, etc. Keep in mind I don't have any experience with these types of lures so the more information the better. Thanks for your help.
  4. Just received an email from www.ohya.com that they were selling citca e series reels for $94 and curados for $133.95 with free shipping. If you can stretch for another $30 I would definitely pick up the curado. I am a pretty frugal guy when it comes to buying equipment and I decided to indulge and go with something that was really nice. With the curado I have not been disappointed at all, and has made me a believer in the statement that you get what you pay for. I bought a curado from ohya last year and they are legit. You will not be disappointed. Getting a $170 reel for $133 is a really good deal and you will be able to keep it for many years with proper care. I am sure the citca is nice as well.
  5. Great fish!!! Big fish like that puts up a heck of a fight. Your ruined now!!! Did you get to weigh it? How much did it weigh?
  6. I am going to a northern Michigan lake in August that is very clear to fish for smallmouth. On a calm sunny day you can see bottom in 12 feet of water. Mostly will be fishing rocky points and humps, but there will also be some shallower weeds and also deep weed pockets in 15-20 ft of water. I have been going to this lake most of my life, but have always used live bait in the past. I am wanting to start using artificial baits instead. I could use some help on the following questions... 1. What color would you use? 2. What brand do you prefer? 3. What technique when fishing a grub would you use in a lake like this? I have never fished with grubs before so any help would be appreciated!! Thanks everyone!!
  7. Curados are great!! Got my first one this year and love it! Won't go back to anything else!!
  8. Curado E7 all the way. Bought mine on ebay for $139 brand new. That reel is so smooth, casts a mile, and can be set to hardly ever backlash. I used to use my baitcasting rods for spinnerbaits and cranks only. But I like that reel so much I find myself using it for other applications as well. I hear you can buy different gears to make it into a 6.3 for pretty cheap.
  9. Last night I had the same situation. Bass sitting on a bed and I threw everything at it. No bite. Even with a wacky rigged senko with normal retrieve of hopping it up and letting it fall still nothing. Finally I varied my retrieve to just pumping my rod tip/line slightly so the ends would vibrate but the worm just stayed stationary for the most part. Did that for about 15-20 seconds before anything happened but sure enough the senko was too much for it. A lot of fun seeing a bass slowly creep toward your line and then gobble it up. Good luck!
  10. Good. Sounds like I am getting something that will be helpful in getting me closer to staying on the fish. I appreciate everyone's replies. Thanks a bunch. RoLo, I would be interested in hearing some of the theories that you alluded to that have been disproven and are there books, links, articles, etc that you would suggest reading that have this info in them?
  11. First time posting here so hope I do this right. In reading some of the posts on here Buck Perry's name has been brought up in regards to being the best source of information on learning to read structure. Has anyone ordered his home study course. I looked for his video series but it is out of production. So it seems the next best thing is this course. It looks pretty interesting. I just ordered it on his homepage and I hope I did not waste my money.
