Reason is that the angle of line departure during the cast on a wide spool will cause intermittent backlashes. Therefore the line guide follows the line while it is unloading from the spool during the outcast to stop this steep angle from becoming a problem. Most people will use a lagre-capacity, wide-spool baitcaster w/ the non-disengaging levelwind to fish live- or cut bait. If u cast and retrieve a reel like this consistently, it can cause premature failure of the (usually) plastic gear which moves the line guide, usually in the palm-side plate of the reel. Remember, even if u sever half of the individual threads in a braid, it is still twice as strong as mono of the same diameter (most braid is 3-4x stronger than mono of equal diameter). Braid is fine even in rocks. Just be sure to scrutinize the 1st few feet of your line and your knot often. I did this anyway, no matter what type of structure I was fishing, long before I started using braid.

I've thrown a 1/16 oz. crappie jig w/ my Alphas Type F on 10 lb. braid. It was mounted on a custom rod built on a 7 ft. light/moderateSC-III St Croix blank. But to be fair, it has dry ceramic hybrid ABEC 9's for the spool bearings and the spool is a red I'ze spool. I can throw a weightless senko about 80 ft. w/ that reel, of course on a different rod! But none of this was into the wind", to quote another poster here.

This may be a dumb question, but is the little white plastic pad missing from the inside of your side plate? It is there to keep that spring in alignment. It just acts as a positioner. I just had a similar problem w/ a TD-Z100M. I have lost that pad (then I lost the spring because it shot out and is nowhere to be found). I just ordered a pad and spring from Daiwa yesterday.
