Two Weeks Of Nothing And Then....
got 'em on a terminator spinnerbait; not sure of size, charteuse and white. I think I might have hit him in the head cause the strike was almost immediately after the lure started sinking. First thought I snagged a log but then the line started moving and I knew it was a nice fish.

Two Weeks Of Nothing And Then....
Went two full weeks of getting small bites and then yesterday at Mercer got this 4 lber (OK the scale says 3-14 but us fishermen it's 4 lbs). Finally broke the drought; hope it continues.

Patterns For Peacock Bass
I am not an expert on FL peacock; been to Brazil 4 times so I think I have some knowledge of peacocks. Basically the bigger and noiser the lure the better. They are very aggressive and will strike at anything they feel comes into their terrority. You can do an internet search for peacock bass lures and will disover there are many different brands. Basically I think you can do good with two basic types; topwater and jigs. Ultimate peacock bass jigs has a good selection; you're looking for something 6-8 inches in length with lots of color/sparkle. Top waters you want noisy with lots of splash; Highroller lures are probably one of the better known brands but as you search you'll find others. Maybe somebody from FL can give you more specific information on what works for them. If the biggest you're probably going to catch is 6 lbs then you can probably get away with Zara Spooks and similiar type lures. I'd suggest top waters anytime it's overcast or not directly sunny; if sunny go to jigs.

Lake Royal Va
Hey NOVA guys, need some help. I've never fished Lake Royal but just heard some good things about it and was wondering if you have to get to the lake by going through the park or is there parking/access from the dam end? Any assistance on parking and where to fish would be apprecaited. PM me if your locations are well kept secret thanks, Ron

Lake Mercer
I got a 5+lber from Mercer; my biggest until I got a 7 at Lake Anna. I fish from shore and am there at least two days a week. lots of places to fish from shore and while it may not be as good as it was a few years ago, it's a lot better than Burke. I pull a lot of 1 lbers out so there's still hope that some of those will grow to be giants. Don't take any out unless you have to.

Cover For Bass Raider/hunter
Before I moved my Bass Raider into the gargage I kept it on some cement blocks upside down; no need for cover. Try it and see if that works for you. Used long bicycle chain lock in the blocks to keep honest folks honest

2 Questions About Line
You're probably going to get a lot of different answers on this but... if the water is gin clear then brightly colored line might spook fish. Once you get away from clear water then it depends on how deep you fish and how murky the water is and what color you use if it'll spook with fish. Red colors tend to "disappear" sooner than some other colors. You just need to experiment

Nova Bassin' Any Good Pointers?
Welcome; you'll find a lot of NVA fisherpersons on this site who'll probably give you more advice than I can provide but here goes. What works on one lake one day may or may not work on the same lake the next day. You need a variety of lures to try and let the fish tell you what they want. Generally speaking NVA anglers seem to do well with plastic worms (senko or sendo knockoffs from *** work very well for me). Also the time of year or day, and the weather makes a difference on the type of lure the fish will want. You have to experiment and keep good notes on what works and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to try new stuff, somebody's got to the first. There are a lot of small lakes like Royal, and Huntsman that you can and should try. You can rent boats at Burke for something different. Good luck

Bass Pro Shops & Sales Tax?
Many states are broke or almost broke; they are looking for any way to increase revenue. Traffic fines are going up, not to increase safety but to increase revenue. Collecting tax on internet sales is simply another way to get more money in the coffers.

Finally..... Pictures From Mercer
Just got back from Mercer; wind was a witch (with a capital but managed these two. Finally remembered my camera and glad I did. The one with the Manns crankbait is 10-12 inches and maybe a pound; the other you can see from the fold out ruler is around 14 inches.

Fishing women, especially if you are unmarried, avoid Montana if you're planning to fish alone.
It's probably what's called a "Blue Law". Laws that were written in the 1800's or so when society felt women were weak and needed protection. The legislator has just never gotten around to having it repealed. Many communities leave them in place becasue they are "cute" and not enforced.

Peacock Bass Tips?
I've fished for peacocks in Brazil for several years; didn't know they existed in Singapore. They are a warm water fish. Lures: HUGE top waters with saltwater hooks and long jigs are you're best bets (try Slevad jigs). You can do internet searches for peacock bass lures. Good luck

Question For My Fellow Va Anglers
I caught my first fish of 2011 on a soft plastic a few weeks ago. They always seem to produce a few fish.

What are the odds on this???
I was walking to my fishing hole and in a bush about 50-60 feet from the water I found a crankbait; still in good shape. From the water to the bush there were thick woods. Still haven't figured out how that lure got there but glad it did.

Pfleuger President
Agree with hootersdoug; I've had my Presidential for about 2 years now and haven't had any issues with it, including line twists. Not sure if we got lucky and got the line on right but for whatever reason it works great for the price.

First Bass from Huntsman this year

Peacock Bass?
Been back a week from worst trip ever to Brazil. Probably lots of reasons why five experienced peacock angelers caught dinky butterfly fish and the new guy caught the four biggest fish of the week. Water levels were low then day and half of rain, water was high and cool (cool being relative). One fish had a parasite in its throat that makes it difficult for the fish to swallow. I think it was just an overall bad year. Haven't heard anyone with really GREAT news. Oh well you put your money in and you takes your chances.

Peacock Bass?
Anybody hearing about results from trips to Brazil? I'm heading out in a few weeks and was wondering

Huntsman
Well despite muddy water and pretty good winds managed to land 3 today from Huntsman. 2 dinks and 1 about 1 1/2 lbs. Tried the dam end and got nothing, no bites, nada for about an hour. Went down to the Huntsman end of the lake and fished that small cove with all the rocks. Found all three of 'em under overhangs. worm in baby bass color, T-rigged weightless. Good luck all

Line Question
Let's say (for example) that your spinning reel holds 110 yds of 6lb line. If 20 lb braid has an equivalent diameter of 6lb line why wouldn't you put the 20lb braid on your line? Chances of line breakage is reduced to almost nil. I know there's got to be a logical reason why this isn't a good idea but darn if I can up with one. Anyone???
