Will they do anything good for us ?

I have caught large smallies only when I find them. Anything will then get a couple. I have switched off of my preferred lures to totally different ones & still caught them consistently. I catch fish that are catch & release ones. The school WILL take off quickly if a couple are hooked . If I catch & release in the same spot ?? 1 fish & they are moving AWAY from my low profile boat. I laugh about their ability to move away from my approaching boat sounds. They DO learn from experience & that is passed on in their Daytime Genes. I have to range out farther in a different boat if I want a bunch of them. I do some odd ball stuff to catch the " caught & released " fish. Very odd. All the above applies ONLY to lures.

Del Val Thank you. At 77 I DO leave the rods laying on the seats of the boat for lunch. Then come back to the boat after a heavy rain storm a week later to check if the pump is working. SUPRISE ! Reel may be soaked & need a complete relube job internally.

Ordered 2 of them For guests to use on perch & small smallies & pike up to about 3'. They seem exceptionally quiet & well balanced to prevent spinning spool shaking. Drags were fully released. I had never seen them in person. Dam they look classy. Do not want to use 5W 20 DETERGENT on them. The detergents might attack parts. Who sells decent light weight oils. The train people use to have a neat tube oil. Straight oil no additives. Not sure about Mineral oil either. Thanks

My 50 + year old FIBRE GLASS fly rod.........It is that old. Impossible to kill or toss off any type of bait due to the extreme full length bend when casting very hard. It bends evenly to the handle. I use it as a spinning rod now for that reason. All new guides.

Fishing & wading in moving water CAN & IS very dangerous. I was almost drowned in a 20' wide creek with a rocky bottom & 7 ? mph current. Fished it dozens of times. Was moving downstream in hip deep water. foot slips & I spin around backwards. Foot catches a rock. I CAN NOT BEND FOWARD TO BREATH. The small current has me bent backwards. I struggle as hard as possible to touch bottom to push up for a gulp of air. No can do. I stop and think what I can do. I am starting to drink water. I shove the rod into the rocks under me. AIR by about 2" of mouth clearance above the surface. Fishing the spring run of shad on the Delaware River. Wading 3 feet from shore & 3' deep. Ken is upriver & behind me as I cast out & down river. I feel odd So I turn around & see a almost submerged 55 gallon drum coming right at me. Would have did a real job on me in 55 F water. After the near pinned down drowning. I now have a skipole STRAPPED to my left wrist all the time & wear a FULL 200 mph flotation vest. They are huge. Maybe I can wake up some of you to the dangers to wading fishing............VERY VERY addictive. That little creek I found out had killed others in the same way, with feet caught in large boulder gaps Another time I walked out on a stepped 300' long ledge that created a long still 300' long pool the full length of it. Loads of Smallies. BIG smallies. Walking a nd catching fish. UNNGGH. I slip & land FLAT on my back on the green slime. I can not breath or move. White clouds in the sky. If I slid into the 3' pool. Stunned ? I did not die again. FRIGGIN LUCK means a lot when fishing alone. I Have had some close ones in 77 years

Only people I report INSTANTLY are a group of usually aliens with 30+ rods set out. Game warden first. State police next. Immigration Control last. Word travels faster than a warning. NEVER NEVER Even look like you are interested in the group. Just call the agencies.

The 300 just arrived. It is a fantastic reel, just cranking it . NO off balance rotations at any speed.........Very impressed with the drag turned down to MINIMUM. Wife noticed a plastic bag with 2 white plastic rings. Anyone know what they are for ? She grabbed the reel as soon as I said it works very well. Birthday gift tomorrow. Really excited about the 500 ul Avocets coming.

New outboards are made with Aluminum that has deliberate tiny air bubbles mixed into the Aluminum. So friggin desparate to be light. That they do Not last more than 100 hours.

I also ordered a Mitchell 300. They were fantastic back in the 1950s. I gave up girls just so I could be with the 300.

I thought I had a record Small Mouth last summer Catching & releasing smallies on the deep drop off side of a island. Crap !! Hooked the ledge. The ledge is moving down & out steadily . 50' 100' on 4 # . Finally bring it close enough. A good 10 # fresh water Drum.

I have seen schools of smallmouths feed on something right on the bottom. Never stopped. Even when I got 20' away. I have NEVER seen larger largemouths school up to feed. They are really very different feeders. Smallies have a much better cooked flavor.

O K guys Some reasonable reels for the kids or another senior to use. They WILL get stepped on. Dropped in the water....Carp do take rods while geezers doze off. What yearly oiling ? Like ones that have spare spools available. 4# for perch..........20 # for bigger stuff...........Any O K braided lines in 4# & 20 #. Cheap stuff. Loved that Cajun red braid in 10#. Really miss it. Thanks Just rechecked for the Cajun red braid lines ............WAAHOO !! it is back !! I need to get out & or surf more often. Geezer excuse for too cold to fish in upstate N Y.
