I like my 2500fj. Great reel! 2500 is big enough for fresh water. Mine has 15ld braid w/8ld flor/c leader.

I think it was run lean. I have rebuilt and built performance automotive engine also a few 2 stroke dirt bike and 4 wheeler engine too. I will tear this one down and inspect it. I have a friend who owns a machine shop with a good Sunnen hone. Will see if 0.005 will clear it up. BKeith, any help would be greatful! pm me your #. Are you close enough to look at the parts?

Here is a pic of the cylinder. They are some grooves and metal transfer. It needs boring and pistons.

Thanks for all your help. The guy gave me a parts list. It only had rod and wrist pin bearings. I added the rest myself do to my automotive background. Guess I should tear it down to see what I really need.

Sounds like the floats in the carbs are stuck and your not getting the correct amount of fuel at full throttle. since choking it will add more fuel and it runs better. Check the fuel filter, do a compression check. If all good rebuild the carbs. my 0.02!

It's a 95 Johnson 40. Was told the VRO pump had to come off and a regular diaphram pump had to be installed. I looked up the parts on marineengines.com .030 Wiseco pistons with rings and pins rod bearings wristpin bearings front crank bearing and seals middle crank bearings rear crank bearings and seals gasket kit Machine work total of 600.00 for powerpack and no labor added Carb kits primer block,valve and gasket (Mine leaks when choked) Fuel pump Roller and sleeve's total for fuel system 210.00 Water pump kit 58.00 (probably don't need it. better be safe than sorry) so 900.00 with shipping for just parts. guy said 600.00 labor 1500.00 total +/- All parts are OMC but pistons. I could rebuild it myself with no doubt. My problem would be setting all the linkages and setting the timing, adjusting the carbs correctly.

That price includes removing the oil injection system and putting a regular fuel pump on. Also new waterpump and carb rebuild.

Been having a idling problem with my engine (Johnson 40). Took it today and had it checked out. The top cylinder has low compression and a scoured cylinder. Going to be 1500 - 2k to build it. Should've had a compression check before I bought It.

This is a must!! I just bought a used boat. Heard it run on muff's. Took it to the lake and it would not idle. Well it turns out I have low compression on one cylinder! Compression Test is a must! If it has a automatic oiler and cards. Remove the oiler and mix oil and gas!

Actually my girlfriend seen it on the way home one night. She took me back the next day and bought it.

Mine does have T/T. I think it is rated for a 60. My plans was to use the 40 till it quits. Then a 60! My 40 has a auto oiling system. I have heard bad things about them. Anything I should look out for?

That's the kicker! The budget! I want to add on a little at a time. Probably would buy console first then add bow later. I say 2k over a year or so.

Thanks! Mine is a Mv Maverick it's 16.8'. Think I got it to 25 mph. It was a smooth ride. Its got a 15 pitch aluminum prop. It needs a good card cleaning and fresh gas. It wouldn't idle long and hard to restart. Was wondering if a jackplate would help any. I planning on keeping it for a while too!

I am looking for a bow and console setup. Haven't decided on DI or SI. Do want Gps. I have looked at lowrance and Hummingbird. Really can't decide on what size I want. Will be doing mostly bass fishing. Suggestions Welcome.

Thanks! Probably won't upgrade boat for a while. Big bassboats are to high. This will do what I want it to do. May a different motor in a few years. I took the Alabama boaters test when they first made it a law. I have operated plenty of boats in the past. Just never owned one.

The owner had it rewired last year. He said the rats had chewed some of the wires. So he had all of it redone.
