  1. Here is a little more info: Water temp was 51.3. Stained water. Rocky bluff bank along main river channel. Targeting spotted/kentucky bass. Was using Spike-it (chartruse) on the tail (last inch or so) of a watermelon red Zoom Finness worm. 1/4 oz strike king tungsten bullet. Bait broke about a quarter inch behind bend in hook. So basicly half the worm. I dont think they were bedding. Water temp was still a bit cool. Staging perhaps. Also I really appreciate all the responses. Really makes you wonder sometimes whats going on down there =)
  2. It is possible they were smaller fish. The bite was very lethargic in most cases I never felt it and my line never moved. I was fishing a 45 degree rocky bank. I was able to feel my weight contacting the rock. I would lift my rod and It was just heavy, almost like I was pulling it out of mud. I had tried a jig a little earlier in the day but without luck. Thank you for the advice it is definitly something i will think on. My partner was using a magnum finness worm and a 4/0. He hooked up 3 in that same area. I guess the size of the bait and bigger hook made the difference. Thanks!
  3. This past weekend on Lake Jordan Alabama I was having some issues hooking up. I was using a Zoom Finness worm and a 2/0 Gamakasu EWG hook. I caught 3 but I also set the hook and came back with half my worm gone about 10 times. What adjustment would you have made to increase your catch percentage faced with this situation?
  4. I have a ST Croix Mojo Bass MBC70MF that I use for Texas rigged soft plastics. I love it.
  5. My PB came on an ultra-light rig and a 5cm floating rapala.
  6. Heh I might just have to send them to DVT. 5 Curados and 1Citca will be expensive though. =/
  7. Very cool. Is this mix more dense or less dense than lead?
  8. I have searched the forums and have not been able to find the answer. When "Supertuning" a reel it seems pretty standard to polish the inside of the brake drum and the spool shaft where it contacts the bearings and pinion gear. What brand/type of metal polish do you guys recomend? Also can it be used with a Dremel.
  9. I typicly use some sort of popper. A white one works here when mayflies are hatching. I sometimes use a small green one when small frogs are present. I don't fly fish as much as i used too, but those are my favorite.
  10. These types of devices are still used in the aquarium business. I think Milwakee makes a few that are handheld. might look there.
  11. For leader to main line I use an Albright. For terminal tackle I use a palomar 90% of the time. They seem to work well for me. If you are snapping the knot make sure you are wetting your knots before pulling them tight. The heat from pulling unlubricated knots can cause your flouro to weaken somewhat. How are you setting the hook? I reel set mostly on shakey heads. I do lift the rod tip but its a very gentle sweep upward. Works pretty well on light wire hooks in my shaky head jigs.
  12. I would ask this question in the Tacklemaking subforum. Those guys are great and almost allways willing to help.
  13. An armed society is a polite society. And Salt Loads deter trespassing pretty well.
  14. I didn't see this show, but could he have also meant that sometimes the brush piles themselves move? I know i took a bunch of oak limbs and chained and weighted them with cinder blocks. I marked them when i put them out. 3 Weeks later they had been moved somewhat by the current of the creek channel they were in. Making my waypoint wrong. Just a thought.
  15. I second the Gerald Swindle videos. Helped me a ton.
  16. Got to see the show last weekend when it aired. Wow is all I can say. Was amazing to see 2 very funny anglers have a ball on this lake. I've been watching Zona's show since it started, I can count the number of private lakes on one hand. I like the fact that he was completly open about everything. Showed the feeders and gave some insight about how The Kingfisher Society was mananging the lake. Good stuff Mark. Keep it up.
  17. Anyone. I know at least one person lives on this lake. =)
  18. I will be fishing in my first bass club tournament at Lake Martin, AL on January 14th. I am a non boater and will probably be unable to pre-fish. I have never fished lake martin. I am looking for popular winter patterns for this lake. I hear it is clear water, with lots of bluffs. What tends to work well and where? Also anyone know the current pool level and water temp? Thanks, Matt
  19. Black Friday: I bought a few things from dicks. Including a St Croix rod. Came with a free hooded sweatshirt. A lot of plastics and hardbaits were buy one get one free. I also got a 20$ Coupon for use from Nov 28 - dec 24. Cyber Monday: Bought a another St Croix Rod online from dicks. They had a 25% off deal w/ free shipping. I also combined with my previous $20 dollar coupon. Ended up paying around 55$ for a 100$ rod. Also got another free hooded sweatshirt.
  20. Thank you all for the warm welcome. Looking forward to contributing what I can.
  21. Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I have been fishing for most of my life. I have found lately that bass fishing is the greatest relief from the stress of daily life. I am trying to learn as much as possible so that I can enjoy myself even more that I already do. I have been pounding banks for years but have almost zero experience from a boat. I have joined a bass club here locally and will start fishing their monthly tournaments as a non-boater. I am hoping that i can learn from the people in my club and here on these forums to improve my skill level. Thanks for reading, -Matt
