So...do you do it?

Sweet, I was hoping to hear from people with success. Now the trick is not getting snagged on the city parks nice new fountain, haha.

Quick question.......recently a nice fountain was put in at the pond I frequent. The pond is about 5 acres. Whats your take on them? Are they good spots for bass? I was thinking it would be a good area in the summer time, with the extra oxygen from the fountain. The water is about 15' deep at the fountain, right smack in the middle. Thoughts/experiences with them? Thanks!

Thanks everyone. Hows the fishing in those coves? What do you guys have the most luck with in the August heat? I like topwater and any sort of soft plastic, with Lizards and Tubes being my favorites.

We are planning a weekend trip to the state park 8/3-8/5. What are some good areas to fish? I am mainly interested in smallmouth. LM make up most of the population in my local area so I'm excited to have a good shot at some decent smallmouth. I have a 14' Mad River canoe. Would the canoe be 'safe' on that water? I have only used it in rivers and small ponds in my area. I see you can rent a boat there as well. This is my first time going to this lake so any tips would be appreciated. I will have the wife and little ones with me, so any bluegill/panfish hot spots in a safe area for the kiddo's would be nice to know as well. I like bank fishing if there are good spots for that. Try a tube or rage craw around those rocky banks.

One of my sons friends just about bends over backwards when setting the hook. Every fish is 'about a fifty pounder!" You'd think the reel was going to catch on fire he starts reeling so fast. Haha, he's 7.

You think I would get funny looks wearing a Full Metal Jousting outfit fishing from the bank? Ouch.....

The bluegill around me like the powerbait crappie dough bites. They tear up the small fly poppers too.

I hooked one over the weekend and got him in the eye. I pulled the hook out and his eye was still in place and attached, but clouded over. I threw him back. I did that instead of keeping it to eat, because I've caught a bass before that only had one eye. The other socket was empty. It was creepy.....

I did some fishing over the weekend and caught 5 smaller bass, 4 on a lizard and 1 on a tube. 2 of the bass I caught were males close to a bed, and about 15 feet away I could see a big fat momma bass come up from the depths (in a submerged weedbed) and cruise for a second, then go back. I couldnt get her to hit either lure, or a wacky senko or fluke. The only time she appeared slightly aggresive was when I caught one of the males and put him back in the water. What would you guys do in this situation? Water was about 65 degree's, sunny skies, and visibililty maybe 4ft down.

I'd be lying if I didnt say my gut tells me it's wrong/waste, and only to kill if its going to use (food, etc). But then again faking them out of a meal and jabbing a hook through their jaw doesnt exactly make me a saint either. Just my opinion, you know what they say about those!

Our little girl, 4, went to the bathroom on her own the other day. My wife went in to see what was taking so long, and when she walked in, our daughter hadn't closed the door all the way, and she was standing up to pee. Needless to say it was everywhere. We asked her why she did that and she said it was because she wanted to be like her big brother (he's 6). That story will definitely resurface when she's older.

I've had a chance to use this lure. It walks very easily for me, and looks great. I didnt catch anything with it, as I used it back in January, but I think it has a ton of potential when the conditions are right.

Has anyone ever tried to mount their transducer sideways? I plan on picking up one of the low end units like a PMax, Echo or X4 for this year. Sometimes we float the river, and was wondering how it would work to scan the banks. I don't see how it wouldnt work, but having never used one I don't know.

Just looked like something to toy around with when fishing the banks. I'm set on one of the low end Garmin echo's myself.

Have you guys ever seen or heard anything about this? http://www.fish-finder.org/ It looks kinda like the Hawkeye. The screen resolution is like 90's model sonar. Hmmm, it's on eBay for $39.90.

FINALLY got my first fish of the year. Went out this past Saturday to a small pond. It was in the 50's and sunny, with alittle wind. I caught 2 small bass. Both on an arkie style shakey head, one rigged with a BPS incredible craw and the other with a rage craw. Caught a third swimming the rage craw back but he came unhooked before I got him out of the water.

I haven't landed one yet, only had the chance to go out 2 or 3 times for a few minutes, mainly to mess with some stuff I got for Christmas. The weather has been pretty warm here lately so I'm hoping to get out for a good stretch this weekend.

Thats a good idea about using the drill battery. Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll go toy around with them in the store one day soon. Sounds like no matter which one I get I should be happy.

Not sure if this is the appropriate forum so feel free to move if it's not. Anyways, I'm fishing out of a Mad River 14' canoe this year, and would like a good compact portable sonar to use. I fish mostly small lakes, under 50 acres, ~20 ft max depth, green tinted water with the bottom being mostly weeds and a few rocks (I think). And I also fish a mostly shallow river (Harpeth for anyone in the area) with a mix of rock, sand, weed bottom and lots of timber. I am looking at the following: Lowrance X-4 Garmin Echo 100 or 150 Humminbird Fishin' Buddy 120 Cost does play a factor. The fishin' buddy is hitting my limit, but I am interested in it's side viewing capabilities for the river, since I mostly hit the banks while floating. Also, not too far off from the Humminbird is the new Lowrance Elite 4-DSI. The DSI just plain looks cool to me, however since I fish mostly shallow areas, I am concerned about the range in which it will show the bottom, ie only directly under the boat. I think the plain old X4 for half price would be fine if thats all I'm looking at. But thats why I'm asking you guys, as I've never used one before. Honestly, I don't 'need' one I just like all the gadgets. Thanks!
