Why Anti Reverse
Hey all, I did a search on Anti Reverse and found many many forum emails but what I'd like to know is why use Anti Reverse. I've got about 1/2 dozen spinning reels and have never used it. I guess I may be missing something but how does AR work and why would you use it? Thanks for replies to this newbie

Thinking about making my own soft plastics
Try Netcraft; their stuff seems to be reasonably priced. I have some of their hand poured worm molds and they work great. Going to ask "Santa" for injection molds. Hand poured take way to long, melt plastisol, pour, wait for it to harden, unscrew and pull mold apart. It's fun and I've caught some decent bass but it's a hobby only.

Burke Lake Snakehead
For Logan S: Agree with almost everything you said except "Fish for them there and leave them there" Fish for them there and get them out of there. DNR asks that if you catch one, kill it and I agree.

Burke Lake Snakehead
Caught this one today. Didn't know there were snakeheads at Burke but if they're at Burke soon they'll be at Huntsman and Mercer (if not there already). Too bad, we need to catch 'em and get them out of these lakes.

Shipping your rods - WARNING!!!!!!!!
I've been shipping rods to N. Wisconsin every summer for almost 10 years; this is the first year I've had issues. I had a plastic Plano (maybe PVC) rod shipping container that would hold 5-6 rods. After years of shipping the top came off and two rod tips broke. I've always shipped UPS and didn't have an issue until this year. Not blaming them just one of those things. They did the best repair job they could; lots of cardboard and shipping tape. Just bought a new shipping container on Amazon for about $57, well worth the price.

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
Just returned from Huntsman Lake; didn't expect a lot and I was surprised when I landed a pound to pound and a half large mouth just off the rocks at the dam end of the lake. Didn't take a camera; why would I? Anyway there are bass in Huntsman!!

Brazil Trip For Peacock Bass And Whatever Else Bites
Hey all: Got a trip back to the Amazon (7th trip for me) and had two fellow anglers drop out. 3-12 November cost is approximately $6,000 (that includes everything, flights, meals, gear). If interested reply back to this message and I'll get in contact with you. Ron

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
What's going on at Mercer? Over the last 3 weeks to Month I've been lucky to catch one small dink. I understood that the Park Service moved fish from Huntsman over to Mercer so there should be more fish to catch than fewer. Is anyone having any luck at Mercer? I've tried all the "secret" spots both from a kayak and from shore; tried plastic worms, shallow running cranks, top water, everything I can think of and no bites.

Which Kayak
Everyone: Thanks for all the input; I'm looking primarily at the Pro 12; the one that came out earlier this year. There's a retailer in Annapolis that has models you can try out which I plan on doing. If I do purchase one (and I'm fairly certain I will) does anybody have suggestions a top mount. I have a Toyota Sienna (with no trailer hitch) so the kayak will have to carried on top of the car. I've seen what appear to be some decent car top carriers. Anybody use a particular model they especially like or dislike? Again thanks for all the input so far.

Which Kayak
I'm 99% sure I'm getting a kayak later this spring; question is which one? I'm strongly leaning in favor of a Hobie. Reviewing all the postings, reviews and other literature the only downside I can see to the Hobie is cost; they are expensive. Any owners of Hobie have any other downside to them? How easy/difficult is putting in and removing the pedals. The lakes I'll use are very shallow until 30 or 40 yards from shore and I'll probably have to paddle out that far before I can put in the fins/pedal. Any comments either positive or negative on Hobies would be appreciated. Thanks all and tight lines.

An Open Letter
I realize that the "person" who this is addressed to probably isn't a member of this prestigious group but I'm hoping he might have a fiend or co-worker who is Dear Jerk: Today I pulled approximatly 40 yards of fishing line you left in bushes/trees and water at Lake Mercer. I also pulled off the small bluegill (dead) that was at the end of the line you left. If I could pull it off the limbs and roll it up to throw away then you certaintly could. People who use the trail sometimes complain to me about the trash "fishermen" leave. I explain to them that fishermen don't leave trash we want to have the water at least as good (if not better) the next time we use it. Trash is left by people who don't care and are not indicative of how fishermen treat the waters they fish on. So the next time you have a "professional overrun" or whatever caused you to leave so much line please do us all a favor and pick up after yourself. I realize you probably won't but it sure makes me feel better to say it.

Heading To Hayward Wisconsin
King Midas: I'll be in Cable WI, about 7 miles north of Hayward in August. We've been going to that area every summer for almost 20 years. Great area and so many lakes to fish it would be impossible to list/fish them all. As for Guides; do an internet search for Hayward fishing guides; there are many and they are all good. We fish Lake Owen which has Small and Large Mouths, Northern Pike and Walleye. Without Muskie it's almost off the radar screen for that area. Almost everyone that fishes goes for Muskie. Good luck up in the North Country.

Mercer Yesterday
Spent almost 3 hours at Mercer yesterday afternoon and managed to land 13 bass. Biggest was just over 12" with the four smallest at 8", everything else was in-between. Fish were easy to catch as they were under schools of baitfish that were all over the lake. Just had to wait till a bass busted up a school and throw an *** (4" unweighted or 5" weighted) into the school and just about every cast brought up a fish. It was a BLAST!!

Gut-Hooked Fish: Pull It Out Or Leave It In????
I have used this technique and it absolutely works as described. Best piece of advice I've seen in a long time.

Hobie Kayak
I'm seriously thinking of buying a Hobie but would like to hear from any owners out there both good and bad reviews. Probably going for the 10 foot (can't remember the model name) the 12 foot fishing machine is just too big (I think). This would be my first Kayak; I know they're expensive for a Kayak. I've heard some folks say they may not be as stable as advertised. Any reviews would be helpful, thanks,

Scales
X-Tools scale which I really like. No hooks just plier like grip to hold fish while it digitally displays weight.

Smelly Jelly
I've used Smelly Jelly for years both the crawfish (orange) and baitfish (green). both seem to do well; heard good things about Megastrike but haven't tried it yet
