  1. Looks like a good deal to me. If everything works and the motor runs or just needs a tune up then its a great deal! I know those old johnson motors are good motors my dad has an 84 140hp johnson and it still runs and is as strong as the day he bought it. Although they do smoke alot when you first crank them.
  2. Yeah it will be a good boat! One of my fishing buddies has a older 1542 alumcraft jon boat that we fish out of a lot and its stable enough for the two of use to stand and fish in all day. Its just a plain jon boat with no decks or anything but i think i would be fine for decks or a floor.
  3. It depends on how deep the water is that your are going to be running in. I have had both a deep v-hull and a flat bottom boat. imo, if the water is going to be less then 3-4 feet I would go with the flat bottom. However, the flat bottom will not do as well in the choppy water as the deep V will but the falt bottom is a more versatile boat over all. One thing to think about if how the water level in the river, and how much it changes through the year. I dont know about up north but down south rivers can get real shallow in the heat of the summer or of course in times of little rain. Good luck with your choice!
  4. WOW!! Now thats a jon boat! Great job, one of the best i have ever seen.
  5. My first choice would be a ranger but rangers do hold there value very well so will be a higher priced than other brands. My second choice would be as others have said a stratos. Stratos builds a great boat and are in imo the best value on the water. Just find the boat that fits your needs and buget! Good luck!
  6. One of my fishing partners is looking to up grade the motor on his 15' jon boat. He has decided on a four stroke and has it narrowed down to a Yamaha or a Honda. I have an 8hp Honda, so naturally I told him Honda. However, I have herd good things about the new Yamahas. Anyone run a Yamaha or have any suggestions.
  7. I have been looking for a couple of months now at different small boat options for fishing small lakes and the French broad river for small mouth. After reading about some of the jon boat conversions, post on this site and others, I thought that was the way I was going to go. However today I saw a Riverhawk boat online that was much different than anything I have been looking at. Here is the link to where I found it http://www.boatingatlanta.com/riverhawk1.htmI am looking at the 15 foot B-60 pro caster. Does anyone have a Riverhawk boat or ever fished out of one. How stable are they? Are they good boats? Does this look like would be a good boat for small lake fishing? Thanks for the help!
  8. Good luck with the boat! I may self am a college student and 3 years ago had the same problem you have. I got a small 12' aluminum v-hull boat and an 8hp motor and still fish out of it today. You can take your boat with you to college! After my first semester at college I had a friend how lived near campus a let me store my boat there for free. Greatest thing I could have done. Having the boat there and being able to get out on the water when i had a spare min help me greatly in getting through college. Good luck with the boat and with college!
  9. I have a ford ranger with a 3.0 V6 that i have pulled my aluminum v-hull with for the past 3 years. Wroks great and have had no problems. As said above just make sure to stay on the ramp because if you drop of the side or the back in low water times it can be hard to pull out.
  10. I have found a couple of jon boats that i think might be what im looking for. I am looking at a lowe 1440M and a waco c-14 http://www.wacomfg.com/2006line/WacoBoats/P9C14-C16Crappie.asp the waco is advertised as a crappie boat but looks like it might make a good bass boat as well. Both have a seni-v front which i like or choppy days. Any one have any experience with these boats or any recommendations on which would make the better boat.
  11. hey, Im new to this site and it looks like a great place to find a lot of info and help on anything to do with fishing. I currently own a 12' v-hull gamefisher boat with an 8hp honda four-stroke on it. Its a great boat but im looking for something in the 14'-15' range to give me more room. I want something light enough to use my 8hp on because i love that little motor. I fish mostly small lakes but want a boat that can handle a small chop if needed. Any ideas would be a great help!
