Small River Kayak Smallmouth Pointers?
I fish the Elkhorn Creek (one mile short of being a river) that is mostly 2-8fft deep and has a lot of structure as well as a very bug reputation for its smallmouth reputation, I caught 3 yesterday on a green pumpkin/watermelon 5inch senko, fishing them slow on the bottom in a very structure filled area. I usually catch 4 and 5 lb largemouth here, but ended up landing a smallie close to three pounds that was crazy aggressive. Needless to say, I love catching largemouth bass, but there is no comparison as to the feeling you get when you reel in a smallie, even the small ones are a fun fight. My question is, what do I look for...what bait do I fish with, how to work it, and how do I rig it? I don't have a fish finder, and the waters are very calm with almost nO current to drag me downstream. The creek is roughly 25-40 yards wide and no deeper than 7ft deep in this area. Thanks for the help y'all!

It May Only Be By An Ounce, But It Is Still My New Pb!
Wow, I just hooked into a 3lber yesterday on a large creek near my house in my kayak and it pulled me and my anchor 20 feet lol, I lt had been over a year since I had caught a bronzeback in this creek and WOW, this guy was super aggressive and fought like a 6lb largemouth. I would love to catch one as beautiful as the one you landed there, nice job, and congrats!

Tempeture Drop And Rain- What To Do?
Hey there, I just got finished rigging up my tarpon 120 with a trolling motor and a load of other fishing extras, and was planning on fishing this weekend, however it has rained all week and on top of that the te pride has dropped from a consistent drought of 98-100degrees down to an average of 57-64degrees all week long. Before the rain, the large creek where I kayak fish had dropped its level quite a bit and I had caught the largest largemouths during that time that I have ever caught in super clear water on a strike king green pumpkin stick worm with black flakes rigged on a gamakatsu weighted shaft 3/0 hook using 8pm line on a spinning reel. If the rain stops, I will still go out, however, I wonder what types of baits will work well and do I focus on the same spots or should I venture to new locations because of the remitted drop and/or rise in the water level. I fish the Elkhorn Creek in Georgetown KY that is known for it's smallmouth, however, I catch more largemouth than anything and have only caught a few smallmouth of any size. I would love to catch me some smallies but I love to catch largemouth as well. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, and I figured this would e a good topic for those who don't have this knowledge thatsearches through these forums as do I. As always...thanks for the advise and tight lines to you all!

Elkhorn Creek
Anyone ever fish the elkhorn creek for smallmouths? Or even have any advice for a small river/large creek smallmouth fishing. This creek is well known for it's smallmouth population and size, however, I mostly catch largemouth bass, good size too! I love the fight of a small though. I have only caught about 4 or 5 of them but would like to find where the bog ones are and what bait and presentation works best for them. I fish mostly from a kayak. The structure of the water is plentiful with huge Dams/ waterfalls, and a few nice deep spots and a few fallen trees / brush. Not much grass. Occasionally you will encounter a large rock ledge that the water seems to flow underneath. The current is extremely slow where I fish mostly, will they be more toward te rapids? Any words of caution on fishing from a kayak so as not to spook them? Should I fish up stream or down stream for effectiveness? Consider me a novice on everything to do with this subject. Thanks a bunch

Fish Finder For A Shallow River/creek
Hello all, I have a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 Kayak that I use regularly for fishing a nearby creek ("Elkhorn Creek") here in Georgetown Kentucky. It has a wide array of depths, but mostly shallow ranging anywhere from 2-14ft. Not real sure if it is actually worth installing a fish finder on my kayak or not. If I do decide to get one, then I am going to use the Mad Frog sidetable with the transducer arm, but am not sure about a fishfnder. Here are my worries, 1)how well do fishfinders work with shallow water 2) how deep does the water need to be? 3)how far around me does it show fish, or does it only show what is directly below me? I have never used a fish finder before, I have. Lot of friends with bass boats that have them and use them, however, I never go out on a lake, only the Elkhorn. I have been very successful here lately fishing holes that I have found over time, but there are a lot of places that I would like to venture out to in order to find some more honey holes that are less trafficked by mini 2man pontoons or waders. Any info that you could shine my way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Fishing A Large Creek By Dams
The depth ranges from prob. The deepest (maybe 10 ft) right at the falls and rises at about 70degrees into a peninsula that stretches out to about half in front of the dam. I usually go out onto the peninsula and fish longways, casting into the falls and reeling back toward me. Past the peninsula there is a large area of water that seems to be a calmer area, a place to where it looks would be a haven for bass, however, I have cast many lines and different baits toward that direction, and have never caught so much as a bite. When you use the baits you speak of, how do you fish them in the river,? I have never had any luck with tubes and it has been so long since I have used grubs, I have forgotten how to rig them and how to fish them.

Fishing A Large Creek By Dams
Hey all, I fish the Elkhorn Creek in Georgetown KY, by Robinson dam and Great Crossings dam. Both of which are pretty large (70-100 yards across and 5-7 yards tall). Each has its own character and I know the character pretty well if you have any questions about it. My questions are : What type of bait works well in these types of environments? How do you rig them, what kind and size of hooks...etc. Next, I put my kayak in and drift downstream from each of these dams from time to time. I know creek/river fishing is much different than lake/pond fishing, what kind of structure do I look for that bass are more likely to be at? What kind of baits would you use in these instances. I know that there are huge largemouth and smallmouth bass at these locations, my preference would be smallmouth, however, a bass is a bass in my book, smallmouth just generally put up a better fight. Thanks for your advise and tight lines to ya!
