  1. I lost count. Did well overall except in my local pond/lake. There, things have been rough-not nearly as many bigger bass and fewer bass, on average, than previous years. Even the bluegill population was waaay down. Most lakes have good and bad years. I hope it's just part of the natural cycle.
  2. Besides rejoice? The water temps won't be that warm again around here until April. You might slow down your presentation/retrieve speed a bit but otherwise, fish will be fairly active in 60 degree water. Look for shallow bays and stained water where the water might be a little warmer but, again, 60 degree water isn't so bad. Now if it plummetted 10 degrees because of a major cold front, that's a different issue.
  3. When your folks can legally and arbitrarily kick you out of the house.
  4. If you knew it was mislabled, regardless of whether you could get away with it or not, you stole it.
  5. Don't let the big name schools fool you. A lot of universities and most research institutions will have TA's teaching your classes rather than folks already holding (usually) Masters degree's-which is usually the case with community colleges. Plus, community colleges are a lot cheaper.
  6. Emergency! Everybody to get from street!
  7. There is a plus side to all this (no pun intended). If they do throw themselves on a grenade, they'll be an effective shield.
  8. Hmmm.. I bet you're a hit at parties, too.
  9. It wasn't my last cast but close to it. I'd fished most of the morning and afternoon without a bite and I was tired. I said, if I didn't catch a fish within 5 casts, I was leaving. On the 4th cast I caught a nice hefty bass. And then two casts later, I caught another. So I stayed for another 2 hours.
  10. If there was a golden lure or technique that worked all the time, a lot of fishermen would no longer bother. As in the case of cold fronts, we often can't really know why fish change-only that they do. Likewise, we can, based on personal experience and lessons from others, make some pretty good guesses about what those changes are and how to adapt. But who really knows why a bass will throw itself at just about anything with wild abandon one minute and 2 hours later, refuse to eat even live bait.
  11. I don't speak for Bronzeback 67 but if I were being called a "tool" and "snitch" I'd feel compelled to defend my position too. IMO, these situations have to be treated seriously. Otherwise, the climate becomes one where anyone can suggest any sort of impropriety and then dodge any culpability by saying "I was only joking." In a major tournament where serious money is changing hands, there has to be some internal, self-regulating system in place. Otherwise, cheating would become the norm. Saying "I was merely joking" doesn't cut it.
  12. I didn't read the entire thread from beginning to end but it sounds like, in essence, you'd be renting from your father-in-law. Unless there's something in the contract that says the money ultimately goes toward purchasing the home, you won't have anything to show for it in the end. I wouldn't do business with in-laws.
  13. I once fished with a guy who liked to musky fish. He would cast his big musky baits a looooong distance and plunk them down right in front of where bank fishermen were situtated. One of the bank fishermen read him the riot act and I just smiled. I don't fish with him anymore.
  14. There are always exceptions to every rule but generally speaking, no,it's not your best bet. As someone (I can't remember who) recently said, don't fish your memories. Fish in the present.
  15. Here is a case where something arises spontaneously/indepependently from two separate sources. I use this set up too (with some minor differences) and thought I'd "invented it." Lol. It is more weedless and unlike premade jigs, you can use any combination of skirt color and soft plastic. Plus, when you do lose one, it' isn't quite as expensive.
  16. What kind of line are you using? If it's braid and you don't want to switch to a slower action rod, switch to monofilament line with a little stretch to it.
  17. The other two fishermen laugh like annoying orange.
  18. I've never had my cat kicked in the ribs so I don't know what that feels like but yes, it does sting to lose a good bait. I've been there. It's all part of the game, though. I lose a lot less baits now that I have a boat HOWEVER boat and trailer repairs and gas $ to pull the darn thing (not to mention the cost of the truck itself and insurance) far exceeds the cost of a few lost baits.
  19. Both have their place. 90% of the time if I'm on my boat, I use a baitcaster. But if I'm fishing trees or bushes and the bass seem to be holding tight to the inside, I switch to my spinning outfitso I can more easily get my jig or worm to fall straight down (rather than swinging pendulum-style toward the boat). If I'm wading a river for smallmouth with light spinners or jigs, etc, I find a spinning rod/reel with mono irreplaceable.
  20. About my earliest recollections of my addiction was when I was in middle school. One of the local towns (of no more than 600 residents) had a small grocery store where, if we ran out of milk or bread, I would accompany my mom to resupply those items before going to the "big city" for our regular shopping later in the month. Near the counter of this store and amongst the aptly named impulse items-calling to me like a siren-was a fairly modest rack of fishing lures for sale- Yellowing cards of Mepps Aglia's, a few Creme worms, and some Beetle Spins. A few Rebel Pop R's and Bomber baits. I think I remember a couple packages of Manns Jelly worms and some Tube Worms. Not much else. Money was scarce then but sometimes, if I'd made some money mowing lawns or walking beans, I would purchase something. On the car ride home I would unwrap it and handle it like a woman might fondle a string of pearls. In those days the bait monkey wasn't much larger than a young chimp but he tugged insistently on my shirt sleeve even then. Little did I know he would follow me to college and eventually grow to the dimensions and appetite of King Kong.
  21. If I'm with someone else, I talk with them. If I'm by myself, I talk to the voices in my head. Sometimes the distinction is very fuzzy.
  22. The only thing you did "wrong" was in not figuring out a way to have this so called "pro" get busted.
  23. So, why do you answer the phone? If there's an emergency, that's what 911 is for. I don't know what percentage of your free time is spent on yourself and what percentage is spent on your spouse and family. But everyone needs time to themselves. ASSUMING you are an attentive and responsible husband and dad, she needs to chill out. You can't make her chill out but you can assert some boundaries. Oh, and make sure she takes her meds.
  24. This Ipad won't get a virus but it might get termites.
