  1. If you pull the side plate off and pull the spool out, sometimes where the spool goes into the drive side of the reel the bronze pinion gear needs a little lube. Put some grease on the spool shafts and put it together and try it. If not, call Shimano.
  2. Bass Pro has a Big Bass reel on sale for under 100. Pro Qualifier, Abu Garcia has one for 100. As for ratio, go with a 6.4:1, good all around. Rods, Berkley Lightning, or even the Shock version if you use braided. I use them, they are good priced for a great rod.
  3. Ok, heres my next project. Im gonna be traveling to Boston this summer for my honeymoon, and got the Ok for fishing with a friend of mine while up there. I also have the Ok for buying a rod and a new reel to use (no you cant have her, I found her first) for this trip. I use 65# Spiderwire for my line, and need a 2 piece rod that will handle this. I was looking through Bass Pro, and some of their rods are 2 piece, but no aluminum oxide coated guides. Dont want to spend a huge chunk for this, maybe $200 + or -. Also, any ideas for a travel bag to put a rod and reel in thats good for an airplane? Anyone ever do any air travel with gear?
  4. 3/0 widegap is a good all around size. I like the Bass Pro thick nickel plated. You get 25 for $7, and if they get dull just toss it and tie another. I have no problems as far as fish coming off the hook, so I wont spend a fortune on hooks.
  5. Very good reel. I bought one during Bass Pros black friday. It came as a combo. As for the reel itself, it is very well rounded. Braking system is very user friendly. I use it for my jigs, and it will cast very far when properly set. Good bang for the buck. Looks good too.
  6. so what your saying is we need to nuke the Everglades? Think of the Python and Gator problems.
  7. I mostly have Zoom Lizards in watermelonseed colors. I was thinking of making a Horney Toad mold to turn them into frogs. The frogs are soo expensive, id like to try and mold some of my own. I was thinking of a plaster mold of one of the frogs, an then using that to pour into. Just want to experiment.
  8. I want to melt my big collection of discarded plastics. Is there anyone who has a home manufacturing process? Not looking for a major manufacuring process, but maybe a backwoods process.
  9. Looks like you have a dilemma on your hands. I will tell you the best way to solve this: You will need to buy setups for each of your type of lure you fish, then you wont have any regrets. If you want to stick to this money issue thing, then I suggest you go with the versitile 6.4:1 ratio and fish your little heart out. 7:1 is gonna be too fast, I use that for my strictly lizard/worm rig. Its good to rip and drop. You need something more versitile though.
  10. At least these are not intentional. This thread is about the carelessness of intentional littering. Yes, I understand you will lose some in water through normal fishing, but its not that many. I still feel bad, but at least I have a clear concious after. I do understant your point though.
  11. Lets see..... One evening while having dinner at the local Brus Room, me and my Fiances uncle were throwing our chicken bones in the water and watching the snakeheads and other fish eat at them. While looking in the water, we noticed some pretty big bass swimming around in there. Now this lake that is in the back has plenty of bank spots to fish, so the next week, early on a Sunday morning I arrived to try and pull some big fish out of there. When I first arrived I decided to start by fishing under the structure of which is a back patio outside area. This area is about 7 feet off the surface of the water, and goes out off the shore about 30 ft. So as Im pitching and casting under this area, Im pulling in some decent size bass, but no big ones. All of a sudden I look and see a shadow thats moving under a floating piece of wood under the structure. I flipped my lizard out and slowly reeled past the piece of wood, and bam! She hit and started to run. Faught her for a bit, and thank god for braided line otherwise she would had broken the line on the cement pilings. The picture shown was taken by the surprised bartender that was opening the outside bar. Needless to saw, after she was making some noise about the fish, the manager came out to check out the fish, along with other employees. What a morning. She ended up weighing just over 8 lbs.
  12. OK, so throwing your old baits into the water is just straight ignorance on your part. I mean come on, really? I have a plastic ziploc bag that I put all my old beatup plastics in, and then I empty them into another 1 gallon freezer bag. There is a guy in my fishing club (and Im sure there is at least 1 in all of them) that collects them from other members and makes baits out of them. Now I think Im gonna experiment with the whole using a lighter to try and mend the broken pieces, but I would also like to try and melt down and make my own baits. Some of you on this topic talk about making your own, so maybe you can give me a hint on what you use to do it. Whats the process to melting them, and what do you use to make a cast for the new baits. I was thinking about making a plaster molding of a bait that I already have, like my lizards, and then creating a mold out of it. I know its sort of copyrighting, but if your not gonna sell them....... Any ideas?
  13. Snow? No thanks, lol. The best thing about FL, we dont have to shovel rain.
  14. I think you need to move to South Florida, because your brain is obviously in shock from the cold weather and lack of fishing. Down here we dont worry about not fishing during the winter time, so we have better things to think about, lol
  15. BPS has some Enigma combos for 69.95. I picked one up, kiler combo!
  16. Yes, very good rod. Also, I use 6'6 rods since I do alot of shore fishing as well. Your not gonna lose any castability, dont worry.
  17. +1 for the Lightning Rods. Just about all my rods are Lightning Shock, since I use braid, and they are amazing!
  18. Since noone mentioned the Curado, I guess I will. Ever since I got my E7, its been true love from the start. I own many BPS reels, AbuGarcias, etc, but hands down my #1 is my Curado. I use it for my plastics and it will cast a country mile with almost no effort. Just got me a G6 Citica, and thats a banger too.
  19. I own a Pro Qualifier on a Berkley Lightning Shock rod. I use 65# Spiderwire, so I need the Shock series. They are a little more, but I think they are a bettr quality. I would get the 6.4:1, due to is versatility, especially if you plan to use different baits with it.
