Centrifugal Brakes
2 brakes/pins & forget it works on all my centrifugal brake(dual brakes too) reels. Only time I've ever had to go above 2 pins is when I start throwing in monsoons.

Your Favorite Rod You Own?
Powell Endurance 723C with MGX-SHS has probably become my favorite casting combo. So light & balanced and it had plenty of muscle to pull out three 4 lbers & a 6 a couple weeks ago while feeling every little thing I drug my jig across. I only have one spinning set-up currently, but I really like it, a Lucky Craft Light Drop Shot with Premier 30, although I have a Patriarch 30 in the mail & will be picking up a L powered St Croix LTW or LE in the not too distant future.

If You Had To Give Up All But 1
Probably my MGX-SHS, although having that high of a gear ratio would suck on moving baits. But for jigs/t-rigs & the like, it works like a charm & I've come to really like it this spring. Second would probably be my Premier or TP1S if I wanted a low speed reel.

Patriarch Or Lew's Tour Pro
I have a 64WLP & TP1SH along with a TP1S in the mail, I honestly don't think you could go wrong with either. Cosmetically I think the Patriarchs are way cooler, since I'm not a big fan of black reels & the Patriarch is shiny, really shiny & purdy. I think the Patriarch feels more solid, so I'd probably go with that if I was planning on doing some heavy cover fishing or tip down moving baits, where the extra weight is less noticeable. If I was going to be primarily using it for baits worked with the tip up, I'd probably go with the TP, where I think the weight difference would be more noticeable.

Rigging A Pickup For Bass Fishing.
For you rods, you might want to see if you can get one of these to hold your rods up off the bed of the truck. http://www.cabelas.c...53Bcat104812380 I use one for my Explorer & it's great for keeping rods running along the ceiling and out of the way. I'd figure you could rig it for the bed of a truck, but if you have one of those super short boxes, it'd be pretty pointless if your rods are longer than your box. Probably work best if you have some sort of cover too.

dumbest thing you've done while fishing
I went to step onto this little ledge next to a pond to fish from & when I stepped onto it, the grass gave way to a foot & a half hole a cow pushed into the mud & I fell through it & then fell into the water. This was like my first trip with my new Premier & it ended up going in with me, but I managed to keep it above the water. This was like the first week in May, so that water wasn't exactly warm either. Good thing to come out of that day was I went to another pond for the first time(many times since then) & caught my personal best. Of course, I consider falling in more bad luck than stupid, since that piece of ground looked solid until I stepped onto it. Although it was lucky that I didn't break my leg/ankle when I twisted & fell in the water when it was stuck in a cow leg sized hole. The stupidest thing I've done that was unquestionably stupid was leaving my Gerber Fishing Tool on the back bumper of my Explorer. I went back over the places I drove with it by the pond the next day, but no luck & I was out $50. Dumb thing I've done many times is cut the main line instead of the tag when trimming my knot. I always hit myself on the head whenever I do that.

What Really Grind Your Gears
Fishing related, brand fanboys that come into comparison threads & trash a reel they've never used & throw out mind blowing hyperbole(except they actually believe it) about their favorite brand reel. Also, people that "handle" reels in store & then commence to review it like they've had it on the water. I've handled reels that didn't feel that great when just playing around with them, but once on the water really shined. To me, it's like sitting in a car & fiddling with the buttons & then talking about how it drives. Non-fishing related, people that turn on their blinker right as they're turning. I'd seriously like to be able to go up to people that do that & window shot them. You obviously know you should use your blinker, yet you don't turn it on until you're turning, so what's the freaking point! People that live on their cell phones. My brother has showed up to hang out before for a couple hours & he spends over half the time walking around the house or yard yacking on the phone or playing with text messages.

Petition To Ban Lead Fishing Tackle Rejected
I'm all for getting rid of lead, if there's a non-toxic alternative that's as effective & affordable as it to take it's place, which there isn't as far as I know. Tungsten is expensive & can't be poured onto hooks without damaging them, which I think is a downfall for steel & brass as well. You'd think in this day & age with all the fancy alloys & compounds they could develop something that has the same characteristics as lead without the toxicity & high costs, but apparently not.

Powell Diesel Rods, Anyone Taking A Chance?
I wouldn't hesitate to give one a try, I've got 2 of the TW Powell rods & a Max & they're great rods for the money. Unfortunately all the rods they have are in lengths, powers, & actions I already have way too many of, so there's nothing that really interests me ATM. It's the way they're marketing them, trying to say you're getting a much higher grade rod for less because it doesn't have a warranty. I'd rather they be upfront with the warranty than hide it in the fine print & tell you "SOL" if your rod breaks.

Abu Garcia Villain Rods
I'll let you know when I get mine that I just ordered. $102 on Amazon from Red's Gear BTW.

spinnerbait setup
My primary spinnerbait/chatterbait rod(3/8-3/4oz baits) this year will be a 6'10" MH Fenwick Elite Tech Spinnerbait rod with a Morrum SX3600C(5.3:1) spooled with 15lb Izorline Platinum. If I'm going lighter I'll probably throw them on one of my M set-ups(Premier on 6'10" M F Smallmouth ETech with 12 Trilene Hi-Test & CU50E on 682 Powell Max with 10 Trilene 100%) & throw heavier baits with my Winch on 7' MH Cabela's XML Spinnerbait rod with 20lb Trilene XL Armour Coat.

Red Hooks?
Like a lot of things related to fishing, it only makes a difference if you think it makes a difference. I bought a lot of red hooks when I first got back into fishing, but have gone back to the standard hooks after watching them chip like crazy & not make any meaningful difference from my perspective.

Pflueger Patriarch
Whether you're talking spinning or casting, I don't think you can go wrong. I have a 64WLP & I really like it for heavier line/lures, it'll be on my Powell Paddletail rod this year with some 17 or 20lb fluorocarbon. But I wouldn't suggest the widespool if you're looking to cast lighter t-rigs, jigs, etc, since I really struggle when I dropped below 3/8oz & I'm assuming the regular size spools will handle lighter lines/lures better. I imagine the XT is really great, since it's pretty close to a Premier with a really sharp look to it. I'd really like to get one at some point, but I missed out on a couple I saw for under $150 & I struggle to pull the trigger on it at around $200, since I can score another Premier for that price.

Aftermarket Add-On's For These Three Reels?
I like putting Reel Grips on my Revos that don't have Eva knobs. They're cheap, look cool, & really help the grip when it's wet out. Only down side is they scar up the knob, leaving rib marks, so once they go on, I leave them on.

Baitcasters For Finnese Techniques
Line size pretty much determines what I'm gonna use. If I'm using 8lb diameter & less(with the exception of braid, which I'll use 8lb diameter/30lb test on casting reels), I'll be using a spinning reel. If I'm using 10 or over(90% of the time I'm betting), I'll most likely be using casting gear. I just use whatever tool I think will work best for what I'm trying to do. If I think I need really light line & lures or finesse applications that I think work better with one, I'll be picking up a spinning set-up, otherwise I'll have a casting set-up in hand.

How Many Of You Use Wake Baits And What's Your Favorite?
I'm gonna expand my wake bait arsenal this year. Last year, the only one I threw was a Koppers Bluegill & I didn't get a whole lot of bites on it, but then I slammed a 4.5-5lber on it & my confidence in it went up drastically. I've picked up a couple Waker Elites & Roumbas to have something other than a 3.75" 1 3/8oz bait to throw this upcoming year & I can't wait to get out there & throw all 3 of them.

Given The Option...
I'd probably go with the PQ. I'm a Revo lover, but I always skip over the SX & go up to the STX(and that was before the STX had the dual brake advantage) & have always wanted to try a PQ, so if I was presented the option, I'd save the extra coin & go for the PQ. Not really interested in the Enigma & I'd rather try a PQ than an Orra.

Bass Pro Spring Classic Flyers, did You Get Yours?
Looks like some of the stuff is posted online now, although not the ad itself. New Carbonlite for $90 with the reel trade in, that'll be enough for me to make the drive to get one. http://www.basspro.c...B_02_04_08-_-na

Bass Pro Shops , Cabelas, Dicks Sporting Goods
Cabela's is my first choice, as I've found great deals in their bargain cave & really like their name brand stuff. BPS is alright for sales & has great selection, but if it's not onsale, it's usually priced on the high side outside of a few of their house branded stuff. Dicks & Gander I'll stop in when I'm around them, which isn't very often. Not too impressed with either, but they're not too bad either. I do really like the fact you can order online from Gander & get free shipping, which is more than I can say for the ridiculous shipping prices from Cabela's & BPS. Scheel's is probably where I go to the most, since it's the only sporting goods store that has any sort of decent selection around me, since Dunham's is worthless for fishing stuff. TW is my favorite for ordering online, along with Amazon, which has either ridiculously high pricing or ridiculously low pricing, no in between. Needless to say, I don't buy high.

New Guy From Ia
Hello, I'm in me early 30s & just got back into bass fishing about 4 years ago after not fishing since my early teens. I don't have a boat & there's not a lot of public waters around me where I'm at, but I know quite a few farmers with some good farm ponds that I spend a lot of my fishing time on. I love burning spinnerbaits & traps in the spring & fall and working mats in the summer while just trying to stay warm in the winter. Been posting on message boards for a long time, although only a couple years lurking & posting on fishing forums & I thought this looked like a good place to read up on & talk fishing.

Mixing Brands?
For reels I like keeping to pretty much one brand, which is Abu for me, due to familiarity with the mechanics of how the reel works & how to adjust it & know they'll all be pretty close to the same. Of course being a Revo fan opens up Pflueger, Lews, & BPS reels which are all really similar to the Abus. For rods, different companies have different actions that I like better for different techniques, so I'm not nearly as brand loyal when it comes to rods.

Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth Rods. They Are Worth A Look.
I recently took advantage of the great deals on Amazon & got a 6'10" M F casting rod for $76 & I'm really happy with it. I've tossed it around the backyard with my MGX-SHS & Premier & it casts beautifully & feels great palmed. Only gripe I have is the grip is really short & my pinky is on the blank when I'm casting, which is a lot different feel than all my other rods. I can't wait for the ice to go away & actually get it out on the water, for which I have small topwaters(1/4-1/2oz) & jerkbaits planned for it. I might get the 6'10" MH MF casting rod for cranks down the line, but I have a cranking rod that'll work for now & there's other things higher priority in the near future.
