  1. is anyone interested in some smalltime jon boat and v bottom bass tourneys on raystown lake this year???16 ft and under.. 18 if its a flat botttom jon. small maybe 10 dollar entrance feel half to the winner 30 percent to second and 20 percent to third.. nothing big just for fun..... 4 hour tourny. 3 fish limit. seems like a fun idea would anyone else on the forum be interested.... we could also try a few other central pa lakes such as canoe creek and walker they are big enough for ten or twelve of us to be out at once. possibly black moshannon.. any central pa lake over 100 acres is big enough for a ten to twelve boat jon boat tourney... nothing official just for fun mostly... great way to get some tourney fishing experience without the big expense and sacrifice of flw or bass. i've thought about this the past few years and feel most people around here have small boats so this would be perfect. if interested email me at JriverRiver@yahoo.com
  2. i run my 14ft flatbottom in there all the time... its so narrow wind never makes big wave you just have waves from the boats.. people in central pa just have never saw a big lake and to them raystown seems overwhelming but in reality its very narrow and long so just stay clear of the big cruisers and your fine.... to put it in perspective it is literally 1/3 the size of the smallest lake that holds a professional bass fishing tournament so its not that big
  3. weeds are only a problem if you don't love bass fishing.. used spro frogs or ribbits fished over the weed tops in the week choked areads with a medium heavy baitcaster and some braid and you just might have the most fun you've ever had bass fishing in that lake
  4. a few small bass and some pickeral.. used to be more till it was drained in the early 2000's.
  5. run up the mouth of the river.. well bald eagle creek not river... drag around tubes.. can't help but catch smallies doing this
  6. anything resembling a lizard or a bluegill, at least in pa. untill after spawn then anything goes i suppose
  7. there are a few good spots on the lake.. about 5 that i know of i'm sure there are more though. mostly smallies these days after the lmpv hit. although there are lots of small 4 to 8inch bass in the lake so i think the virus has run its course.. the road is probably the biggest community hole in the lake but its for good reason fish always seem to hang around there.. you can see the road running straight into the lake.... the rip rap right downlake from the bridge is pretty good too. theres a few other spots but they are kinda out in the open so i can't tell you how to get to them over a forum you'd neep a gps location to get to them
  8. thats a huge bass for canoe creek.. lived about 5 miles away for over 2 years and went there 3 or 4 times a week all year except ice over and i've never got over 4 at the place.. caught up to 25 a day or so a few times but thats great for that lake congrats... very few walleye but some trophy's according to some people though.. also lots of pickeral there
  9. if you dont care about size a 4 inch green berkley bower grub on a 1/8th jig seems to be deadly on each of these lakes.. pickeral and bass.. fish them both very often. small 1/4oz spinnerbaits in with/black or some shade of gray and purple work wonders at colyer untill summer comes both lakes are extremely heavy pressured
  10. used to have a decent amount of largemouth.. more than the smallies.. then lmpv hit and there are more smallmouth than largemouth.. seems to be coming back now everyone is catching small 5 to 8 inch bass while crappie fishing so thats a good sign. caught largemouth up to 5lb and smallies up to almost 4 but never any trophy class fish. thats just me though i'm sure locals who fish it more often could speak better of the lake i only go there about five times a year
  11. i know every lake in central pa very well and fish about four times a week. email me at jriverrider@yahoo.com if you want to fish some of the central pa lakes with me. we have everything from shallow basically marsh lakes to deep crystal clear smallie only lakes.. not too many big lakes but a huge variety as far as different types of bass fishing lakes are concerned.
  12. also if you have good sonar there are some good leges near the lower quarter of the lake that have big schools of smallies at certain times of the year.
  13. fish points or near islands in the summer time.. bays with weeds for largemouth.. some good points will give up large and smallmouth .. occasionally a striper if your fishing dd22's or something similar.
  14. nobody caught a snakehead in glendale.. bowfin are very common in this lake i lived near here for a few years and fished it at least once a week usually more.. bowfin are more common here than any lake in pa.. to the untrained eye they look similar.. other than the coloration and greater size you see in snakeheads.
