  1. I had a chance to speak with Dean Rojas once, often considered the top frog fisherman. He told me that a topwater frog more closely imitates the action of a sick or dieing baitfish. With that said, if there are frogs in the pond, then the bass are use to feeding on topwater. I would sure give it a try, could quickly become an exciting morning.
  2. Keep in mind that the Citica G and Curado G are a different form factor than the Chronarch, think Curado E.
  3. I own the JWR853NRX, very versitile rod. I like it for contact baits, T-rigged plastics and smaller jigs and trailers up to about a 1/2oz.
  4. You might try to contact Bantam1, if you don't know how to get a hold of him let me know and I can shoot you a PM. He is a product manager for Shimano and is usually on top of any common problems with the Shimano line of products.
  5. Might try putting a little shim of some sort under the reel foot in the reel seat, it's all I can think of. Could probably use something like a business card or playing card, just to check it out.
  6. Try the reels on another rod and see what you get.
  7. Those Revo's are starting to look better and better now. Only thing I can think of would be that for some reason the rod is causing the reel to flex when tightened down, putting it in a bind. Have not heard of this problem before.
  8. Sounds like a great problem to have.
  9. For those who don't know Bo is the inventor and owner of *** Jigs, formerly Perfect Strike, formerly Viper. Good chance to tell him what you think about his product.
  10. Bo it's not cool to pimp another reel repair service when there is a great reel service that pays for advertising on this site. I am sure Kevin would not appreciate it if the shoe was on the other foot.
  11. No offense meant, but the lesson you should have learned was that you need to practice your knot tieing.
  12. The Pflueger Supreme is a great reel, it is very smooth, the weight is good, has good line management and the ergonomics are in my opinion very nice also. I have the Revo Premier Spinning, and to be honest I can't tell much difference.
  13. Dobyns 734 or 735C and a Revo Premier, Gen 2 if you can find one.
  14. I own a few frog rods, the one I am currently using is a Jason Christie signature series Falcon Cara frog rod. It is a 6'11" H/F. I use a gen2 STX 6.4:1 I have it spooled with 60lb. Sunline FX2. This combo meets my needs well.
  15. Great price on a nice reel. Congrats
  16. I was going with the bad pawl because he mentions that it is piling up on both edges of the spool, made me think that the pawl was getting to the end and not making the the turn cleanly to go back the other way. I have seen where a high drag bait will pile line, but typically its to one side or the other. For him I hope you guys are correct.
  17. I have gone the other way, I used to think no leader necessary. I fish in clear sandpits and have started tying a FC leader to all my setups. What can it hurt.
  18. Sounds like you may have a bad pawl, and or level wind shaft. Some of the first componets that will wear out on a reel, cheap and easy fix if this is the case.
  19. You need a mediator, see if there is a coon, skunk or owl that can help.
  20. Take a look at the Pflueger Supreme MG. It is a great reel, light and very smooth, a real quality product for $99.
  21. I love fishing, and I love reading about fishing, but one thing I have learned is that sometimes what the Pro's recommend might not be a good fit for me. Many people can give you the text book answer to your question, and support that with lots of great reasons why it should work, but sometimes it just don't. Use what makes you happy, and is comfortable to you, there are no hardset rules about what rod or reel to use for what. I think you have a great selection of rods and reels, and you should be able to handle most any technique with what you have, use what feels good to you and don't worry about what is suppose to be right or better. Fishing is supppose to be fun, not weighted down with heavy questions and wondering how you will be able to afford that new rod or reel.
  22. I have used many trailers on swim jigs of them I have had the best luck with these, Fat Albert single tailed grubs, Kalins single tail grubs, Tigger X single tail grubs, Zoom paddle tail fluke, and the RI skinny dipper. I have tried lots of trailers but these have consistently produced.
  23. I would use the Vendetta for spinnerbaits, while a good rod for the money the Vendetta tends to lack a litte in sensitivity making it a good choice for reaction type baits. The length of the Vendetta also lends itself to spinnerbaits around cover and docks with the shorter length generally helping with casting accuracy. I have no experience with the Jupiter. The Veritas can handle the duty of plastics and lighter jigs, it is more sensitive than the Vendetta making it a better choice for contact baits and has a little extra length that would help with pitching and flipping if necessary. IMHO a 7ft MH/F rod is the most versatile of all rods, you have 2 of these and should be able to cover most other techniques without a problem. The one area that I don't see covered as well as the others is a good moderate or moderate fast rod for crankbaits.
  24. I can cast any of them 35 yards. I prefer magnetic for Pitching/Flipping and Centrifugal for long casting, if given the choice I will take a reel that has both every time.
  25. Work good on a Biffle Hard Head, or a Jika Rig
