  1. Walleye fishermen are largely MEAT CATCHERS. So they will clean out any lake in short time. The lakes ARE in long winter areas. Shorter PEAK GROWING time. HEY !! If the locals buying fishing license want ANY 1 fish ? Have the game dept. DO IT !! They ARE PAYING FOR THEM. Walleyes are a slow easy to catch hatchling fish for most every other adult fish.
  2. I can not find those shoot & release bullets. As a side note All my senior perch eaters GLADLY want only to have the small ones. Bless Victor. he told me NEVER to bring him a breeder biggie. Every so often The big perch suck the Rapala beyond a recoverable point in their throat. Even with 1 barbless treble. I remove the hook & put it in a huge boat tank with a constant running pump. After 1 hour. Letr it swim away or a Victor diner.
  3. I have paid college tuition for Rapala executives kids for my entire lifetime.
  4. The same logic I use for when I catch a legal limit for senior on a barely livable income. They thank me every time. Then there is Bruno. He catches every fish he & sells it to restaurants locally. Retired & a dinky boat & motor. Found a floating gas tank. Filled it . Had problems................ Yes I got him runnibg again. He & a group of religious farmers keep everything caught. I know they need the fish. I do not count or measure their fish in the 5 gallon pails. The waters are so polluted that the N Y state says. Eat 1 per month MAXIMUM or NONE. I do not have The backbone to tell them tey are causing cancers in their children.
  5. I would like to catch fish in fished out waters with invasive organisms. Mine are starting ? to make a possible comeback. As the fish are adapting over a decade.

Barbs ARE FOR commercial fishing only !!!!!!!!!!!!! That is why they were invented.
  7. 4 & 6 pound mono are perfect for not needing to remove a ALMOST touchable Smallmouth bass or even a big perch. With the rod almost straight up as you reach down. I have caught & released the same fish for years in front of my summer cottage. They are GENETICALLY PROGRAMED to close their jaws TIGHTLY until they say. by by...…………. At least 20 % are releasing lures & baited lures at 15 feet away. Dull hooks. Mine on old lures. Help the fish escape before touching them.
  8. The flying lure is excellent for docks & boats stopped. About $ 3 less than a top " Look under docks sonar.
  9. Of ownership on the 4 wheeled boats ?
  10. I did a search. WAAAHOOO Yo-Zuri makes the Mag Minnow Floater. I troll for meat. Cast for fun. L I G ?
  11. You guys are terrific !! ? I use only floating lures. & spinners. Rapala & Rebel are my only brands. Do other companies make those weight transfer lures ? Names ? Thanks again.
  12. As a side note I now have a pair of very long S S surgeons forecips to reach into throat & gill hooks. Piece of cake. Removed in 2 seconds every time.
  13. For everyone but the money guys. CRUSH DOWN the barbs...……………….SPORT fisherman do not need the barbs. I have had a large Muskie drive 5 of the 9 points THRU my right palm skin while bank fishing alone with NO TOOLS !! I was about to feel what your fish Might feel as we rip the barbs out each time...………… PANIC set in fast...……..Then I became shocky & sweaty. I put my kneeon her gills & spine & broke her back. I just knelt their lookin down at a 48" beauty I had murdered to stop her from yanking the hooks around in my palm MEAT. Human skin IS LIKE LEATHER when the hooks are on a 12 " surf lure. The barbs ARE HUGE. I made a large loop of the line & started to pull a barb out. IT WOULD NOT COME OUT...……….I panicked to a higher level. A 1/2 mile walk to the car ? Carrying a heavy 48" fish ? up a high railroad stone embankment ? No way. O K Rich. I After using the point as a poking point under the skinas a needle to poke a series of holes in a line under my skin. I got1 barb out. Only 4 more to rip out. As I tore the last barb out. I simply collapsed next to the Muskie. I said I was sorry for killing her. Crush all the barbs down. If the barb breaks off and has a jagged edge on the hook ? use a Dremel tool & a small grinding stone to smooth it flush for easy removal. I have had fly lures hooked into my ear & neck. SIMPLY SLIDE the hook out. Kids hook people easily. NO BARB. Wearing PROTECTIVE EYE GLASSES. The kids have NO FEAR of removing a hook. MACHO kids. Boy or girl. Our reels have so high of a gear ratio that NO fresh water fish should get away. The few that do ? SO WHAT ? Crush the barbs & grind smooth. MACHO fishing people can continue to look forward to the next hook in them. The E R nurses DID NOT understand what a difficult position I was in with the fish. They told me I could have severed some nerves With what I did. I never offered to take them fishing.
  14. Lures with a weight in them to help the lure FLY in the air in a more streamlined position ? Geezer question. I had 2 of them 60 ?? years ago. The weight rolled back & forth to affect cast or reeling in performance. They caught more fish...………...Back then I did not know that noise was good in a moving lure.
  15. Just to add some more conditions. In 1947 I had backlashes galore. almost every cast. With no other experienced people to help me. Strictly bushing bearings. Silk lines. So yes bait casters were always being cut free of tangles. Today I take kids out with many of my old Mitchel 300 Spin reels & they are casting far enough to catch perch from docks or my smaller fish boat. easy is spinning medium is bait casting difficult is fly casting for a beginner starting on their own. I cooked LOTS more thumb bacon when doing long surf casts.
  16. Salt water 3 way swivels. Are great with braid to see the rod twitches or steady deep bends.
  17. I adjust lead weights to the force needed to cast 4# mono & 1.5" Rapalas into beginning white caps. I get a lot of mid day small white caps. Often the wind & current are almost diagonal directions. Back to trolling. Wind & waves are great for many fish munching on anything.
  18. Catt is covered with green scales & telling the truth. I always did better for 2 hours after sundown in the shallows. Great way to eliminate all legal sized bass in a lake / river.
  19. High wind & waves ? Very low hook up rates. Been there a lot. VERY few Small Mouth Bass hook ups.
  20. The older I get. The more I want............... Just 1 more good day. ?
  21. I just got tired of having those green Seahorse motors. Still started every time & ran great. The varnished cork floats were good for a few decades before slowly flooding the engine. Cute in the boonies.
  22. My first reels were Bait. I got used to smelling cooked bacon fumes from my thumbing finger.
  23. I can give the good & not good of 4 # braided & 4# mono when trolling a 1.5" Rapala floater 150' to 200' of line out. Mid day spooky fish. Braid & the fish always set the hook & jiggle the rod tip to signal fish on. Mono is hopeless. The fish MAY MAY cause a tip twitch. But by the time I pick up & pull to set the hook ? Fish off. Small Mouths are great at a fast tip bend . Then most are off in a couple of maximum cranks & yank.
  24. I can now reply about my 1988 Evinrude 28 SPL ( cheap version of a 30 hp ). The 1999 9.9 hp have run 7 months every year. I bought both brand new. Only parts were TONS of spark plugs fouling every week some years............. Champion Technical support told me to go 2 steps hotter in the plugs.................. Bingo NO carboned up & missing any more. I now troll almost all day every safe weather day. Same 2 plugs trolling since start of this summer in N Y. He DID WARN ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!do not go higher than the 2 steps hotter !!!!!!!! Engine damage is a given for close to WOT runs . The 28 SPL loves the L86C plugs so much that idle is increased by the self cleaning burning over 1 month of running. Starting is less than a 1/10 0f a second. L I G ?
  25. Many thank you everyone. ? You have saved me a bunch of money starting up on casting gear at 81. I do lots of trolling with 10# braid & small floating Rapalas weighted down with split shot. My eye sight is failing rapidly. So I am buying some 9 strand braid 6# & 1" Raps for perch. I just can not be a trolling driver catching bigger fish. Too boring. Thanks everyone. ?
