Suffix braid vs Power Pro
Only reason I was asking is that I have heard a lot of good things about the suffix. I'm throwing 30# power pro now and has been pleased, just curious if you guys think I should step up the lbs. (for a bigger diameter). I use casting reels (mostly curados) 99.999999% of the time.

Suffix braid vs Power Pro
NO,NO don't get me wrong I don't want to stop using it all together I love power pro, I just have heard some good things about Suffix braid and wanted to throw it one one of my reels to see the difference. My only complain is the dig in I get with pp. I might just be my carelessness or style of fishing, and I thought i had heard suffix was a rounder line and didn't have the dig in (maybe I'm wrong). 85-90% of my fishing is jig or worm fishing and I am seriously thinking of going to strickly braid. I really like to fish the same line (mental thing with me :) on all my rigs, and just trying to get all the options. I threw #30 power pro last year on half my set-ups and 12# mono (xl) on the rest and what to make the jump to braid (really feel confident with braid). What would you all suggest for lbs. for jig worm fishing or a great all around # for everything.

Suffix braid vs Power Pro
Just curious what everyones thoughts are one these 2 lines. I threw power pro last year and was thinking about trying some suffix performance braid.

no backing/not filling spool completely
I acually don't fill my reels to the limit. I find I myself and my reel preform better if not filled all the way. It all boils down to personal prefrence. Also instead mono backing for braid I have always used a single wrap of electrical tape.

rowland martin?
I will have to agree with Hawgin. My kids love fishing but everytime they see that commercial they get very excited and what to be out on the water. Just beacause I have 1000's of dollars rapped up in fishing gear and boats dosn't mean that I wouldn't buy one of those for my kids. Also why would you lose respect for someone for just earning a living and promoting a product. I'm not looking to argue or be deffensive I guess I just don't understand why him promoting that product takes away from all his achivements and knowledge. Hey look at it this way Dan Marino is promoting nutri-system.

Jon Boat Mods - Do's and Don'ts
TM is right in MY opnion pt plywood is way overrated, first its the bad cuts of wood and injected with chemicals to NEVER make it rot. I have a Nitro now but I build my first jon and just used nice ab plywood and it is still going strong (my buddy bought it from me). I would suggest trying to find a plywood with as many layers of ply you can find. My local homedepot has 4 ply 1/2" ply that is twice as strong as the typical 3 ply and its around $2 a sheet more. I do belive you can also get a 5 or maybe a 6 ply 1/2 plywood (could be mistaken, but I had a very reliable sorce tell me you could), but you would have to probally have to have them order it for you. Then I would take the addvice and either coat it with a good waterproofer or paint it with a good oilbased paint. I would also suggest using aluminum angle instead of wood if you can swing it. Wood works just fine dont get me wrong but aluminum is very light and lasts forever. Also I love the idea of an antifatige mat below the carpet. Also you will want to use ss screws or rivits with anything in contact with the aluminum. Also another thing I did with my first boat is coat the entire inside of the boat with heculiner (paint-on bedliner). I did add just alitte weight but really helped seal up the boat and seemed to help dead'in a lot of sound. Plus and maybe its all in my head, but it did seam to stiffen the boat up alittle beacause I did remove the rivited in seats. Also the old preasure treated lumber (ACQ) did not eat steel or aluminum near as fast as the new pt lumber (ACQ). Acq (the new and only pt now avaliable) lumber is any metal's nightmare. Only thing that will withstand its abuse is either double dipped hot galvinized or stainless steel. Dave

What bait do you use most often?
I would say dark senko w/ weight.

Minn Kota-Auto Pilot & COPILOT-Questions? HELP
I love mine on my nitro. I was hesitant after what everyone said but I wouldn't go back to cable agian. It might be a little slower but it hasn't been slow enough for me not to make my way through a mine field of timber. Plus the auto pilot is about the best thing since sliced bread. You want to work a shore line just set and fish AWSOME.

Weighted Fat Ikas?
CY, I have fished the ika weighted many times. It does MAYBE work better not weighted but I've had great results also with it weighted. I fish it weighted a lot because I get to restless waiting for the fall (one of my fishing downfalls ).

Do Hydrofoils help?
I don't run gps on my boat so I'm never sure my acuall top end speed. But It didn't feel as I lost any speed. Also I was just wandering if anyone has tried those trim tabs on there boat and if there are any advantages.

Do Hydrofoils help?
I just put one 3 weeks ago on my nitro (115 hp merc) and it help a lot. I was able to get up on plane a lot faster and it allows me to stay on plane at much slower speeds. Plus I don't get near as much nose lift. I got the SE sport SE300.

Your buddy is hammerin fish and your NOT!!!
I should add I also did try mono 12# XL (probally not long enough). I felt more comfortable with the braid because the fish were in the brush pile (all the way in the piles) and I should have given the mono a better chance. Plus It might have been scent to, he was chewing a different brand then me . I also was going to add I've never used p-line before and afer seeing how well and epecially how strong it was for my buddy I'm thinking I may have to give it a try.

Your buddy is hammerin fish and your NOT!!!
I should have been alittle more specific. I tried every thing in my box will he was fishing a black and blue 1/2 oz jig with a black and blue brush hog trailer. Until finally for the last 5 hours I switched to the exact same black and blue jig with a black and blue brush hog trailer. I do agree that it is difficult to fish the EXCACT same as your buddy. I did think about it but didn't give it to much thought. His line was 15# p-line and I was throwing 50# Power Pro. I guess every little thing matters. I did also think about our locations on the boat so after awhile I decided to have him come up and run the controls and I started throwing from the back. I guess it just wasn't my day.

Your buddy is hammerin fish and your NOT!!!
The previous thread about "What goes through your head when your not catching fish" got me thinking. I what goes through your head when your buddy is hammering the fish and your getting nothing. I went out to a local lake today with my buddy and he was tearing them up I got the shaft. He caught around 20+ fish plus 2 5#ers and I caught 1 fish in 10 hours of fishing. I was using the exact same lure and exact same presantation. I was happy for my buddy : but it was very frustrating. Just curious if this ever happens to anyone else. Oh yeah and the only fish I did catch jumped right as I lipped her and buried one of the crank bait hooks all the into my thumb joint past the barb and itwas so far in I couldn't push it all the way through and cut the barb, I had to grit my teeth and pull I backwards against the barb to get it out :'( . That added to the wonderful experiance. My addvice is don't ever bury a hook past the barb into yourself It not very fun to get out .

Help, removing old registration decals???
I used a heat gun to get the bulk of the sticker off, then a buffer set at a very fast speed. Just be careful with the buffer it will get the gelcoat very warm.

PLEASE HELP!! Boat wont plane
Alright I finally got it on the water today. Everything seemed to work just fine. It did take alittle longer than I expected to get up on plane (8-10 sec) but I did have 3 200lb+ guys and a full tank of gas. Once up on plane everything seems to be in working order. I never knew how much effect trim and tilt had on the performance of the boat ( I know that seems very noobish). I still think I'm going to try and find someone that will go out with me just to help me better understand the way a bass boat works and how the trim and tilt effect the way it rides (I know you don't want to trim the motor all the way down or in when going full speed, very scary). Thanks agian for everyones help and good luck this year.

Hand Control VS. Foot Control (trolling motor)
I was just curious what everyone prefered for the trolling motor. I have always had hand controlled on all my jon boats and know have a nitro (much bigger boat) and have foot control and am not sure If I like it. I acually am in the market for a new trolling motor and am having a tough time deciding between Minn Kotas 3X hand control and Motor Guides wireless foot control (transom mount).

PLEASE HELP!! Boat wont plane
I got the boat back today. They said they fixed it but I havn't had a chance to take it out on the water yet. They said all it was, was a spark wire not firing correctly and so the boat was only operating on 2cyl. instead of 4. I only cost me around $90 so thats wasn't to bad (if that is what was wrong). Thanks agian for all your help and wish me luck.

PLEASE HELP!! Boat wont plane
I did get it in to a boat repair shop today and the owner told me it sounded like I was lacking power somewhere (not sure where until the tear into it). He said that 2 cylinders fire until a certain rpm and then all 4 light up and it is very common for this style of motor to have a electrical problem somewhere preventing the other 2 cylinders from firing. He said a 17' nitro with a 115 hp motor should get up and scream with no problems. I'll let you all know more when I find out.
